The trouble with "exotic" chemicals is that it's really hard to know what you're getting, as mentioned earlier in this thread. I am of the mind that in order to be 100% certain that you are getting what you want, you have to either (a) know an illicit chemist, ( be a legitimate researcher, or © make it yourself. Of course, I'm not advocating anything illegal, but if you want to experiment with hard-to-find chemicals like DMT or DiPT, or whatever (read TiHKAL and PiHKAL for a more comprehensive list...), you should start learning organic chemistry and start collecting extraction equipment, hotplates, condensers, flasks, and the like. You should also learn something about safe lab procedure. Never go into anything until you know absolutely everything you can beforehand. This helps ensure high survival rates... When it comes to something as potentially dangerous as ingesting chemicals, I think it's best to learn everything you can about the substance, and then make it yourself, using the synthesi of Shulgin or another of the founding fathers of the illicit chemistry movement. My basic rule of thumb is: never trust a dealer. If you want guaranteed quality, you have to provide it for yourself. Just do your homework first and know what you're doing. Of course, if it's illegal, then it'a all just a big brain puzzle, anyway, isn't it?

Mojo: I'd be interested in a copy of this, as well... I'll send you an email.

I have a question for you... what is 14.B? I've never heard of it before.

you know, DXM is still legal in the US (as far as I know, at least). It's present in most Robitussin-type cough syrups. I would imagine that it's not terribly hard to extract... I have a friend who offers to extract some for me all the time (aren't chem folks great?). If you have any DXM powder lying around going to waste, you could send it my way, and I could re-route it for you... just a thought, since it's legal here.

I've heard that cloves are good for toothache, as well. Supposedly you can just put a clove on the tooth and leave it there for a while and it will do its magic! Never tried it myself. gomaos: I'm glad you mentioned using henbane here. I have similar toothaches, now I'll have something to fight them with. Thanks!

I actually had the luck to accidentally find an Absinthe bar in Heidelberg when I visited there last summer... I had been hunting for a bottle to take back to the States with me, when all of a sudden I looked up and there was this biker-looking bar with a sign out front that said "Absinth." Good luck, huh? Anyway, they wouldn't let me buy a bottle (I asked) but I did sample the wares. I actually drank two Absinthe drinks sitting there, as my girlfriend didn't like the taste. I, on the other hand, think that anise-flavored liqueur tastes fantastic! About 20 minutes after drinking them, we left and went to walk by the river. Everything felt very dreamlike, my sense of time and space (to a lesser degree) was distorted, and the air felt like there was silent music playing. My pupils got very small, and everything had a greenish sheen to it. I remember watching a wedding procession going by and thinking how strange they all looked... I would say that it definitely worked, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thelema: so most 19C absinthe would have been made using the bark? interesting... glad you mentioned that (otherwise I might just waste my time trying to do it with a bunch of leaves...) [ 23. I haven't had any trouble buying ps seeds from herb seed catalogs. Usually they run between 2 and 5 dollars (US) for a packet of seeds... I haven't tried to grow any yet, but I have a plot of ground in a friend's yard that is soon to be as pretty as anything opiate-ridden can be :D

I recently came into several grams of Desmanthus illinoensis seeds, so if anyone is interested... let me know.

I've always wanted to travel to some exotic location (the Amazon springs to mind...) for a "vacation" and while there, find a shaman willing to teach me and possibly go on a Journey. I guess that sounds pretty vague, but I don't know how else to put it right now. I guess what I'm fishing for here is ideas how to make such an experience happen. If anyone has any experience or ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it. (We all have to have our dreams, right? )

I've got a tray with a fair number of very young Heimia 'sproutlings' coming up in my kitchen windowsill. I'm looking forward to raising these young'uns to harvest size so I too can add my two cents about Heimia's effects. BTW, here's a question that's been eating at me for a while: how is Sinicuichi pronounced? I can't seem to find a pronunciation key for it anywhere...

Fear and Loathing should be an inspiration to us all... it certainly is for me.

how did you know? Stop reading my mind! TOOL is by far one of the best bands I've ever heard, but it never would have happened if not for the inspiration Nirvana provided the rock scene. (so there)
