  1. I've got a couple of scions on an Opuntia species I found growing wild in Royal National Park which are doing nicely. No idea of the species. Also, picked up another species off the side on the road yesterday I'll give a try when I'm back from NZ. Much larger pads than the other species I've got. Recently acquired some Cylindropuntia subulata monstrose I'm keen to give a try too. How's the C. imbricata Harry?

imbricata rejects the scion when the plant goes dormant due to end of season, lack of water etc. Scions take easily enough though. Pupped like a biatch as I remember so it was a high maintenance stock. Used to get a scalpel and cut out all the areoles but then it used to pup from under ground lol. Had no success with micrografts at all.

    Extremely hard to exterminate

  2. What opuntia sp were you looking at using ic? I've tried velvety try pear and cylindropuntia imbricata.

The tree pear does NOT like humidity at all and both seemed to calus off the union as soon as they got stressed and went dormant for whatever reason, lack of water, temperature...

  3. i wonder if the use of a fungicide and/or a non-organic planting medium would help with the die-back of the base of the cutting,?

I was actually going to try a straight fine perlite medium for my next attempt, topped with sharp sand to try and keep the gnats out. :) I have a couple of other cuttings done like this that were having the calus chewed away by gnats, see what happens in a couple of weeks.

I remember reading in a thread here that obtusi showed sensitivity to copper. So copperoxychloride would be a no go. Shame as it was prolly best suited to the task.

    Thread is HERE.

  4. I have seen some for sale on ebay listed as pach x scop "super pedro". Interested to know it the seller actually grew them from pach x scop seed and is calling it super pedro or if it is actually the clone commonly known by many here as super pedro.

I was just about to start a new thread on that very subject but thought I'd better go and see if there is an existing "Ebay" thread of some sort. Anyway the pic in this listing looks nothing like the super pedro I have in my collection. My cactus was aquired from a member on this forum so I'm fairly sure it is super pedro.

Whats the history of super pedro anyway?

    Sorry for the hijack

  5. Wow 8g/L! Strong stuff :) Re the acetone see post 31 & 33 of this thread trip

:) comes down to material and time of year I think. To many contributing factors with my attempt to narrow the field any, especially the fungus gnats and the heated benches breaking down.

Three node semi-hard cuttings seemed to hold on the best under the conditions I have my cuttings.

Will give this another crack :)

  6. Just took pics this morn to post :)

Out of all the cuttings I took only 1 has thrown roots and another 7 are calusing. Heated benches stopped working about a week in and fungus gnats have taken hold so I lost a few to them. Might have had a bit to much acetone in the hormone gel as all the dipped ends have died back about 3mm and those that have a calused have done so above the dead bit.

    Pics!

Image uploading has changed? Have to do for now

  7. PH, do you know if anyone has bioassayed the nexus hybrid yet?

Yeah Rahli added some info to the thread PH refered to here. No source was listed for the information but I think the heading was supposed to be a link that didn't turn out right. I shall make a post querying this in the thread.

0.77% active content from dry material. Not to bad I reckon.

This debate on viridis or Nexus is a bit silly. Southerners are going to find Nexus very attractive. If you have the climate for viridis the go with it if not then try Nexus

  8. The jehovas witnesses are good people, they may be annoying with their "door to door" ministry, but in general they are honest and non-confrontational people. What, who and how one perceives "GOD" is different for each and every person, this is what makes belief in GOD a very personal thing.

Remember that the BIBLE is a collection of writings written over many many years. Its also a translation which means some meaning may be skewed inadvertantly. There are also many different attempts at translation which adds to the confusion and inconsistancies.

I have no problem with people that profess to be religious. BUT, I really dislike people that say they are religious, read the bible, go to their church and yet obviously by their actions, don't take in anything they read or hear, or apply any of the principles in their life. They are the people that give religion a bad name.

Thats all I have to say. I hate religious debates, they go nowhere accept round and round in circles.
