I think Apoth was talking about the puplish Datura I found not the ones in the pic. There are a couple of differences between plain old Stramonium and stramonium var tatula according to the keys at Erowid. Tatula has a slight purplish tinge to the stems and violet coloured flowers. The ones in the pic are plain old stramonium

Ok after checking the keys at Erowid it seems the purplish Datura growing wild near me is Datura Stramonium var bernhardii. The purpling is way to pronounced to be tatula, yet the flowers don't have the violet tinge but rather a mottled purple throat on the inside and outside and other wise white. I'll try and get some pics this arvo.

I'll have to have a look see when I get some time. The teks i've seen on the subject all have extended extraction phases so its fairly safe to assume its required. Thanx for the link.

HSP, Its uncommon for me to eat any amount of cactus. From memory I can recall several texts implying 15cm is a dosage for pach. Though I suppose 1 panadol tablet is considdered a dosage as well, usually have to have more than 1 though. Same principal. Like the majority of ethno's everyones tolerance to them differs I guess. Not much up on the cactus strains, potency etc. With time I guess my widom shall increase hehe. My last post was just expressing my shock at the large amount of cactus. I'm used to seeing the standardised recommended dosages not one recommended by a veteran cactus juice lover such as your friend. Thanks for pointing out the differences with pach. Up till now I thought a pach was a pach. Care to share a length of the "real deal" pach? Would very much like to grow some for my collection etc etc

Thats definatly not Subb. There is no band on the cap. I've seen pics of mottled Subb's but there is no mottling either.

Damn! 2 to 4 feet of cactus. Thats an awefull lot of cactus considering 15cm of pach is considered a dosage. I know each cactus is different... but damn! 2 to 4 feet!

Gardener with the tek you just posted, how long is one supposed to lightly boil in the extraction phase? I didn't see a time mentioned. Same time frame as in Sphinx's write up?

Well AFAIK a flush like you say refers to batches of fruits produced after the rehydration of the substrate. Therfore logically a flush has to be initiated by the "Flushing" of the cakes/case with water, which is where I believe the term "flush" originated. A fruit flush being the product of a case flushing. Yeah you are correct in your connecting drainage holes with drainage, very clever of you chilli . Cakes are submersed in water for 12 hours or so, I assume the process would be the same with casings. Problem with casings is there encased so excess water cannot escape, hence the need for drainage holes. Do you know of a better way to fully re-hydrate a casing? Sterility could of course be a problem for out door teks but me, I'm only concerned with CE fruiting conditions so contam isn't really an issue. Logically, because mushrooms primarily consist of water, primarily the shrinkage of the case would be from fruit growth, the flush not the flushing which does the exact opposite and is the trigger for the next cycle. Thats the way I see it any way.

Blending would expose more flesh and make the extraction quicker I suppose. Less boiling might mean more alkaloids as well. Be a bastard to filter though Excluding mesc, how heat stable are the other alkaloids, does anyone know?

Hmmm... Everything I have read says that CO2 is bad and causes a reduction in fruiting. Should the casing containers have drainage holes in the base for flushing purposes? I don't know why your casing will swell. All the ones I've seen had actually shrunk. Might swell at flushing but surely not beyond the original volume.

Heya Sphinx Havern't tried casing as yet but I can help you out on a couple of points from what I've read. The casing container should be of an opaque material other wise you will get pinning at the sides of the case. You could also opacify a clear container to acheive the same thing by taping the outside of the container with clothtape or something similar. The peat/verm should be sterilized and idealy Ph adjusted, although from what other members have told me the Ph adjustment is not absolutly necessary. It is best to if possible to have the casing as flush with the top of the container as able. CO2 tends to be trapped if the casing is sunk as CO2 is heavier than air and this reduces yield. Having it flush allows the CO2 to flow to a lower point away from the casings surface. I don't know about overflowing though, flush is as full as I'd go personally. Over filling the case would cause pieces to fall out and increase contam risk I would imagine.

Yeppers Stramonium. Interesting how the stems are green. I found a patch of these a couple of months ago. There were 2 clumps growing near each other and one lot had green stems and pure white flowers like the ones pictured, the next clump had the purplish stems and had flowers with a purplish throat. They would have to be the same variety growing so close together, but what causes the difference in colour? The clumps weren't more than 4 meters apart.

Lucky bastard !! Always wanted to go barra fishing. Did some reef fishing off Darwin once, best salt water fishing I have ever done! Prefer lure fishing though. Nothing like strolling up a river/creek taking in the sites Relaxation! Maybe we should organise the next camping trip at teo's hehe

I don't actually think that this is the compound that does the work. I would think that the active ingredient is in the form of a dimethylate salt. For example Glyphosphate weed killers are usually in the form of an isopropylamine salt. Your source has probably mis read the label. Ask what brand name and the product name he/she uses so you can identify the active(s).

Yeah weird stuff hey, its from a doco on the borneo rainforest, was on TV a couple of weeks ago. Had some interesting footage of a pitcher plant as well, there is like an eco system in each pitcher. Fascinating !

So if you have no glue how are you secureing the frame together? Screwing it together? Prolly not as firm but at least you can de-construct it i guess. What the plan for a covering? Had the PVC frame idea for a while but couldn't decide on an easy way of covering it. How are you going to go about it?

Yeah metho would be the weapon of choice. That is if your GF doesn't crack a spack at ya for the smell. Dosen't bother me but aparently she finds it unbearibley offensive. Wouldn't of thought that iso would be any better, no complaints though. Strange and mystical creatures those femme.
