good question.
In my opinion "legal" means "totally free' but you have a point re nicotiana....
Ideally "legal" would mean, you could grow as many plants as you want and won't be punished for it....
re nicotiana: anybody who wants to grow it still grows it nobody really cares what the big cigarette concerns say...
haven't heard of a case where someone who grows a tobacco plant has been prosecuted yet.
on the other hand, those people who sell poisonous by-products of tobacco (chop-chop) should not be allowed to do so, because those things are very harmful.

the present anti-drug-laws hurt a lot of people, women, men, children, their pets and plants.
Like jews in Nazi-germany, innocent people are busted and punished/incarcerated for harmless things such as growing and using cannabis.
The war on drugs is very expensive and all this money is wasted to fight peaceful citizens whose only crime it is to like cannabis.
this is totally wrong and no doubt one day will be rectified.
That day should come as soon as possible. so here's the poll

it's all a matter of willpower really.
I.e. if someone decides to give up an addiction, i. e. alcoholism, or junk, and he's really got the will to do it, and perhaps has some little helpers somehow, then one will give up.
On the other hand, if that decision is forced on someone,. i.e. someone gets busted and has to wait a long time for the trial, sometimes years, then if that someone has enough willpower, he'll stay clean of whatever substances in question, so that his tests will show negative, which helps with his trial.
After the trial, however the outcome, the person in question will not necessarily become a born-again fuckwit, but most likely return to his old habits, saying, "
thank ... that's over and done with..."
as in foaf's case, he tricked himself into taking up alcohol again.
Nevertheless he stopped for almost a month, clean of alc and codeine...
Then a few days ago, foaf tried some cactusextract which someone gave him, not knowing how strong it was.
A small remark re cactus extracts: They can be extremely different.
i think there's a huge difference, whether bridgesii, or say, pachanoi and peruvianus are used. The pach/peruv trip most likely wiull be smooth and euphoric, compatible to "e" but way better and cleaner.
Bridgesii extract however, especially if strong, can easily be like an overpowering acid trip.
So that's what happened a few days ago, the cactus trip was too strong and foaf had no valium or other benzoes in the house, since the only reason he ever needs those are bad trips and they only happen once a year or less.
however this was one of them. The trip came on way to fast and seemed to peak endlessly.. Much too strong for foaf's taste and he yearned for benzoes but didn't have any.
then he remembered a simpsons epidsode, the one where Homer accidentally mixes peyote into fruitjuice and sends the whole town of springfield trippin.
In the case of Barney, the alcoholic, he drinks his juice and a horrible mescaline monster appears and frightens him. But he says, "no worries," drinks a can of piss, and through the door comes Pinky, the alcohol elephant, and tramples the mescaline monster to death.
Foaf then biked it to the bottleshop and bought a bottle of good scotch (name forgotten sorry)
And it totally worked. The tenseness, stressed-outness from the overpowering trip faded and gave way to alc drunkenness. he slept well that night, but was very touchy, aggro, and easily upset by the smallest thing the next day.
Foaf had been trying to get onto cannabis for a few weeks then, whatever contact he tried the answer was thew same: "haven't got any, have been busted etc..."
The government must be spending huge amounts on the war on drugs, which is really war on people and personal freedom. The result - in the state where foaf lives- is a horrible cannabis drought.
So yesterday, he got pissed off with the whole thing, and bought some booze, because that's what the government wants.
Somebody said recently: "The reason the government tries to make even 60 year olds work, is because they have to pay all those pensions to babyboomers..."
total crap
if the governemnt stopped the war on drugs they'd have tons of money.
But why do they make war on drugs? Only because of those idiots Bush and Howard and their suckers.
There's no logical reason for the war on drugs.

All the script changes in it were made by Douglas Adams himself, so none of the zealots could complain (ah finally).

I thought i might shed some light on this:
Douglas Adams had been writing the script to the movie before his death and died before the movie got started. Other people finished it for him. Have been researching Adams quite extensively the last few months. I never liked the tv series when it was new.
The reason may have been that I lived in the bush and had very bad tv reception, and only ever saw snippets of it at other people's places.
When I finally saw the new movie in 2006, it clicked and I really loved it.
Have since "read" (listened really to audiobooks) all 5 books of the "hitchhiker" trilogy,plus a couple more like "dirk gently" and "starship Titanic" (don't really like the latter, must be because it wasn't read by Adams himself...)
I also got the "starship titanic" game but have hardly ever played it...
I mentioned it somewhere else already but might do so again:
It's great to listen to Adams reading his own books. Since english isn't my native tongue, it's soo much easier just to listen instead of reading. It's also cool not to have to strain your eyes, but just to lie down in a dark room and listen. Imagination works so much better with eyes closed.
Well I hope they make another movie, like "the restaurant at the end of the universe" and after that "life the universe and everything"...
can't wait...

definitely not for the faint hearted, it shows how police really are: They are just protecting and carrying out the will of those in power, and don't give a shit about little people, even if they are getting tortured by some of those pervert capitalist assholes.

They keep busting and busting and busting people, until there's not a single ounce of herb left for people who need it. Even by now it must be clear to even the dumbest rightwing politician that ganja is harmless to people, since so many "users" get old, older than people who are alcoholics and die of a heart attack at around 40 (see Adams himself).
Drug prohibition is based on nothing else but the evil will of those in power, who simply "don't like people to have the drugs they need". Fuck those lawmakers to hell!
btw 1 reason I found this in a search is I was looking for my thread "the hitchhikers guide to addiction etc..." it seems to have totally disappeared?

using your alcohol first to wash the raw opium off some poppy seeds normally gets rid of hangover before it even starts.
warning: don't do this too often , or alcohol without poppywash won't taste good and/or work well anymore, and you'll loose the taste for alcohol.
