  1. A. muscaria aren't restricted solely to pine trees

Yep, oaks are the only place I've ever seen flies.

possibly an oak but it's deciduous yeah at this time of year, and this tree still had all it's leaves dark green

There are still a lot of oaks around here with some green leaves, but they will drop soon.

  2. I'm of the opinion that rain is not necessary for sub fruiting ..if the temps get cold enough and there is enough dew and frost it seems that is all that is required for fruiting

I think you might be onto something. Still yet to find subs (always waiting for rain which is a rare occurance in these parts), but there is certainly plenty of random mushrooms popping up anywhere and everywhere. Seen a couple small flies, but nothing else active-wise. I'll have to get hunting in case cool temps are in fact a key player in sub fruiting.

  3. Awesome work Gillie! I've been wanting to try my hand at these fellas for a while now. On a rating scale of 1 to 10 can you assess how much work these require (1 being bugger-all, 10 being excruciatingly difficult)? I would think somewhere between 4 and 7. Just outta curiosity :)

All of Stamet's books indicate that they are very easy to grow and will take a fair bit of neglect. Definately pricks up ears when they see how easy something can be and what a sight it is to see the first crop!

  4. Spectacular find! I'd say subaeruginosa without too much doubt (it helps having such a great photo), but I've never found them myself, so couldn't say with certainty (or as much as is possible via the net).

never heard of them in the rainforest, could they be cubes?

Subs are naturally found in woody debris - a rainforest is a pretty ideal place for them (being so chockers with leaves, sticks, logs, etc), however they seem to prefer more urban landscapes (with a fondness for chipped garden beds), popping up during the colder months of the year.

Cubensis are usually found in sub/tropical grazing fields and grow from well manured soil (more commonly, straight from manure), popping up during the warmer months of the year.

  5. Haha, thanks WT  It should be that easy but my best man is about as useful as tits on a bull and as organised as... well... something completely lacking in organisational ability  So it looks like my fiance is trying to put something together for me, but I'd prefer to get some ideas so the best man might get his act together (or forever be shunned as far as organising mass-spankings go). That's not to say my fiance isn't up for shenanigans - she's already been chasing up strippers (god bless her kinky streak!) - but it'd be great to not see her stressing about that as well as this wedding thing :)

BRING ON THE CRAZY IDEAS!!

  6. Hypothetically, depending on if it were fresh and sterile conditions were used at all times. Sterility would probably be the key issue - who knows who packed it and what the environment was like. Still, no harm in giving it a crack :)

  7. Hi guys,

Looking for wild, devious suggestions for an insane bucks night  What would you do if you had one night to let you hair down? Hit the town with a couple rowdy mates, have a quite one with a few beers and poker, have a stripper dominatrix spank the living hell outta you, or something completely outside the square?

All working within a realistic budget of course (less than $200 per person - roughly 20 people). Cheaper the better of course, as less people are likely to bail due to monetary constraints.

    Cheers,

    The Buck

  8. Awesome work guys. Very glad to see this huge specimen make it to the Corroboree! Would love a cutting in the future, should anyone have a mid section or a small pup available.

Big ups to all that chipped in for it and esp those who managed to get the old girl in the back of a trailer!

  9. Teotz, I was mostly pointing out how arrogant and hypocritical your post was. I was going to leave it at the first line of my response (mostly to vent), but that wouldnt have indicated why nothing gets done to avoid this. The american people 'stand for' a whole heap of unjust laws, just like every country on earth. In fact, americans take a lot more rubbish (law-wise) than many other countries, so that, combined with your constant whispering of 'revolution' with no one hearing, shows nothing but hypocracy.

Yep, you're right, there are illegal books here according to a law that no one I've ever spoken to has known, until I learned via this forum (which I appreciate - Torsten's knowledge of these things is invaluable). But if you really want to talk f-cked laws, lets analyse US jail populations, US gun laws and US drug laws eh? Whats a petty, rarely enforced book law in comparison to any of those? And that's not even touching base on socially f-cked things like blatant racism (KKK for eg), patriotism, religion, war involvement and a whole host of others.

Anyway, I've steered this far enough off course so I dont plan on continuing this bitchfest. My apologies to the OP - this doesnt belong in the bitches section, it should remain in Legal Matters for the future benefit of others learning of this law.

  10. You Aussies make me sick... why have you not stormed the capital and burned down whatever fucking building y'all use for government???

    This is unacceptable!

    REVOLUTION!!!

And when will you be doing that in the US hey Teotz? Dont throw stones in glass houses...

Fact of the matter is that, should I feel inclined, I could walk 10 mins down town and purchase TIHKAL, PIHKAL, half a dozen pot cultivation books and whatever else is in stock, and that is all COMPLETELY over the counter. There may be a law prohibiting it, but there certainly isnt anything stopping people here atm. Why I would want to form a protest about something that has no effect right now and effectively bring my name into the spotlight supporting something so taboo?

Edit: Why haven't we burned down government buildings here? Umm, perhaps because that would land us in gaol for some ridiculous amount of time, it would endanger and possibly destroy the lives of other people who are effectively doing their job and it would have ABSOLUTELY no effect whatsoever in regard to changing unjust laws. There are ways to go about changing laws like this, terrorism is not one of them.

  11. FECK! Sorry guys, I had it in my head that it was still coming up but I seem to have missed it all together! Did anyone end up having a meet?

That's it - all this cold and wet is promising :) Just gotta find me a few well timed hunts now. Still yet to find the elusive sub. Any confirmed canberra finds yet?

  12. any feedback on the VapoRite

Not bad in a friend's experience. That said, they've not tried the better vapes on the market such as the Volcano.

One downside they've mentioned is the thermostat isn't accurate leaving the user with burnt tobacco. Although that could very well be that they are inexperienced with the unit (particularly the rate at which to suck air thru) and this is easily overcome by setting it at a lower temp. Also, their unit is measured in farenheit, not centigrade, but as long as you know roughly where you want it (around 350-400F apparently), it's not a prob. Also, they mention that loading tobacco into it can be fiddly due to the downward facing chamber, often spilling a little tobacco when connecting the mouthpiece. They recommend that you moisten the baccy with a little water (just till it holds together like a thin wad) and push it against the screen with a flat tipped pen.

There's a few threads on it in the SE :) For the low price ($118), my friend definately recommends it.
