    grafts that pup

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Pink or red peyote can't be a good thing...too much sun man! Give 'em some shade cloth, I think about 50% is good, but would depend on how strong the sun is where you are.

    grafts that pup

Are you talking about different grafts from the same original Peyote? Because if they are from different peyotes, well it could be the case that the one which spings pups from every areole is a Williamsii v. caespitosa, and the one which doesn't is just a regular williamsii. Other than that, I would say it has to do with hormone levels in the root stock. Some hormones produced in plants are to do with branching (or in cacti, pupping), whereas others induce vegetative growth and inhibit branching. The hormones which inhibit branching are produced in the apical meristem (the growing tip of the plant, in your case the top of the cactus) which is why when you chop the top off a cactus, it grows branches off the sides. So maybe if you cut one graft stock lower than the other, or longer ago, then there would be more of the branching hormones present, whereas a freshly cut graft stock which is cut near the very tip would still be producing some of the vegetative growth, branch inhibiting hormones which would result in a faster growing single button with not many pups. This is just a theory I had while reading your post, I am not sure if any of it is true I am just applying basic biology theory to his situation. This of course would all rely on the fact that hormones are transferred from graft stock to sicon, which I am not sure is the case. Hope this helps.

Mid feb for Shrooms in Bali?

Any time that it's warm and humid will be good...especially with some rains. I have bought shrooms in a can from bali before. They weren't magic however

Looking for Salvia in New Zealand...

There must be someone who can help me out here!

    I'm Back! What's that?

So it's not marijuana? If not, then I think I know what it is...well, not exactly, but I have seen one of those plants before. (the leaves have a tiny stem at the base instead of joining right on) There was one right outside my room at a place I stayed about a year ago while I was apple thinning. When it flowers, it even has a strange marijuana-ish scent to it - what a tease! I asked someone what it was, and they knew the name of it, so I will track 'em down and ask again for you Sorry I can't be of immediate help...will get the name asap. (Which probably means a week or two)

    ipomoea hybrids

Hey man, Thanks a lot, a very helpful reply! After doing a google image search, I think it is Ipomoea Indica...kind of a bummer really... If I ever get my hands on another morning glory plant, I will attempt to cross pollinate them, and get back to you if they bear seeds! Until then, my search continues for an active morning glory! Thanks again

Looking for Salvia in New Zealand...

Yes, they sell dried herb there. I am looking for a live cutting or rooted Salvia Divinorum plant. Can anyone help me out?

    peyote pollen please

So there is no difference in appearance of the texensis and decepiens varieties compared to straight Lophophora williamsii?

    ipomoea hybrids

Hi all, Sorry to go a bit off topic here, but I have a couple of morning glory questions and figured this was a good thread to ask it in... Firstly, last year I found a few plants that I am sure are morning glory of some kind. The flowers look exactly like photos I have seen, some are quite purple, others more purple-blue. The vine tips look exactly the same as well. What I am confused about is, the plants are back again this year and I went to get a cutting, and now I notice that the leaves are not heart shaped, but more like a heart with three bottoms. Kind of like the leaf is three fingered, except the fingers aren't seperated, they are joined with just three tips on the leaf instead of one. Both the stems and the leaves have a fuzzy fur on them. Is this a form of morning glory? And if so, is it LSA containing? Does anyone have links to pics which could help me identify? Also, is morning glory self fertile, or does it require two plants close together to pollinate each other? The reason I ask is I went to look for seeds on the ones last year but couldn't find any pods...maybe I was just too early or something. Any help much appreciated. Going monstrose?

Hey all, I have a Trichocereus Pachanoi that is looking rather odd. It is a small specimen, about 20cm tall, and about 5cm wide. Anyway, in the past year or so it has been developing some very strange looking folds / bends between the areoles. The ribs are looking more 'zig zag' or bendy than straight, and there is often a tight crevace extending from an areole sight inwards towards the normal crack in between the ribs. This is only happening in the newer growth area of the cactus, perhaps the top 7-8cm. It is well watered, though the ribs do look quite 'skinny'. I will try to get a pic of it sometime to help with my descriptions...but what I am mainly asking is, is Trichocereus Pachanoi var. Monstrose an actual seperate species, or can an ordinary San Pedro 'go monstrose'? And if this is going monstrose, what should I do? (Usually you see these ones more horizontal than vertical)... On a side note, is 'Lophophora Williamsii Caespitosa' a seperate species, or can caespitosa peyote be grown from normal peyote's seeds? Thanks for your help

    peyote pollen please

Wow, that is really cool! I was kind of annoyed because I am going to be getting a peyote button in a couple of days and I was thinking I'll have to wait till my others grow from seed before I can pollinate it...I am glad that they are self fertile! So I take it they CAN cross pollinate as well? Or will they only accept their own pollen? There must be some way of getting genetic diversity > evolution. By the way, Torsten, or anyone here who knows, what is the difference between the standard 'Lophophora Williamsii', and var. Texensis and var. Decepiens that are offered on this site? I would be interested to find out...

    peyote pollen please

Sorry, can't help you out here, not for a few years yet ...but I was just thinking the same thing today...I think people should save the pollen from there peyote or san pedro, perhaps in small ziplock bags, you could do trades of it like spore prints. On a side note, if you have a peyote, and it has buttons which you break off and plant seperatley, can these pollinate each other? I know with pedros they are self-sterile, its probably the same with peyote but hell, not harm in asking... Good luck with getting pollen, by the way

    Humidity for grafting cacti?

Hmm, now I'm confused... Here is an extract from the link posted above... #6. The grafted plant must be placed inside a high humidity container for 10 days out of direct sunlight (this is absolutely essential!).

    Humidity for grafting cacti?

Thanks guys, both helpful responses. I now feel prepared to preform the grafting! I am going to keep them in a fairly humid plastic box for the first ten days, exposing them to a little light, with daily air exchange. Keep a close eye out for any infection / rot, and I believe that it will work out well! By the way, has any of you tried grafting the roots of a peyote onto a San Pedro? I have heard it works good, and produces several pups. Guess we will wait and see.

    Humidity for grafting cacti?

Hey there people, Soon I am going to be grafting a small Peyote button onto the tip of a 10cm tall Trichocereus Pachanoi (San Pedro). Just a few questions before preform the surgery.... Firstly, in the first days / weeks after I join the two parts, is it best to have a high, medium or low humidity? The guy who is giving me the button suggested a high humidity, but he has never done a graft before. I thought I should ask you guys as to what to do about that. Also, how much light should I expose them to in the first weeks? (I am doing two grafts, one of the button, and another of the upside down root stock)... One more question...should I continue watering once a week as usual, or cut back for a while after I have done the grafts? Thanks a lot for any input, also any other advice on grafting would be good, from someone who has done it before
