Totally new to cactus... found in Brisbane area and brought home as a baby. Wondering also if I should cut the top “knob” (pardon the uneducated term, I will start learning), let it dry? And then re-plant. Hoping to learn a lot from the forum and build a beautiful cactus garden as I see in others posts. Figured making a post is my first step. Thanks

Thought I was done and over it for the season but @Pedro99’s mush porn pics got me itching again. Think I’ll be out and about for a nice early walk on Saturday morning.

If sub-cubensis then how would you even tell the difference? Isn’t the only difference the size of the spores? Did you have your microscope with you? If subaeruginosa then have to assume they were SEEN in different locations and would have thought it was still way too hot in SEQ? Not trying to be a dick just curious as to what was found?

AAggghhh! Damn city and 9-5. FOMO. On a different note... Is anyone coming to Brisbane for Fantastic Fungi Day - 26.03.2020? Fantastic fungi is screening in 2 cinemas and was thinking it would be cool to do a small meet up before or after?

Went for a stroll this morning. Saw 1 cube and about 10 fresh cyans. Not like the last couple of weeks. Do cubes and Cyans grow seasonally In SEQ or do you just have to go out after a bucket load of rain? and then wait for it to rain again? Also do we gets subs or any other psychedelic mushrooms throughout the year. I have googled this stuff but get mixed responses and would like to hear from the group.

Yeah, round this time of year hopefully they have gold tops popping up.
But more seriously I think it helps if you can at least see cows nearby and then if there is dung on the ground you could be on a winner. Of course after seeking permission to be there to look.
I’m sure google can help you somewhat. Cattle farms near me or similar
good luck

Was the sun around the great south east today good for growth or not? Either way I’m going on an adventure tomorrow morning

@Dozer yeah tiny. Kind of look like marasmius sp. or maybe cruentomycena viscidocruenta? I have no idea really.

Very interesting! it would make sense that a man made synthetic would ruin the effectiveness of natures medicine. Lots to think about now. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! @Responsible Choice. Now for a vulnerable but learning moment... Bro is not known for patience and everything He picked was wet cause of the rain. Tried researching drying techniques but lost interest quickly. Found something on sticking them in the oven on super low heat (65 degrees Celsius) so took half and tried while leaving the other half to air dry. Walked away for 10 minutes and the oven door was fogged up and everything inside soggier than before - different though kinda like a cooked mushroom. Anyway He pulled them out and put them in front of a fan. The cubes had actually leaked a purple juice from them which was sitting in the catch tray. He drank that for fun and to see if any effect. Has he fu$ked half his stash or do you think it will be right? Think He might invest in a hydrator or stick to air drying. Dumb and learning... hope others don’t make the mistake now

New to cactus
in Cacti & Succulents

Hi everyone, I have been relatively active (no pun intended) in the fungi forums for a little while and after seeing all your wonderful pictures and posts, want to extend my knowledge on cactus beyond the fact they are spikey! Anyone who would like to make some suggestions on how/where a newbie could get started would be greatly appreciated! I am in Brisbane area and happy to part with some of my hard earned dollars to get started. Thanks! Hopefully other newbies will also benefit from this. It’s a little intimidating because you all seem so well educated on the subject.
