They are a beautiful tree to look at, certainly my favourite of the acacia types at my place. Thanks for your help.

So I have avoided writing one of these "please ID" posts, and tried IDing the four or five different acacias that grow on my block, but man, I find it difficult. But since the soft soil due to the rain allowed one to fall last night, I thought I'd ask for help, since , well, fresh is best you know? Don't have any photos of seed pods. Located SEQ. Thanks

Hi All. So I've found a few threads on here that discussed some similarities to my question, but none of them seemed resolved. I'm after some discussion of people's experiences with brewing / fermenting and adding some herbal goodness. I keep bees so am lucky enough to frequently have an abundance of honey. As a result, I make my own metheglins (fruit flavoured meads), mostly cyser. Been thinking of adding some different botanicals, but am unsure of what stage to do so. During first ferment? Or during second ferment after racking off? Or at bottling when I back sweeten? I'll say straight up that I am not scientific at all in my brewing, I don't use a hydrometer or anything. Maybe I will one day, but for now, I've found a recipe that works and I just make subtle changes to it and see what results. I read somewhere recently that damiana steeped in wine makes a great drink for couples, which got me thinking about the subject in the first place. Botanicals I am thinking of include damiana and HBWR. I read in another thread on here that particular mushrooms might not be suitable due to the breakdown of components to less stable compounds. That makes sense to me. Anyone tried such a thing? Thanks

Hi Found these in the yard yesterday and never seem them before. Granted, we've had more rain in the last three days than, perhaps...ever. But still. Not necessarily chasing an ID, just posting because I think they look kinda cool and I'd not seen them previously. I am absolutely no expert, but I'm wondering if they are some type of puffball given the deflated "sac" thing in the middle? There are three in almost a diagonal line, two opened and one unopened in the middle. B

When proofreading that post I did wonder about my use of lower case, particularly in this forum...

Making mead and adding some extras

Thanks so much, I didn't expect such a resource. I don't like beer, but that lemon balm ale sounds good! -
I should be around. We got the plague in the house at the moment, so as long as it doesn't continuously roll through us for three weeks one after the other, I should be right.

Hi All Very new to cactus keeping. Didn't know I was interested in them until some very generous members on here gave me some (thanks fullahs!). Two of them have something wrong with them; one of them likely fungus given how wet SEQ is right now. The issue with the other one has been going on for a little while, but I think looks worse in recent days. It looks like the cut is dying / turning "woody". The photo isn't great, but I'm referring to the yellow / light brown along the length of the left hand side. It is quite a wide band that the photo only shows a portion of. Hoping that the pup it's throwing isn't one last attempt at reproduction before it dies... After some management advice on how to rectify. Thanks B

Put one aside for me please DJ?

I've never got a shopping bag full (or even close to a significant portion of one) like some people speak of, but I went out Saturday morn and got enough.

A hornet! Man, I always wanted one of them as a kid.

Will see how I go for timing. Missus arranged for some friends we haven't see in a while to come round. Won't be able to camp but if we kick off at usual start time I should make it
-
Yeah, I should be able to do that

Thanks all, was a great arvo. And yes HD, that was informative and helpful and I'm gonna put it to use today. Wivenhoe is a nice spot and I am always up for camping. There are some good youcamp spots close by on the river as well if we wanted to get away from, well, everyone.

Keen as a bean! We're back into kombucha again too, so I'll bring some for a taste off. Should have some perry (pear cider mead) drinkable by then too.

Hi Looking for the above, I'm located SEQ. Hope you can help. Thanks

Yeah, I could have explained myself better... Plants please. But I'd take some fresh hbwr seeds. They germinate easy?

This. I have a fair bit of trouble with animals, or at least did. Rats and mice eat everything, possums like to sample a bit of everything here and there and king parrots love green tomatoes! I live kinda outer-urban / semi-rural fringe and so was (still am?) pretty conflicted about using baits due the risk of secondary kills of owls, pythons etc, but I just had to. Always loved the vege garden at the old place but didn't garden here for a while due being despondent about losing the constant battle with wildlife. I have raised beds, use low secondary kill baits sparingly and tight bird netting sealing to the edges of the garden. Still had problems with rats and mice though. Worked out they were tunnelling up through the bed, I assume nesting in the bed as well. The solution (I hope, been working for a few months now so I think I got it), was to dig out part of my garden bed, lay a physical barrier of overlapping chicken / bird wire and put my soil back on top. No issues since and not having to use baits at all near / in the garden anymore. Haven't caught any possums or reptiles in the bird netting either.
