  1. Thats brave of you Watertrade

I enjoyed my visit to ACT all those years ago, and was ok with the fact that if ever the opportunity came up i would happily move there and not grumble about it. Everyone seems to grumble about the cold there, but hey im in Tas, so it doesnt bother me (in fact i love it), plus the city is beautiful, and more access to culture than i have.

I am now officially over Hobart. I've been here way too long and compared to the other cities i have been to, its ugly, and depressing. there are only a few nice old buildings to keep me happy, and the only saving grace, is all the freaking amazing fungi growing on that amazing mountain towering over us, and alls its majestic bush walks.

Anyway, sorry didnt mean to sidetrack your thread watertrade

  2. Well done ferret, nice to see how healthy it is, and interesting to hear you have repotted it.

Nice to see you online Gerbil.

I missed you both when i was in melbourne recently, would have been nice to catch up, but i should have made the effort to contact you. though you might be at the meet :D

  3. It was great to catch up with you recently Ronny.

The prelim pic for the project looks awesome. cant wait to see the rest.

Glad to hear the cloudehill project is still on the go, hope the books were a good read :D

Interesting to hear that alcohol and other things do not have the same lure as they used to. This has certainly happened to me as well, and lovign the clarify it brings. i can be passionate about plants and their cultural significance but it doesnt have to imply participation as well.

Not getting soft, perhaps just wiser.

    Cheers, Ob.

  4. I use it in conjection with excel, keep all my datasets in .csv files. I primarily use it just for analysis for statistical significance, for F or P values.

but when i want to graph out the same data, i just google a nice down to earth script (the example ones from the built in FAQ (also on thier site i think) are brilliant)

I think like a lot of things practise makes perfect, and also a lot of screwing around with the scripts themselves helps to expand your understanding.

  5. I love R, its the bees' knees. but incredibly steep learning curve.

best way to learn to use it is to cut and paste scripts, and start developing your own small library you can reuse.

There are an incredible amount of scripts out there you can reuse, just google what your looking for. should be plenty of short tutorials out there that you can use, and perhaps best to use a few.

Start by using the R websites FAQ, and then google others.

If you havent done any programming before it would be pretty daunting, but one it starts falling into place for you, you'll love it.

    Cheers, Ob.

  6. hear you brother, know the feeling. but always silver lining to those storm clouds ;)

My book collection grows, and grows. and threw the pc collection out. im currently turfing lots of stuff, buts really hard due to genetic hoarding problem.

    :D

  7. I think there is room for both the fear and loathing experince, and the deeply spiritual couterpoint, its really a matter of experince and how well you are able to maneuvour through the space.

I definitely feel that entheogens can provide a heightened state of awareness that can provide an exquisite spiritual experience. interesting point about "degenerate" as you put it, but understand what you mean as the potential is there. I have encountered many people who do have that degenerate experience, and for them the experience becomes meaningless and referred to jokingly as a stupid thing they did once, and never went back. As i am getting older i am learning to catch those moments to express my surprise, and confide with my own experiences as a counterpoint.

    cheers, Ob.

  8. How is her book "lysergic", delusional? I found the book hard to read, given the decadent lifestyle to which she was exposed, and seemed to brag about all the time, and i personally found the spirituality that she tries to express through the descriptions of experiences very disjointed. I just couldnt gel with it, and would never recommend it, it rings to me as the type of book that should be read by those already experienced, certainly not as a book that must be read, and i would be concerned that the uninitiated would totally get the wrong idea on a few substances.

I have also experienced delusional psychedelic journeys through periods of abuse in my own life, and i dont think it is uncommon at all. That the experinces can unground us and can be hard to come to terms with. I just feel that this book is the result of one of those journeys, and should have instead been written after a lot of afterthought.

Re: sudden enlightenment school of southern chinese chan, never heard it referred to as that, but love the philosophy.

  9. I really didnt like her book, i mean really didnt like the book.

but it was nice to see this video, certainly not quite the image i had gotten of her from the book or neurosoup vids. the book comes across as pretty delusional, but she seems a bit more down to earth in this (maybe from not taking so many entheogens anymore).

The end story is pretty screwed up ey!

  10. Really references should come from either peer reviewed journals, or the publishers of data (i.e. bureau of stats, or meteorlogy).

I would suspect that many methods published here are reworkings / modifications from techniques published elsewhere.

same with some of the facts, they need to be backed up.

In some cases you can use "pers. communications", or "unpublished data", and you do see this in academic papers. One of the best examples of this i have ever seen is in Snu's Garden of Eden where he referneces info sourced from individuals from here and other sites.

If you can find a paper, book, that back you up, its better. Even using sites like Wikipedia in some academic institutions is bad form and looked down upon, even though they now have a form of peer review to ensure facts. The web is seen as just so much blah and not credible.

I have thought a lot about this same thing, as there is some amazing facts found in forums that come from peoples own private reasearch and not published in any academic sense, so i guess caution should be observed.

  11. yeah speaking of blast, i lost a few cobwebs up that way, and they are not missed. while i left with what i took, i left behind some old emotional baggage and feel much better for a great weekend.

there is something about really trancing out to some good psy and working through stuff that just amazes me every time :D

Then to get to melbourne and see Einsturzende Neabauten just topped it off . WOW!!!! WOW!!!!

i ran into a couple of sab people, but would have loved to have had a chat to chat with you ajna. likewsie with Domide and Xenodimensional.

I guess there is next time, and just need to be more on the ball to organise a time and space, but from experience i know its hard to get plants heads in the same space at the same time, especially at an event like that lol.

  12. I have though about this the best way would be to grow your vegetable's hydroponicly from a non contaminated source

im a prepper and i was going to use a aquaculture human waste to feed the crops live in harmony so to speak

but i doubt it would be a nuke attack im thinking a massive meteorite causing a huge tsunami wiping out everything

Interesting, but hydroponics just dont cut it in my opinion. The more i read and research the more important the relationship with soil fungi in particular (remember that 80 to 90 % of all plant species must have a fungal symbiosis to access nutrients from the soil, obtain sufficient water, and to maintain the plants natural defences against pathogens ), and also soil bacteria that also faciliate these same nutrient exchanges, particularly in the case of legumes they are essential and each legume has a specific symbiont. Human waste would not provide those.

While seed storage is a great idea, in order to have healthy and in particular, nutritious fruiting plants, these other aspects are fundamental. realistically you will also need to be stroing these bacteria and fungi to then be able to replicate these natural process. other wise i really dont see the point.

  14. Have fun guys.

Fractangular is happening here in Tas this weekend. have plans to go, but probably wont due to finances as im off to Earth Frequency in QLD the weekend after and then a few days in Melb.

But the Fungimap conference is in Vic this year so I may be back in vic for that in May(?). be nice to see some of you then.

anyway, dont do anything too crazy.

    Cheers, Ob.

  15. Hi all,

I have ended up with a spare ticket to Earth Frequency.

In the past with other tickets i have run a competition, but i'm a bit short on cash at the moment, so sorry about that.

Anyway, I'd be happy with $150, but depending on demand would consider a reasonable offer.

Pm me and we'll work it out from there.

    Cheers, Ob.

  16. It may well be a warning call from a nice quarantine officer who wanted to: 1) let your friend know the state quarantine laws, seekign verbal confirmation that he/she now understood them (next time they will just fine your friend); 2) to work out what to do with the plant, returnit to sender, or have it destroyed; 3) To work out if sender was also aware of quarantine laws in order to also contact them, and potentially fine them.

Your friend will be put on a list somewhere and any future scrapes will be inexcusible because of verbal acknowledgement.

I would return the call, asking why. otherwise they may just receive a fine. first time offence will probably just be a warning.

I got a very stern warning from Tas quarantine, and the phone call was related tot he above three points. I got let off a very severe fine with a first warning, but found out they can potentially also fine the sender. Guy who called me made me confirm i understood the regulations and next time was fine time. package contained heaps of dirt from unwashed roots, and not packaged very well as dirt was leaking out the side - for Tas and WA this is absolute no no.

    Cheers, Ob.

  17. Providing we get out shite together in the next week or so we could give you a lift up OB, we will only have 6 on board at most & can carry 14 at a squeeze.

Hey Shortly, this would be sweet. happy to throw in for petrol money.

    Getting pretty excited about this.

Looking forward to maybe meeting a few of the northern SAB members. should we organise a place and time to catch up?

It turns out i have a spare ticket, will post in the trade thread in a day or two. Pm me if interested.

    Cheers, Ob.
