I'm in Southern Tasmania and a big problem here is the pre-dominance of cloud which blocks the view a lot of the time. While they are there sometimes, you dont get the really good ones very often. 20 odd years ago i saw an amazing one, really bright psychedelic vivid colours that went on for hours. I remember my parents really enjoyed it I havent seen one in a couple of years now. my dads calls me now and then to let me one is there, but im not in the best location being close to a town, and cloud is usually a problem. when i was a kid i lived really far southern Tasmania where there were no lights and we got to see a few good ones there. but yeah, nothing like the polar ones. cheers, Ob.

bush doofs are amazing. i've been going to the odd one here or there for some 13 years and they are just the best experience. so layed back and chilled out, they just seem so much more communal, and organic. I dont like the idea of going to indoor events anymore. i think once you get in there and get into the outdoor doof vibe you cant go back. Having said that, you do get a few dodgy ones, where the vibe isnt there. over the last couple of years i have noticed an increase in alcohol usage and i personally find that a bit unpleasant, especially when there are heaps of people sitting around consuming it. and sometimes they can be too loud. just cause your in the bush doesnt mean you have the crank the sound system. but if its all well organised, and good vibes, they can be mind blowing events. nothing like watching the sun rise over the trees, and blissing out to wicked tunes. yeah!!! cheers, Ob.

whew!!! I took a week off to go to EGA and I'm still trying to tune back into normal routines, but perhaps thats the point... perhaps i shouldnt even try!!! The thing i love about EGA, is the great sense of community that is just so energetic and positive. I came away from it with this great feeling of "wow". It's great to meet and hang out with so many people of like mind. And while it was different to the outdoor event last year, the same energy was present. and i appreciated that so much. And the talks were great. So much information in such a short time. There are so many amazing people who are a part of this community and the information and wisdom they have to give is just so inspiring. Thanks so much to the EGA crew. you guys did an amazing job. I'm looking forward to next EGA already... Cheers, Obtuse. -

Good online book store. recommend them. they usually take longer than quoted, and sometimes dings on the books, but nothing worth complaining about. but yeah the $50 free shipping is a good incentive hey. and in addition their occassional $10 voucher to help clear items from your wishlist or saved cart lol cheers, Obtuse.

Anywhere from 2 to 4 maybe even 6 weeks. i kept the soil fairly wet and warm using a microwave food container. And they were by a window, so lots of light, though i dont think light is a huge factor. I remember giving up on them so maybe it was 6 weeks, im not the patient type lol. i just remember they all appeared at once one day. They love heaps of root space, so once they have germinated put them in a pot, of if you have a good spot in the ground. It wont take long to put out some growth and then put out a flower head. Cheers, Obtuse.

My experience with these plants is that they are as hard as nails and will take any abuse thrown at them. I grew mine in standard reused potting mix, in pots last year. They survived a fair bit of forgetfullness, i.e. times of not much water. They also survived a few frosts. quite a few -2.0 mornings. They dont take long to flower, and flower copiously. basically they are super easy to grow. but yeah they do love water. I havent managed to kill them so they must be pretty hardy lol. Cheers, Ob.

Yeah i have. good book and well worth reading. Not quite as punchy as One River. but pretty good nonetheless. Written in his younger days, so id say style lacking a bit, but the info he presents is fascinating. go read it, youll enjoy it. Anone see the film??? Anyone else read any of his other books? keen to know as i have enjoyed This and One River so far. Cheers, Obtuse. -------------------- Oh yeah, One River. Fantastic book. sort of four stories in one. make sure you put aside a few days, cause you wont want to put it down. makes you want to give up your day job and go trecking around the jungle discovering new plants. I loved every page. And as indigo sunrise pointed out lots of lovely little anecdotes. Cheers.

obtuse replied to MrPotato's topic in Ethnobotany
Someone told me about this a year or so ago. So i went googling. i found this reference: http://www.unodc.org/unodc/en/data-and-ana..._2_page006.html Good article, but a little old perhaps. some of the info is intereting. This article is also repeated at Lycaeum: http://leda.lycaeum.org/?ID=16593 An interesting topic. would be good to know more. cheers, Obtuse. -
Hey Everyone. Site is back up now. As Gilligan and Torsten have both pointed out, We have moved the site to a new server. DNS appears to have finished propagating so i have set the site active again. Took a bit longer than expected. but it all seems ok now. I'd like to thank Torsten for hosting the site for as long as he did. cheers Torsten, it has been appreciated. With regards to day to day discussions etc, I hope i haven't caused any major inconvenience with the site being out of action for the last few days. Ok, back to a bit of normality i hope, it's been a long week. Cheers, Obtuse.
