  1. Yeah im not 100% sur if 80% of infected cactus were tmv or that 80% of cactus have some form of virus.

Pretty sure the varigated virus is a separate virus all together may even be several

Anyways im off to have a rant about something. .......just don't eat grapes

  2. Good shit

I also hear that creating competition with the use of beneficial bacteria and fungus is useful in controlling viruses.

Also read that basically more than 80% of cactus are infected with tmv (thinks thats the acronym) it sort of behaves like herpes. Stays dormant till the conditions are just right then wakes up

Also learning how varigations are actually a virus and not genetic...byt that might be common knowledge now, also learnt you can infect other cactus with variegated trates via aloha grafts some how.

Also research is showing that in some cases theres a beneficial relationship between cactus and viruses till conditions are just right and viruses takes over and fucks shit up on ya. This relationship between cactus and viruses is thought to have come about when cactus first appeared (eons ago) and that possibily one wouldn't be hear with out the other.

    Thanks for the quick replymate.

I don't smoke ciggies and haven't smoked weed since about a week before Christmas as well.  I also only touched them while planting/transplanting them as I have a healthy fear of getting poked.  My daughter has touched a few of them but she too got poked early on and hasn't put her hands anywhere near them.

The ones I've tried to graft are all fine.  I even had to go back and cut the originals again because despite the quite large angle I cut them on they all formed bowls which were holding a ton of water and mold was starting to grow.  They look ugly as sin now but problem solved I guess.

I know absolutely nothing about bugs so I don't know if any are to blame but there's been a massive amount of grasshoppers here of late, spiders absolutely adore setting up their webs between the spikes, oddly enough flies tend to land on them all the time despite the spiders being on on duty 24/7 and I've also seen moths on them too.  I haven't seen anything chewing on them though and nor have I seen any bite marks either.  The first signs of damage are those yellow dots appearing.

I think I'll take a trip to bunnings and see about getting one of those screened in plant enclosures.  They're terrible quality but if I can keep the bugs out maybe an ounce of prevention will be worth a pound of cure.

You don't happen to have tomatoes growing close by, by any chance? Next door maybe?...there a viral sorce nightmare for cacti

    Use the search engine

I see at least half a dozen threads on Oryzalin and other mutagens

I know i had a look i couldn't really find anybody who has actually done it other than thought about it, i didnt see any mentions of nicotine sulphate either but lots of other interesting compounds to research for options, thank you.

Im just looking for something thats easily accessible to accomplish it with out having to jump through hoops,  fake having gout, depriving someone of there medication or trying to buy prescription durgs illegally

Looks like others have played with lophs thou i do admit.

I cant remember mutant growth, do remember some just growing to quick and stringy twisted crap that had to be cut off.

Colloidal silver breaks down the membrane of the cell causing change, it works on all cells.

What you describe is crossing blah people crossing plants or pollen chucking with out a plan of what their trying to achieve,  they form a bud like structure with hundreds of leaves no or few resin glands flat stems.

    Your right

His stuff was a mix of all sorts, i know what your saying. But polly trates are passed on through generations it becomes a resessive trate. When the genetics match just right it throws a pacictular phenotype in this case

The bloke im was talking about was my own father. I seen this weird growth my self, several times in my young teens when he used to do his thing. He called them pollys, i asked him why. Reply was "well i used have this friend who worked in a university an he gave me this little jar of stuff...blah blah bla this, was one of the results and it comes back sometimes, proceeds to point out other polly resessive trates that still show through. Weird leaf structures, stem shapes, growth patterns ect.

Maybe different genetics produce different results.

  5. Hmmm read that nicotine sulphate has the potential of cause doubling of chromosomes. Wonder if its easy as it sounds, salting nicotine with sulphuric acid.....

I just realized its another reason i did not want to hear to give up my enjoyable smoking habits but any way

Back to the point, this might be the go due to the ease of availability to nicotine these days (thank you vape trend), and maybe be the safest, natural, vegen way of doing things

  6. Actually gotta correct my self "colchicine" is whats used to treat gout but still induces polyploidy

Yeah heard the same story, i know bloke who was doing the same thing years ago (1970). But he got like a crested form (weird twisty flat stem with strange looking floweres) amongst others things, told me you couldn't somke the first batch but to grow the seeds from it.

He occasionly got a throw back now an again normally just a branch sometimes an entire plant it looked alien. Shame he passed a few years back

Iv got no interest in selling them if i do an experiment, maybe if they flower and produce seed and i would definitely be sure to lable them.

Im not sure what colloidal silver would do as trich fowers are like maphrodites in a sense can produce pollen and receive but self steril......gets me thinking tho

    Hi everyone

Lately i have been playing round with some of my pedros trying to induce forced mutations via placing the cactus under stress unusually to see how the cactus will react to try and over come it. Iv been meaning to post about it but i think i got about zillion pictures to upload but bugger all data. But mostly the conclusion ends the same cactus is intelligent on so many levels and altho you can induce something weird for a short time it always overcomes and reverts back to regular growth. Occasionally you get something cool tho and iv actually lernt alot throu the experience.

Anyways, got lost in thoughts last night and knowing people have induced polyploidy in other plants with the treatment of seeds with Oryzalin (gout treatment in humans believe it or not...or was at one point im not 100%) was wondering if any one has given it ago yet. If not might be a worth while experiment to try.

Think it works by either adding to or subtracting from the chromosome count of the plant or something, either way you get lots weird shit going on.

And ill end with a quick pic of one my experiments

I see the same thing on there all the time but in particular with lophs.  They'll call them LW Cactus and then list half a dozen different varieties to show up in people's searches.  Here's a tame example: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LW-Cactus-Massive-8-5-cm-head-golden-torch-Trichocereus-graft-15cm-pot/264127709048?hash=item3d7f3cff78:g:Fp8AAOSwjwZcLYGk:rk:13:pf:0

Yeah some times you gotta keep your eyes open scored this loph garft for under a $100, not a mention of lw, button or loph anywhere in the auction. It was listed as a astro

Think ones just a multi head going weird cause its on a graft, but the double headed varigated graft is something i would consider spending $$$ on.....but im in "trying to save" $$$ mode" atm and broke is a big barrier to get around

  11. O.o wtf

I know im only new on the scene so please bear with me.

Story i heard/read was csd originaly grown from a deceased sab member (was a female from memory) Clones were handed out to a select few members.

Now im hearing its a bloke he still alive an kicking.

Now im really interested an want to find out more

  12. Yeah face book, awhile ago when i frist heard of csd, whent looking for it typed in csd in the search thingy, there was cactus page selling csd cuts at remarkably low prices, also found a bloke talking about his csd cactus that he grew from seed who had a similar name to the bloke selling cheap csd cuts. As i understand it the original was from cuts handed out to few lucky sab members as rememoral for a dead member who originally grew the original

But i could be completely wrong if so i apologize

  13. Oh and he is "not" full of shit, i only asked him the other month if has any cuts for sale, his reply was he only had grafting material.

But he did send me a fb message letting me know about the ebay sale on Saturday, i only found out after i wrote this original post. That i have now had to edit because he is truly a ledgand amongst men

Ha ha ha cunts are getting ripped hard, pretty sure its not the original csd cut from research on fb. The bloke was just lucky to get a similar mutation from the same seed sorce. If you find his fb page you will see was selling grafts for only cheap last year
