    Carvings of mine

So cool. I bought some vegetable ivory to carve, but then realized how freaking hard it was, and that I didn't have a carving device good enough to make a mark in it. I wanted to do it scrimshaw style and not with a Dremmel. then I saw how many different knives there were and how much they cost. So now I have 6$ worth of it which I wouldn't throw away but I'm not sure I'll ever get to carving it!

    Issue with grafted seedling

Not so sure. It is pretty solid on the grafting stock so it's getting water enough. Even the red one that was not quite on there is doing really well. Here are some more photos but I did just dust it with sulphur. Looks like there is an offset coming from the grafting stock though. I hope maybe the sulphur dusting will make it wake up a bit and I will cut the offset off. Bonus Pere offset photo

Went to a local greenhouse today

I went to a local greenhouse today and managed to get access to their back area with their stock plants they take cuttings from. Kind of neat. I notice they always cut a centimetre or so above the offset location. Does anyone know why that would be? Does it somehow create more offsets? Some of these really seem to have spread out horizontally because of it. Not sure if that's an advantage or not. Nice to see logging, which I haven't tried.

Zelly's trich crosses, got pics? post here please

I had no idea stuff can get this big on grafting stock like this. Not sure why, but I had a 2" bridgsii that stopped growing and was growing aerial roots so I degrafted it recently. I also have a 3-4" Oreocereus that seemed to stop and was growing aerial roots again so I figured that was the max size...
  6. I had penis envy up until a few weeks ago. I finally got mine in, had to travel to the US to get it. So happy to have one now. But there are so many types and they're all different!

What did you do to your cacti today?

Thankfully my grafting stock rebounded in the last few weeks. So I grafted my boscana "fred" to a piece of panachoi, and some Lophs to panachoi/pereskiopsis. Hopefully will get some growth this season.
  8. I have my plants just out in my backyard, basically easily accessible. The year before someone even stole my bike from my backyard, after midnight in a rainstorm. So I kind of worried that someone might come and steal some of my plants. Until I realized that a rare Monadenium that I was amazed to find at the nursery is not as interesting to people as it is to me. Though I do have some youngish kinds renting the apartment above me. So I feel there is a certain risk that one of them could become wise about some of my collection...

    beware of verne

Hey Magical, what kind of cactus is your avatar. I saw something very close but I didn't pick it up. I regret it, but would love an ID. http://i.imgur.com/Rc8BbU0.jpg

    Show off your freaks

Here are what I have, I wish I had some cactus freaks, except a Lophocereus that I just bought. Other than that it's these succulents (and a few Euphorbia lactea but those aren't interesting enough.
  11. Okay looks like I found it. Very cool if you ask me, but definitely looks thirsty. Interesting, it was in June, you'd think it'd be awake.
  12. Wha? Where from Europe for pennies? Do you have a lead where to find it? It's too beautiful. I went to San Francisco two years ago and saw a succulent show with a penis a meter long with no spines. Amazing. Actually I should have that photo...
  13. I am in Canada, a lot harder to find cacti but especially bridgesii crests. I have a few panachoi and bridgsii, nothing special. One "4 winds" but ultimately that's not especially crazy. Thinking of trying to buy one when I am in the US and bringing it back with me if I go. Otherwise I don't have much opportunity! Great collections guys.
