Cactus of the month year day thread? Which cactus is really shining for you right now?

Have been watching the big fella wake up. He seems to come to life late every season. Pachycereus pringlei -
Have had this guy since he was an inch high, and he has just thrown out his first flower! Neobuxbaumia polylopha
-
Pretty disappointing! Something like that should be clear in the ad. The others plants look nice though. Still I would be pissed, if I traveled to buy that like I have in the past!

My first seed grown echinopsis hybrid to flower for me. Hotlips x goldrose

Well I reckon you scored there spooge! As for the pilosocereus and azurocereus, I think they like it a bit warmer and are probably my best growers and flower most of the year round. The pilosocereus's that is, the azurocerus isn't quite big enough yet.

It is not looking good, seem to be splitting from the tip out?

Would love to chill in your lounge room -
Normal mate, some cuts don't display this a much, but a lot do. Big fat plants need big fat roots, give them time. As for the yellow tips, they look fine also mate. Maybe just the new growth adjusting to the light. Black ring I don't really see, just nice new growth, which can contrast to old growth?

Another spine story, is of my wife who used a pilosocereus to break her fall and ended up with a spine through the palm off her hand. You could feel the spike just under her skin on the other side. They knocked her out and after 2 hours of surgery it was removed. I wasn't real popular and there is no cactus at the back steps anymore!

Thanks Kykeion, will do updates for sure. It does make life a bit easier, when they get in the ground. Though conditions aren't ideal for me either and also get a bit jealous of the gardens down south! But work with what I have. And thanks Micromegas, will see if it mirrors the image in my head. Sure to be few road bumps and will see how they go being so tight, hoping they all just blend together to form some what of a wall.

It has taken me three years to get to this stage. My motive was to get my collection into a landscaped garden. I live in a sub tropical environment, so drainage was my main goal. I thus raised all garden beds by making gabion rock walls out of old gal fence panels and a few new gal wire sheets. I dug the garden beds out and ran ag pipes underneath and connected to the storm water and covered in 20mm aggregate and a free draining soil mix. So after 14 tons of stone, into the gabion walls, driveway, letterbox and spiral pier this is the result. Hope you guys appreciate it. Cheers

Thanks! No it is solar weave, that is why I have just put the echinopsis hybrids on the side. They shouldn't get that high, and I didn't want them to shade the hot house too much either.
-
Managed to squeeze a few more garden beds in. Hoping it will incase the paved area for a pretty private spot. Have planted pretty tight . The top bed next to the hot house are all echinopsis hybrids except for the WK. Then a few biggens down lower, then next to the pavers are mostly seed grown trichos I have degrafted.

Psycho0 x tpm -
Thanks Micromegas and Change, it is a pilosocereus leucocephalus. Was lucky enough to find it at a local nursery about 4 years ago. It was unlabelled and unloved and has been thriving ever since. Interesting flower too Change
