    Bizarre!

Finally I have another person that agrees I think I have mentioned this on the forums before? Anyway, I have had this discussion with a few friends also. And every time, I have been met with smirks, jeers and comments of Disbelief It has therefore been decided, Untill I provide a sample of fresh shrooms and a spray of Windex in a glass to compare it with, I am to be branded as delusional. Thankyou divinersage, With your permission I shall be using your post as a backup defence against my friends! Also to add to the conspiracy, Windex is Blue!!!! I think you guys can See what I am getting at here hey??? Haha Grammer edit.

    Bizarre!

Found this info on the Peckii thru wiki, Quote "This liquid contains a mushroom pigment called atromentin, which has anticoagulant properties similar to heparin." Very Interesting? Look here for some Intreging info, http://healing-mushrooms.net/archives/hydnellum-peckii.html And Here http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/Dis...d~6119~gid~.asp Here is another similar fungus. "Hydnellum diabolus" Apparently you can tell these two apart by having a bit of a sniff! Peckii is odourless, While Hydnellum Diabolus is said to have an almost sweet resinous odour! They both look so alike! Seems it would be very easy to confuse them if it wasnt for the different odour! From what I can tell It is mostly found in European and North America areas? As a side note, Is it just me or does anyone else think that FRESH Subs smell the same or similar to Windex?

    Bizarre!

That is one Amazingly Beautifull looking fungus Gen! One I have never encountered before. Seems it is called "Hydnellum peckii" Or "Bleeding Tooth Fungus" Quote from Link, "Later the fruitbody becomes tougher and teeth develop on the underside. This common and widespread species fruits under conifers." A mushroom with teeth!!! It almost looks as if it has attacked something & become covered in its victims blood Also I wonder how "Common & Widespread" this fungus may be? I am off to research this a bit further to see what I can find out Thanks for sharing Genesis, Truly Amazing.

    Spreading Spores!

Hello ppl, Lets say one had a bunch of wild spore prints on foil. Then one rinsed spores with Sterile or Distilled water(the type used for injections in fit packs & such) into a sterilised pyrex jug then pulled into 20ml syringe barrels & Sprayed Onto & Injected Into a few Woodchip/Mulch beds about the place! My Question is, Would these Woodchips/Mulch Beds need to already have a Mycelial Content present to eventually fruit these spores? Or do the spores themselves (Given ideal conditions) form a Mycelial Network thru their own doing? In a location where allowed Of Course! I am pretty sure this practice would be illegal In this country. Thankyou.

    sub storage

I have found the potency between shrooms can vary greatly, Even if they are same size & from same location! So I find Drying & powdering makes it easy to judge even potency And you can just dose by the teaspoon, Adding more or less as the individual prefers! I use this storage method using empty 100mg Kapanol capsules, It is very effective way of keeping your product active. It is also one of my favorite ways of consuming, Coming Only second to soaking Dried & Ground Booms for about 10min in just enough Lemon or Lime juice to cover, then adding kettle boiled hot water to make a tea Another question, Has anyone experienced an outbreak of a rash or similar skin irratation after eating fresh specimens? I no longer consume fresh as this rash appears every time I do so!

    Spreading Spores!

Thankyou for your replies everyone I am going to try out genki's method with the salt and sugar on some reasonably new beds! Also I will be experimenting with growing a Mycelial Network within some Cardboard as mentioned here & in the forum a few times, Then using this Mycolised cardboard to try and Re-Introduce to a former patch that was once very proliferant <sp?>but sadly does not now produce. Thankyou again to all who replied, I will keep you informed of how these methods go. I may even begin a photo diary to accompany my efforts.

    The server was hacked

Yes it certainly was a bit frustrating, I also noticed some of the other sites mentioned above were down at the same time, So I was worried something drastic may of happened. Was there any Damage apart from the downtime and lost information caused from this? Have any users Passwords, Accounts, Pms ect been comprimised in anyway? Congratulations and Thankyou to the team for getting the site back online.

Just a few finds - nothing active

Beautiful Pics there poo, I like the look of that "lattice ball" Very strange indeed. Most of the amanitas in my area are looking pretty old and blackened like that now too. Happy Hunting.

Hello ydarb, the pinch method is a pretty much just one standard method that should be learnt by all newbie hunters and dismissing anything with a ring on the stem is also another tic in the box. But To just "Hope for the best" is a pretty lax attitude to have when it comes to not being sure if you have a gallerina or other potentialy deadly fungi in your mix! Accidental ingestion of just a single specimen can mean a very painfull death from liver & kidney failure! So There may not be a next time to be more carefull. also taking a spore print may save your life, 12 hours wait is nothing compared to keeping the rest of your life! Great post Hyphal, It just shows how much peoples perceptions and observations can differ when making an Id, and just how similar looking two completly different species of fungus can be. I think some people are just too Happy go lucky when it comes to hunting fungi and taking just a little time to chill out and learn a bit more first can be the best thing you ever did, they arent going anywhere fast! Always Remember "If in doubt, Throw it out"

Cubes in Tassie & spore prints.

Greetings Folks, I have always thought that in Tasmania we only had the Psilocybe tasmaniana, subaeruginosa, eucalyptas and semilanceata ect. And The Copelandia cyanescens. Do the first 3 species listed all look pretty much the same as your general sub like mushroom? ie Little gold phallic like tops when they are younger and growing out either large flat caps or umberella,Nipple like caps with thick stems at adult stage? Also what species are the fungi that people refer to as liberty caps? Is it Psilocybe semilanceata? I beleive I have found something very much like these just going by pics on wiki and erowid, Of course I would not consume these without fully identifiying them 100% to be what I am looking for. Has anyone found these semilanceata in australia or tassie and I am curious to know if anyone has had any success themselves or heard of others finding cubensis & Copelandia cyanescens in tasmania? Forgive me if these are obvious questions, I have searched wiki & Erowid but cant find much info apart from the usual basic info on these 2 fungi! and J, Allens guide to aus & NZ Mushrooms.www.erowid.org/library/books_online/magic_mushrooms_aunz/magic_mushrooms_aunz.shtml/ Also A question about spore prints, I have laid out a sheet of foil onto newspaper & place caps about 4-5 cm apart covering the sheet then laying a sheet of newspaper on top. It was then placed on a clothes rack on the back of a door in a room that is a constant 19 degrees celcius for 3 days. The spores have now dropped & i have removed the caps to dry further, I am now left with a sheet of foil covered by about 30 spore prints that I have just folded onto itself inside a sheet or 4 of newspaper. 1 - How would I best preserve the best ones after I have cut them from the sheet? 2 - Can I just wash the rest into water to make a "Spore Water" Solution? I assume bottled spring water would be better than tap water, I want to put it into a spray bottle and spread the water back over woodchips and the beds that they originated in Thankyou.

I thinking the centre Mushroom is the bad guy & the 1st and 3rd are both psilocybins? Is that a slight ring i see on the stem of #2 just out of focus? and is that a slight blueing on the far side of the cap on the 3rd pic? Please Dont take my word for fact, I just use the power of deduction and a lil bit of common sense? to properly ID would invole a more in depth inspection of specimens. I also agree with poo and hyphal, I have been collecting fungi for over ten years & I know what grows in my local area, That said, Even tho I am pretty clued up, Sometimes even I get fooled very easily & have learned if your unsure then just leave it in the ground, If you treat the area good then it should produce many other more easily identifiable specimens for study!

Cubes in Tassie & spore prints.

Thankyou for the link Gen, That is a new site for me! As for it being to cold for Cubes, Thats exactly what I have been told by a few "Know it alls" But Its not really THAT cold down here & I want to set my curious mind to ease once and for all! I do hear that they occur closer to the warmer months like late spring to summer? As for the caps, Of course they be non active my friend.... Of Course they be

    Mushroom season 2008.

Well I must say, I have had a fun filled day I promised you all some pics, So for your viewing pleasure here is a little montage of what I came across in my travels today First up these 2 were found in Acacia litter and grass, It is the only the second time I have found subs exclusively in Acacia litter & they stain blue faster and darker than any I have ever seen. They were found on the right hand side of this pic, Just before I reached the bridge area. Now we progress across the next bridge & into Acacias mixed with Manfern & Eucalypts The Ground Cover. This is one happy lil Slug Well I think thats enough from me for this post. Thankyou & I hope you all get some enjoyment from my pics..

    Mushroom season 2008.

I like to visit a large local suburban reserve that has many patches in completley different enviroments as you progress on whate gravel walking tracks that begin in open wildlife park settings sorounding a river & Lake with running,Cycling tracks. The vegetation consists of Radiata, Macrocapas,Eucalypts, Gum and various connifers ect and progress back few kms to a highway thru gravel and wooden bridged paths alongside a river into bush of old growth, natives, Tea tree, Acacias, escaped species like fushias & revegetation plants put in place as pathetic attempts from local council to compensate for the damage done putting in said tracks & diverting the river system to run alongside the track in selected scenic places! Anyway sorry to get carried away, In terms of patch life or Viability, Sustainability ect. IMO Depends on the location & the way patches are harvested & treated! One patch that was located in the park area was on grass surounded with decaying Norfolk pine & Eucalypt matter, I harvested there for about 3 seasons after I dicovered it, making sure to leave enough tohelp replenish spores for the following year. But for some reason one year the council went on a rampage all the streets and most public parks spraying what i assume was glyphosate on every weed and patch of parkland they could find. Sadly the patch didnt fruit one single time that year! 4 years on and it still hasnt produced! As for another that is in decomposing wood matter semi old growth mixed with revegitated gums the have been producing for 6 or 7 years as far as when I found them with no signs of slowing I make sure I leave enough always to grow large enoudh to spread spores naturally and I am now experemnting with making spore prints to dump in water and spray back over the many patches that inhabit this parkland and forest reserve We must respect these sites and treat them as very fragile ecosystems I only found these sites in the space of about 8 to 10 years, Who knows how long they were here before I came along Just To Cornfirm these spots all contain varieties of subs! Oh Yeah I have 8.2 inches Limp! Nothing to do with how many grams I can tollerate I just like to brag

I totaly agree on the subject of Shroom Dreams They seem to always come @ this time of year. We have made dinner plans for this evening

    Laurelia novae-zealandiae

Greetings Friends Hello onz, How are you going with your hunt for this plant my Friend? Torsten, Your comments on the oil profile & species being perfect for the Tasmanian climate grabbed my attention! I was unaware of the rather interesting alkaloid makeup of this plant So many thanks going your way my Friend I would be interested in giving these plants a shot down here in tassie! So if anyone finds themselves in a position to access some quality seed & or cuttings I would be extremely thankfull for a parcel in the post I would of course supply payment or trade, which ever is preffered
