As far as the harmine/harmaline hydrochloride crystalization thing goes, I dont have hard data to say just HOW effective it is. What I do know is thats its harmaline hydrochloride dihydrate and harmine hydrochloride dihydrate that are formed by crystalization from water. Pure harmine hydrochloride dihydrate is freely soluble in hot water, soluble in 40 parts water at room temp, less soluble in cold water. Pure harmaline hydrochloride dihydrate is moderatly soluble in room temp water, and less so in cold water. I have heard (but have no proof) that excess salt decreased the solubility further, especially at low temps. Harmine hydrochloride dihydrate is about 74.54% harmine freebase. harmaline hydrochloride dihydrate is about 74.72% harmaline freebase. Both alkaloids in freebase form are slightly soluble in water.

Each state has its own noxious weed list, so a plant native to Texas, or Georgia, or wherever could be a class A noxious weed in Washington. Any Class A noxious weed in the state of Wa: 1st offense within five years $ 750 2nd and any subsequent offense $1,000 USD of course. Thats why I had to check the state weed list. Now I just have to figure out how to keep my cat out of the Datura patch. Shes already half insane and hyper-agressive (she draws blood when happy and specifically targets major veins and arteries when mad, I dont want her tripping! !)

You have to use excess, because you probably wont know just how much H2S is there to start with and if there is no excess not only will it go ultra slow but a reverse reaction will occur putting H2S BACK IN the gas. TLV (Threshhold Limit Value) for H2S is 10 ppm in air, get it below that and it won't be toxic and will only stink a little.

eccles, you should have mentioned some of that in the first post. Is it possible that you could point us in the direction of the bioassays with and without MAOIs? Things like strychnine, cyanide, aconitine, etc. were originally classified as poisons because someone just tested them and the person that watched them die wrote it down. As for this species there isn't much info that I could find out there on the web. The best I found was tryptamines and histaminic alkaloids. Many histaminic alkaloids are allergenic, so smoking a alkaloidal extract could end up feeling like a hundred pissed off bees stung the inside of your lungs, or then again maby not- The question you should ask yourself is are you the one that wants to find out? I definatly wouldn't combine an extract of this with MAOIs!!!

But its more like: 6NaOH (aq) + H2S -> Na2S + 2H2O + 4NaOH You need a little excess NaOH to keep the NaS from decomposing in a reverse reaction. Then you need more excess in order for the reaction to work faster and more completely. Its a simple reaction but setting up the equiptment might be out of most peoples league. Either you would have to have the gass recirculate through the scrubbing solution many, many times, or you would have to circulate it VERY slowly through many. Then of course you would have to send it through a gass drying cartrage, test it for H2S, and recompress it into a clean container. All without blowing your self up or suffocating to death in an unconcious stupor. Its probably easier to make your own instead of trying to purify the poison out of commercial stuff. Ok, I fixed a few errors, put more templates on each page, and put in an extra large plain template that is 25% longer and 25% wider than the large one. As for the zip locks not fitting in the small ones, I originally intended the small ones to be for more sturdy seeds that would not need a zip lock as long as they were to be planted soon after arrival. In fact I made these templates so I wouldn't use up so many zip lock baggies (I mainly trade seeds on Gardenweb.com and most of them use paper packets rather than zip locks anyway so I dont really feel bad about doing it when trading with them.)

Encryption programs which the government does not have the decryption program for are illegal to use on the internet within US borders (I'm not sure if you can use them on your own computer or not, papa didn't raise no lawyer.) Big brother has to be able to read anything you write in an email. It gives them a sense of power, security, or something.

"i thought mescaline is structurally an amphetamine" No, mescaline is a phenethylamine and amphetamines are a very specific group of phenethylamine derivatives which mescaline does not belong to.( specifically amphetamines are derivatives of beta-phenylisopropylamine aka. amphetamine[phenethylamine with a methyl group alpha to the amine group]) Note: Your definatly right about one thing, MAOIs + amphetamines = BAD. There have been clinically documented deaths due to that combo, even within the standard pharmacutical dosage range for both drugs. (and yes at least one death was from MAOIs + ephedrine) Anyway, I have heard good and bad reports about chemically pure synthetic mescaline + MAOIs, and I have heard more bad reports than good ones about mescaline bearing mixed cactus alkaloids + MAOIs. In general I think it would be a good idea to steer clear of these combinations, it could possibly kill you or really mess you up (in the negative sense). And remember, if for some reason you do decide to experiment with mixing MAOIs in with all kinds of stuff keep well written notes so when you die the coroner can write a complete report including plant names that we can use as new data points for our discussions.

Is there a low growing, ground-cover type nightshade with bright red berries (about 6mm long, 5mm wide). If I remember right, the leaves have one large oval leaf segment and a smaller oval leaf segment on either side. The reason I ask is when I was growing up I was always told that plant was nightshade, and the other day I was helping my grandma move and I grabbed a handful of berries, then when I got home (300 miles away) I discovered the plant did not conform to the pictures of normal nightshade and now I'm not sure exactly what I have. Can anyone help me on this one? Thanks.

NaGHB) is pretty soluble in water, it should be moderatly soluble in alcohol, and is insoluble in the more non-polar solvents (like ether or naphtha). The acid form (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) is very soluble in water, pretty darn soluble in alcohol, probably moderatly soluble in ether, and probably almost insoluble in naphtha, butane, etc. In any case, purifying it out of some sort of plant matter would be pretty hard.

(assuming 1drop=0.05ml and product density about 0.9) That seems to be a pretty good yield, epecially for such a small scale extraction. But seriously, butane extraction seems a little dangerous and impractical if you plan to scale up the quantity. Have you thought about extracting with 95% alcohol or 91%+ isopropanol, filtering, and then adding about three or four times its volume of 'round about 2% aqueous salt solution to seperate the oil? The product would be less pure, and the yield of pure thujone probably would not increase much, but it would be cheaper, and you'd be FAR less likely to blow the roof of your house across town. Just a thought.
