When using DMSO (Dimethylsulfoxide) make sure to only use pharmaceutical grade DMSO, not the lab grade stuff (toxic). Also make sure that the skin you put it on is VERY clean, because it will carry any contaminants into your blood stream.

So aside from encouraging everyone to get virus scanners and/or petition our respective governments to pass legislation requiring internet browsers to have built in virus scanners there isnt much any of us can do? That sucks! With the war on terrorism frenzy in full swing why dont they declare computer viruses tools of domestic and international terrorism? That would probably be the one good thing to come out of this 'war on terrorism' nonsense.

I've got norton antivirus running, I got a good spyware scanner (the cookies are clean), my address book is empty, the only email program on my computer is in AOL and it would show a record of any outgoing emails, and the 'returned' emails showed the original full headders and they were clearly forged. I saved the last two and the IP address they originated from is different, so it cant be my IP address right? Did I miss anything? Have you considered using a synthetic hormone combo instead. Granted, this wont help now but it could make it easier in the future. Maby something like 0.1 ppm GA3, 0.2 ppm Benzylaminopurine, and 0.2 ppm IAA to activate the cytokin? Or maby replace IAA with 2-naphthoxyacetic acid for heat and light stability. And then maby give the final solution 0.005-0.01% potassium humate for those extra 'bios' (kind of hard to find in the pure form (you'd need pure stuff), but it does wonders for plants and I hear it works great for plant cell culture too. I make my own ammonium humate for plants, but making potassium humate for cell culture would require a bit more work.) The shelf life of all those ingredients is MUCH longer than coconut water. Its too bad sigma is where you were getting the coconut water, I searched through all my catalogs and thats the only one that had it listed! Do you have friends in any biotech places or universities around there? If they have some you could probably talk them out of it, after all it is for a good cause. Good Luck

There is a specialty item out there that can help. Its a sprinkler triggered by a motion detector. It was invented to keep critters out, but it has gained a reputation as a theif deterent. If you go to extremes to keep theives out be careful, they fight back. I heard one story where someones watermelons were being stolen, so the gardener put up a sign 'danger one melon is poisoned' In the morning someone had changed it to 'danger two melons are poisoned!'. I think a dog is best, or you could do what shamen do- plant them in several secret locations DEEP in the wilderness. Personally I have a dog to keep the pepper poachers away (pepperspray too, for that sense of poetic justice). Whatever you do, dont set dangerous traps. Theives can have you sent you to jail for setting traps aimed at theives.

I'm getting ready to start my first serious long term pepper hybrid breeding program. I dreamed up a very promising intraspecies capsicum annuum hybrid, I got the parent seeds and am setting it up as one of two winter hybrid projects. I'm gonna propogate the hybrid by seed in order to produce a genetically stable new variety (yes I know hybrids change quite a bit in the first few generations.) What I want to know is how many generations am I looking at before the genetics of the thing stabilize to the point where seeds produce plants that would look like the parent? Would that be F6? F8? F10? MORE? I'm guessing (hopeing) it would be mostly stabilized by F8 but this is the first time I've ever attempted to make a new TRUE capsicum variety so I dont know. Usually when I make a hybrid its just for fun but this is the first one that (if it works) could make the world a better place for chile heads, so I NEED to establish genetic stability so it can be propogated by seed. Any thoughts? No I will not tell you what C. annuum varieties I'm crossing (hybridizers are by nature a very secretive lot, especially in capitalist cultures.)

Its kind of a wait and see thing, but I'm probably going to start selfing at F2 and keep it up until its completely stabilized into a single true breeding cultivar. Not just easier, faster too. I use pantyhose to self plants not tents, its much easier that way- you just get fewer selfed peppers. Every step of the way I'm gonna give each plant a serial number, take photos and notes, and keep the seed on file just in case I need to breed in some new blood at some point. I'll probably make deposits to my pollen bank too, but that only keeps for a year, maby two so it might not help all that much.
