How do you feel about advertising?

Just, if ads are implemented, be sure to very blatantly mention it. Between firefox, peerblock, and my modded Hosts I never see ads unless I explicitly allow them for a site (and some times not even then, lol) I only get ads on a few porn sites I made exceptions for. I've never even seen a single ad on facebook and supposedly its one of the worst? So, yeah... I'll make an exception for ads to load here if I'm told when there are ads

How do you feel about advertising?

Yeah, ad content can get strange at times. I was a member of a site once where the mere mention of drugs, including legal ones, even Heimia, resulted in an instant ban by a fanatical site owner. What turned the situation into an absolute absurdity was banners on the side advertizing Salvia divinorum and synthetic marijuana analogs, lol Ability for Torsten to choose the ads would probably be ideal, if at all possible. I've never even seen a web forum on a mobile device, but even on a desktop comp the side bars squish stuff over too much.

fda tries to stop cancer treatment

American journalism isnt that far different, sadly. Once, in the fall of 2003, I sobered up and was horrified by what I saw when I turned on the TV. It seemed so abhorrent and perverse that I assumed I must be in drug withdrawals! When TV was still filled with bottom feeding degenerate trash by spring I decided it was the american TV and not me. I havent watched TV since.

  6. What did I do? I swore at a cactus, calling it the triple damned bastard son of a blackrot infested cylindropuntia! ...So I have this bridgesii, one of my oldest, the freakball has always annoyed me. It grows quite slow. It sunburns like an irish girl. Its skinny. Its four times as susceptible to blackrot as the next most rot prone bridgesii I own. And the thing refuses to branch. And now its trying to split in half! Its been 40°C the last few days and I gave it high nitrogen ferts to try once more to get it to basally pup, but I've never had this happen to a Trich of any sort, what the hell. (on the up side, when its not covered in scars, it has a nice chiseled angular look to the ribs which is perhaps the only thing saving it from being culled, lol)

fda tries to stop cancer treatment

Am I the only one who is reflexively incredibly suspicious of lengthy articles in which every sentence is designed to induce an irrational emotional response intended to bias the reader? Very little information of any substance was said of the treatment in question. If the factual, verifiable, data can not be expected to convince someone journalists pander to emotionalism and divisiveness.

    Antioxidants for plants?

EGCG is an astringent tannic substance, such critters have an allelopathic effect in some plants and could damage tissues in high quantities. Tho some phenolics in low quantities (µM range) can induce a beneficial protective stress response, salicylic acid for example. I'd say if you test it have a control group, a mM range group, and a µM range group. Mix up the solutions fresh for each dosing especially if your water is basic.

    Money saving idea's

Money saving idea #1: I have a bunch of 5 gallon juice concentrate drums I use for holding water to water my garden (small enough to carry around to refill the watering can). In the winter I've filled them with water, capped them, and used them to build tables in the greenhouse. Day times stored heat is released at night. come spring they go back to work in the garden. I got the idea when I was a teen and I saw it done in a hippie school. They were great at money saving ideas. One time the horticulture teacher didnt want to put in overtime digging out an over sized parsley bush so he pointed the rastas at it and said "thats edible, and its ital mon" a ring of rastas formed around the parsley bush and they all just leaned forward and chewed. The bush vanished in a cloud of ganja smoke. Money saving idea #2: using rastafari as earth friendly weed whackers.
  11. Entering this thread I expected to see EG report on attempts to use it for inducing flowering in cacti.

Citrus Growers Manufacture Huge Amounts of DMT

Would beer be a good example for the analogs laws? Sprouted barley has traces of benzodiazapine chemical analogs. The drug (beer) as a whole causes sedation, reduces inhibitions, induces euphoria, etc. The law says anything containing a banned drug can be viewed as the banned drug in its pure form. So its the chemical analog with analogous pharmacological effects and thus subject to the analogs clause. And what, like 80 million liters of this designer pharmaceutical drug is sold to unsuspecting australians every year? If a news reporter did the story I'm sure they would calculate a dose as 1 mg and a street value of $20 per dose. Thats 1.6 trillion dollars worth of drugs!
  14. I use the old squishy computer. I just learn what plants I have and what they like When two look almost alike but like different conditions I separate them and group them with distinctive groups of plants that like similar conditions. I do use the colored tags thing for experimental plants, and I also have a bucket of old flint points I use to mark duplicates, etc. Colored marbles might be useful.
  15. I like the idea of us all becoming buddhist monks. In their monastic rules the absolute extreme, most intensive and feared, punishment is to make the offender stop wearing dresses, grow hair, and start having sex. They'll often even get a bit of help finding a job.
  16. A good thing. I agree the US never should have invaded to begin with, but they did and so a crumbling of the US installed dictatorship was inevitable. '30,000 soldiers fled, leaving behind tanks and firearms as just 800 fighters approached' Thats great news No longer being harassed or showered in gold dust by americans, the mercenaries in iraq are handing over rule to the people. So what if theyre 'religious fanatics' or 'backward extremists', its their fucking country, let them rule it. If the US wants to protect themselves from a backlash from the abused masses the US should profusely apologize, be generous with humanitarian aid, and openly respect the government iraq gives itself. 'we spilled a lot of blood over there, and lot of courageous Americans men and women gave their lives in that conflict' I'll never get elected after this But so what if americans died? It says 'courageous' as if thats an inherently good thing. I saw lots of 'courageous' kids who 'courageously' joined the military with the express purpose of "killing filthy ragheads" without breaking the law. Courage? Sure. Rapists are 'courageous' too. The courage I respected were the people who pointedly refused to start running around waving the flag saying 'support the troops' and instead questioned the wisdom in imperialism and revenge attacks against foes of questionable involvement. Those people had their windows, and some times their teeth, busted up for their honest courage. Theres no monument to them. Let people rule themselves. Be kind and friendly. Most of the world will like you just fine after a while.

    Prickly Lettuce's Sedating Qualities?

The latex (and leaves, presumably) is most potent when the flower buds are growing. It and virosa are good at making me drowsy. In late winter I use serriola as a vegetable, stuff grows like a weed here, even with those young tender plants I try to limit how much I eat so I dont get too drowsy. Its sedating but not all that distinctly anxiolytic IME, if I were you I'd also give Heimia herb smoke a try, if available, to cut the anxiety from quitting the other herb.
  18. I agree completely. Hell, something being hard can be a reason to try! Its fun to achieve the difficult. ...I just think its beneficial to know going in when something will be difficult.

Its exercise! What I find odd is that people pay good money to exercise in a gym when theres a whole (free) world outside. It does require advanced planning to haul home minerals bit by bit. The ability to just go and buy a cubic meter of whatever in the time it takes to take a shower gets people damned spoiled, frugality runs quite counter to that mindset. Just produce or haul in the crap you'll eventually need, little bit by little bit, and it accumulates to the requisite quantity eventually.
  20. Yes, this is actual hybridization. Read about the Triangle of U some time to see how the sexual equivalent of this type of crossing gave us mustard greens and rutabagas. I suspect the grafting & cell culture tactic would be difficult to do in ones kitchen. Even if the in vitro work was perfected you'd still need to grow hundreds or a thousand cacti to find the gem.

And if you do, start from seed and make your own soil. I've got a fuckton of cacti but I've hardly spent any money on them. Nearly all I've grown from seed and most those seeds were got in trades or as generous giveaways. I compost garden waste and tree duff to mix with my garden loam and basaltic sand I haul home from hikes four kilos at a time. I bring home all discarded plant pots I find. I make plant tags by cutting up other peoples soda cans and "writing" on them with an old ball point pen with no ink in. My only problem is that my house becomes a forest of dormant cacti in winter.

Strip clubs are much too expensive. Just arrange it with all your friends so you can all get together in someones house once a week and dance with the girls on one side and the guys on the other. And then tell me, so I can move to Oz

    Warning: Truecrypt

The not secure warning is meant as a long term one. The devs have stopped developing truecrypt and so no new security updates will come in the future. Theres no shortage of guesses as to why they stopped, but my gut says those guys spent a decade giving us a wonderfully high quality product, theyre tired of doing it, and they dont want to hand it over to others who might ruin it. So far theres no evidence it was compromised. 7.1a will probably last us a good long while as we wait for a equally good and safe replacement.
  24. By some quirk it was only last december I finally got hold of complete copies of pihkal and tihkal for the first time. I was solidly glued to them all the way through. I expect those to be classics that will benefit people for a good long time. The man certainly had a rare and wonderful philosophy. Funny, it was less than a week ago I got the urge to re-read pihkal
  25. I've heard the decomposers/frees up nutrients argument before. In those arguments the health of the human tends to be ignored. If mushrooms are frequently fruiting in indoor or greenhouse grows wont the spores eventually cause allergy, et al. in the gardener that habitually breathes them?
