Mimosa hostilis?
katu replied to Idon'tstudydinosaurs's question in Plant Identification (non-cactus)
M.hostilis isn't sensitive to touch, there are a few other members of the genus that are though. But yeah definitely an Acacia.sp -
Never had a chance to get involved myself watertrade but remembered it from when I was a lurker . Would love to see it up and running again! Was kind of waiting for an ok from admin or the mods in case they have suspended it indefinitely for reasons unbeknown to me. Don't want to step on any toes here. Like I said i'd be more than happy to offer up the first pack of seeds if it's ok?

So whatever happened to the free seed trading thread and is their any reason to not get it going again? I'd be happy to kick it off....

I actually don't mind A.mexicana(prickly poppy) but I can see what ph means by being a bit dark. The stuff grows everywhere I live. Man it is no fun to handle though. Appropiate common name that one . Have you tried Californian poppy(E.californica). I find a strong tea about an hour before bed works a treat, can leave you feeling a little groggy in the morning though if you have to much. It's not a bad smoking herb either. Good luck!

Remembering water cycles for wide variety of genera
katu replied to hostilis's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Mate I grow everything from tropicals to Mexican miniatures. I've got one of those white board calendars where I write down whats been fed and when. I also keep a book with the same kinda stuff for, well sometimes a monthly calendar doesn't cut it(plants with dormancies etc) The old memory's not what it used to be . -
Fire weed is not a Lactuca.sp, its Senecio.madagasascariensis, highly invasive opportunistic weed native to south Africa despite what the species name implies. It contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Causes liver damage, very toxic to live stock. Not so sure about the other two but if the latex is clear its not L.virosa. Can you post more/better pics?
-
Don't know about L.serriola but I've never been overly impressed with L.virosa. Gave up growin the crap some time back... Mild sedative effect not worth the body load for me personally(upset stomach)

So who's keen to get this happening again??

I agree bot, I imagine the people presenting at emergency wards have been taking significant quantities habitually for long periods. Either that or a stupid epic dose..

non-steroidal anti inflammatory drug. Analgesic, fever reducing or to a lesser extent anti-inflammatory. Non-narcotic. Aspirin and ibuprofen are two of the most common I can think of..

katu replied to T-trich's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Beautiful plants mate, I wonder what caused the plant in the 1st pic to pup like that? Is that normal? Have seen something similar from mechanical damage. Fucking awesome anyways pardon my french -
I thought it might be a Matucana.sp from the look of it,the madisoniorum is one of my favourite cactus. Cheers..

Cheers hostilis, do you know the genus names for one and three?
