Yeah, i really need to get back in the mode of doing some sort of focusing exercise. Ive got to consciously stop the world, stop the robotic action and reaction that so deviously permeates modern life. I can see in people's eyes, they are mesmerised by their own pathological story they keep telling themself in order to keep moving. They are mesmerised by the common mythology....explaining away with a billion facts and burying the truths. WE NEED TO STOP, WE NEED TO STOP BOMBARDING OURSELVES WITH FALSE INFORMATION. I see a metaphor, something like a vacuum cleaner trying suck my head into it......???.....exactly, it doesn't make sense does it? Ive used a fungicide called Banrot a few times (probably unnecessarily) and im wondering whether my cactus will retain any of chemical for long periods? I can't find a proper report about it, which probably means there's nothing to worry about.....but in relation to cactus.....does anyone know if they retain chemicals/toxins for an extended period? cheers, Phloom

Yeah, I did see that thread about the 'toxic' loph....Im dont really think that a plant will retain any chemical in dangerous amounts for extended periods ie. 6 month +. Banrot (a systemic fungicide) doesnt have a published withholding period as far as im aware (not on the packet or MSDS), i think because its intended use is for soil drenches on seedlings. For leafy plants i think it would be free from contaminants within 2-3 months as a guess, obviously depending on climate and water etc. but for cactus in not sure, any out there is good on their cactus biochem/botany? Teo im looking at you???

Hi there SS, I'm glad you've researched this stuff! It would seem that acacia maidenii is a highly variable plant re: genetics/tryptamine content. This is not an uncommon phenomena within the acacia genus, the taxonomy of many species is still being debated amongst the experts. What hope do we laypeople have then? I don't know about other people, but i think im pretty good at my plant ID, and i struggle with acacias. In SEQ there a heaps of plants that could easily be thought as A.obtusifolia or maidenii, but could really be A.melanoxylon, A.longissima, A.disparrima or some sort of Daviesia. How many people have tested some plant material which has come up positive or negative, only to post their findings under an incorrect taxa? Even if you find some patches of an active acacia....leave them alone....do you actually think you deserve them?? save a headache, get seed or plants and grow them. regards......

Are y'all aware of the native sandfly bush - Cassinia subtropica, its not uncommon in SEQ/NNSW and it has a very distinctive smell....you dont even need to crush the leaves sometimes (its that potent) to get a rich rainforest/weed/organic scent. I'll post again when i've got some plant material if.......anyone is interested in checking it out?

No worries ({E}), I totally agree with what you are saying, its good to have people close by to protect this fragile ecosystem. I realise this request is pointless until cultivated trees start to produce seed. To anyone who is holding onto some seed: - ive been working in bush reveg/nursery for a number of years now and ive got the setup to grow these babies. The only problem for me is that i probly live too far north for them to be successful in the ground here. So....if anyone has seed and isnt confident with germinating them, give them to me and i'll send you back some plants. Otherwise, to all who are active in the true protection of the environment at Mt Buffalo....big ups to ya!
