If I can summarise a bit? perhaps bring back some sort of semblance of the thread topic. From what I can glean, there are those who, in their endeavours are trying to go beyond and push the boundaries of commonly accepted notions of language and reality. Some of these people seem to project "messianic" visions of this and that in effort to try and promote change and drum up a sense of 'something big is goin on, lets push it!'. This comes in many forms and each person has their own slant on the way things are and the way they should be. Then there are skeptics, or those who have 'seen it all before' see this kind of perception as merely another stage in life? One that will be learnt through until they reach a "psychologically mature perspective" perhaps we could be so lucky with one such as Illegal Brain in our midst! I am reminded of that parable of "those who know don't talk" and visa versa. It shits me when intellectual one-ups get in the way of progress in a debate/conversation. Surely it is not so black and white, truth and falsity depend on the observer, yes? So what exactly do I think about those recieving transmissions from their 12th dimensional selves? Cant hurt to listen, im sure there is some kernal of truth. Failing that what works, works, right? I hope next time someone spouts some self-righteous messianic transmission from the n-th dimension they can at least get a laugh (perhaps even some serious consideration). I wonder if people out there are scared to hear this stuff either because a) its happened to them and they don't want to consider the ramifications or its seen as watering down the forum and taking focus away from REAL debate. maybe im addicted to symbols which tell me im right?

I think I understand what you getting at..... No I don't, I see El D expressing a need, which I resonate with. You allude to something in between 'teenage idealism' and disillusionment, like you've seen it all before. What is this 'third path'. Smugness? what happened to the goon stories?!! its degenerated quickly to emo/goth psychoanalysis. I reckon if your older than about 20-21 your definition of emo is outdated already. Nothing is so black and white (as the goth make-up) there are so many shades of grey. So many hybrids. I could start on the anime/cosplay kids? the geeky hip hoppers? hardcore hippies? feral neoroscientists? the privelidged private school ice addicts? When I was living with a bunch of bogan/skater types we had a convention called 'goon wednesday', which is a farce because there was goon everyday. If we had no money we'd loiter around town and the skate park and hassle younger more soft beings for 'donations to the goon fund'. San Bernardino is the definition of no self esteem if you ask me.

mmmm fully. the syntax of this debate is confusing, I suppose you also need to imput alot of philosophy and linguistics as well as biology and theology. It would be entirely possible that an omnipotent 'god' could create a universe with life and all yet remain altogether removed and uninvolved in the whole process. Meaning that for a truly conscious organism (humans) with our good intentions and efforts to come up with these facts and theories (that work) we could be in the same position. Suppose a 'god ' exists, life was created originally and all the diversity has emerged by 'itself' from this original divine spark. Then ID and evolution are both true. Doesnt give any clues about the actual intentions of this 'being'; that there is any purpose to existance. We could be merely a giant larva lamp for such an entity to observe for an eternity. Maybe the idea of god having thoughts or purpose is absurd in itself.

In Richard Dawkins book, "the blind watchmaker" he alludes to inorganic substances ie clay particles (and viruses?) displaying reproductive or semisentient behaviour. This is a long way from describing the process of the inorganic becoming organic, but he also puts forth a good point of our innate fallability to understand processes that can and do occur over geological timespans ie billions of years. I suppose its possible that without any tested evidence this impasse will remain unresoved? Perhaps life can be created from base materials in a lab, will it solve this debate. What I mean is that if we were created by god in 'his' image then should we not have the power to create life?

wow! yeah fully dude.....Ive read this whole thread about twice now. Its really got me thinking. Im thinking about language, about how we have agreed on these symbols we are using here; "faith", "truth", "reality", "reason" etc. I keep getting a message in lucid states; when I ask the big questions ie why?, how?, what next? is anyone there? the answer; "stop asking stupid questions". This doesn't mean stop asking questions at all, just realise that there are many lines of thought that just go in circles. Then there are ones that uncover new ground. Like this thread for example (of course this is subjective isnt it?). Its very difficult for a flatlander to imagine a cube; but not impossible. Maybe it will be easier if I concieve of one corner and you another etc etc; until it reveals itself fully. I suppose it comes back to story telling, if you don't like the story why do you keep telling it. A prophet named Banksy once said "Most people don't use their initiative, because no one told them to"

Well said Ajna. And I think this a very important statement Torsten. I myself struggle with belief vs reason, sometimes god complexes. I believe somehow that when we collectively as a race realise reality can be manipulated and even changed these two towers of thought can walk home together like lovers. The most profound states ive experienced have been from going out on a limb psychologically; I have been burnt too. Something is left with me though, intangible but definitely real (at this point). Dont despair about the skepticism.....i BELIEVE that in the end it will make your fantasy all the more real and incredible. After all computer games aren't much fun with the cheats IMO. "REFINEMENT"

interesting synchonicity that this is being discussed now, although my experience could be a subconsciously highlighted to me having read this. I think there are some (personally subjective) key points I would like to add; - free will must be conserved to some level. If this fails it all falls apart (I think). - the geometry of higher dimensions links with this, when ones imagination allows it. Be careful of self-servicing belief structures. - there are facts and there are theories, you use theories to find facts, some are stumbled upon. - Its bigger than you think. Test your imagination. - of course facts are made of language and all this is subject to change without notice ;P I suppose we are all telling the story, each story affects others. Skepticism/accurate observation keeps the story believable; stops it falling apart.
