    Aussie Mycology/Mushroom Supplies

Yeah I posted a link to AussieMushroomSupplies as they're pretty handy/convenient, I didn't order from them due to having to wait for shipping but noticed they had a good range of selection and good prices. Also comes in handy when trying to organize what you need for different parts/areas of the growing process. N yeah for sure take care with the Coco coir used, the 'Coco Peat Brick' was recommended to me by another user on these forums and it worked out well Cheers on the Verm tip, will look into that if I get into this hobby deeper In terms of teks it was a mashup, I used these threads a lot and modelled Frank's 12 steps with a few variations. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/19140341 https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17897163
  2. Hi guys quick guide for those looking to get into monotub grows to give you an idea of where to get supplies and what to look for. I went overboard in most areas though so you should be able to easily cut the cost by $100-$200. Especially if you have some of the items around the house already. Also please note I am not in Eastern states so had limited range of items/stockists to choose from (I also couldn't be fucked hunting around spending time to save a dime here and there) I did spore -> agar -> grain jars -> monotub CVG spawn Total was ~$501. Spore prints - stick to domestic and I've left a clue on how to attain them. Mason quart jars can be found at BigW/Woolies apparently (other ones work too). For your grains, can go to your local bulk health food store or otherwise, I just bought them from aussievetproducts with discount sihpping codes from ozbargan. Agar Containers can get from anywhere really, just get it under 150ml (75-100mL is prob sweet spot) and make sure it's PP5 (look at the bottom of the container where the triangle is and if there's a 5 its PP5 - means it can resist breaking during pressure cooking etc) Saunders Malt Extract, don't have to use this for Agar nutrients, can use milo (sports drink), dog food or whatever else. The 70L all set storage container from bunnings was closest I could find to a 60 quart monotub (general AMerican standard tub). It's a bit bigger than that so you can add more substrate if you want when spawning. I had a drill at home to use for holes in the monotubs, for the Still air box you can use a coffee can or so, heat it up on stove real hot then press it into the tub till it melts the plastic, may have to repeat few times if you didnt get the can hot enough. Take off the coffee can lid before heating. That's about it, you can hit up aquaponic/hydroponic stores for your coco coir, gypsum and vermicullite or just go bunnings but they sell it only in bulk. Pressure cooker got off ebay and it can cook up 10 quart jars at once otherwise any other cooker should do fine (hopefully 15psi) but may have to do multiple cycles to get all the grain jars done. Also came with bonus 6 regular quart mason jars which came in handy These links will be handy (shaman australis is especially handy for Aus specific mycology things - use the search function): http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=26449 http://aussimushroomsupplies.com/

    Looking for Milo, Millet, Sorghum.

Hi Fenris, See you pulled the trigger but for yourself or future peeps, check out Kakulas Sister (Fremantle and others) or Kakulas Brothers (Northbridge) as they sell bulk millet/sorghum/rye berries/wheat (I think they sell sorghum/milo) and other goodies where you can pack it in bags yourself and they are cheap. Otherwise I've had success with http://www.aussievetproducts.com.au/products/breeders-choice-sorghum, there's generally discount codes on OzBargain for these which gives like a $6.95 discount on shipping so brings it to about ~$20 or so for 5kg bag iirc
  4. Searched through here and Shroomery on Coir brands in Australia but couldn't find any definitive answers. This was the most insightful thread http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=33191&hl=coir stating that brunning coir blocks aren't so great/ideal and are hard to break up when pasteurizing/sterilizing with suggestion of using Richgro brand. Wondering what you guys have used succesfully for your CVG substrate. This is the best alternative I can see: http://www.petbarn.com.au/reptile/reptile-bedding-substrate/coco-fiber/kritters-krumble-bedding-fine-20-litres.html that fits the bill for coir. A lot of people advice to go for pet stores as there are no additives etc in the coir. Only thing is this product isn't in a brick but I'm not sure if that's really an issue. Read a comment talking about why coir was so contam resistant due to the high pressures it goes through when being presesd into bricks. Anyone able to share what coir products they've had success with?

    Ball Quart jars Victoria

In case others outside of Victoria are wondering, Woolworths and Big W are the only ones who sell the Ball Mason Jars (wide and regular Mouth in various sizes 16 oz to 32 oz and smaller). At my Big W the quart wide mouth 12 packs are $45 and $42 for regular mouth.

    Pressure Cookers

Got an old pressure cooker in the house and there isn't a setting for it or a gauge from what I can tell. How can I use this accurately or should I jsut up the temperature and cook for longer?

I see that's cool man, I've been trying to learn a bit of a Thai on the side whilst I'm here haha. It's fun interacting with the locals. Yeah that's the thing hey, I can definitely see many things being off the radar (on the internet) in a smaller/non-touristy town of Thailand. Even some of the info about things around Chiang Mai you gotta dig deep for. Yeah otherwise elephant camps could be good as well for the cubes, wouldnt hurt trying to ask the care takers or riders if they have elephant camps in Udon. Id assume there are a lot of rice paddies with water buffalos out there as well though? Wouldn't hurt to look through them, a lot of other hunters with exp in Thailand have also said there's no real issues with wading through farmers land as they don't raise an eyebrow really. I reckon that lake is a great idea though, especially if 30 or so buffalos were in the region recently and there's some good rain Good luck on the hunt! Interesting to note that the locals there know about it haha. I really wonder how many locals trip regularly. I'm here till 30 July then heading back to Perth. Hopefully b town will be booming when I get back, haven't had a successful sub hunt yet (only have gone down once though). Were you in Thailand till the 22nd?

Nice! What's it like there? Are you able to easily get by with English? Yeah it's been rather dry here as well a part from 2 days of decent rains starting last weekend then sparse rains since then. I found two specimen on a rice paddy field that had water bufallos (lucky find as I wasn't conciously looking for the right species)! Then I headed to the San Pa Tong water buffalo market where farmers meet every Saturday to auction off water bufallos in pens. I figured there would be a lot of shit in the pens and lo and behold I came across a decent cluster there (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21950411). It seems panaleous cyanescens are more commonly found on water buffalo shit whereas cubes are found more commonly on elephant shit ( https://www.reddit.com/r/Drugs/comments/1jqgxx/ive_been_mushroom_hunting_in_thailand_for_20/). I was consciously looking out for cubes and couldn't find any apart from some very small pins that were growing. It also seemed (and it makes sense) that the shrooms in this climate/lack of rain grew under shade or near the fenced pens which makes sense as it'd be less dry under the scorching sun. I went about mid day so it was easier to tell where shade would fall throughout the day (definitely suggest morning though if you're not a fan of the heat). Yeah ahaha when I was on the farmers rice paddy field he came up thinking wtf is this cunt doing (not really he was really friendly but he was checking up on me). I asked him bout hed kee kwai and showed him a shitty drawing of shrooms growing out of dung that I drew on my notepad. He said 'mee mai' which meant no food or something along those lines. I spent about an hour trawling through those fields and didnt notice any growing directly on the large blobs of shit but saw two randomly in some small-mid sized grass, I'd say thats more due to the lack of rain however.
