    Phone scams

Today I received a phone call from a scammer. Was out in the garden so it went to message, when I came in for a drink of water a bit later I checked the message as I heard the phone ring. The message was from 'Jason O'conner from the ATO stating that I have a huge debt and before a local policeman comes and arrests me (lol) I had better phone - 02 60642010 and make payment arrangements. I was instantly sus......... 1, because ima citizen now and have made sure I owe no one nothing (except Telstra hahahahaha) 2, because 'Jason O'conner had a thick Asian accent 3, because in the message my name nor the reason for the debt wasn't stated Being very familiar with government protocols and best practice I thought - hmmmmmmmmm Not being one to shy away from confrontation I rung the number and the same individual answered the phone - 'this is the Australian Tax office, how may I help you' I replied that I had received a message from them (him) which was fairly fucking disgraceful and he is to answer for the message and supply a reason for the debt........ Immediatly I was met with a barrage of insulting expletives, lol Very funny stuff. I hung up in his ear and strait away called the ATO on their switchboard number so I actually got a person not a machine, always search for the switchboard numbers of any government office, they tryn keep these numbers as hard to find as they are able but they are locatable with a bit of effort. I explain the situation to the receptionist and she explains to me that it is a scam. I ask what is the ATO doing about it and she says that the calls are coming from overseas and if I could inform as many people as I can (lol) She went on to explain that they are attempting to gather people's personal information etc...... So there you are, watch out for these fukkers. Though I loathe the ATO I loathe scammers more so I feel as many people should know as possible. I will ring the number daily from another line and use a hooter I have to deafen the fool on the other end. What fun.

    Mushroom ID (Far West NSW)

nice fat mushroom you have there. its a bolete, which is a polypore, a blueing bolete, not active and most probably non edible. if you slice it right through the cap and stem it will oxidise and turn blue.

Bunnings has had some Haworthia limifolia and some different attenuata lately, $5 each, nice n cheap, couple of different Gasteria as well. Ebay is my main source of Haworthia and Gasteria, Lithops and Conophytum. common ones are buy it nows, $6 - $11 ea The more special vars are mostly always auctions, pay anywhere between 100$ and 500$+ depending on the variety heres some sellers that are good Thelivingrock - the best Haworthia on eBay, most are grown from seed by the seller, some plants he sells are 10+ years old best plant packaging on eBay, adds extra plants if you spend a bit, a bit is usually over 500$, also gives free post if spending up big. IMH - cool seller, has a nice collection of plants, has given me free post often when I've spent much moola on his auctions Hamwor - good seller, has a nice collection also, adds a free plant occasionly, yet to wrangle free post outa him though usmobhere - regular seller on eBay - buy 8 plants n get free postage, well packed plants, often adds freebies if you spend a bit maton51 - some nice plants as well, sends quick, n packs plants well all these sellers offer combined post and charge for the cost of postage only. The only seller I've been able to buy privately from (not off eBay) is Thelivingrock, this is only after quite a while of buying plants from him through eBay, have attempted private buys from the other sellers listed above n have had no luck. if I lived in Vic or NSW or Qld where these sellers are I reckon it might be possible to meet them at succulent society shows n then go from there.........

  16. Cheers Horus, i can't wait till they grow up nice n big, n yes a huge thanks to Communacacian for germinating and growing n spreading these wonderful trees around!! The creek has been right off a few times this winter Micromegas. how the creek looks when its running 'normally' how the creek looks when we've he'd some good rain for a few days
  17. Its a very nice area, 'high rainfall' for SA gotta like hills here and longish winters, not much frost which is nice, one or two mornings it can get to 0, and rearely gets to 40 degrees during summer, lotsa mid 30's and thunder storms that bring welcomed summer rains. once was a large cattle farm, the bit we've got was subdivided in the 80's. the property was fairly run down when we got here 4 years ago, lotsa rubbish, was over stocked n the cows had eaten everything down to nothing. though the acacias may form a bit of a mono culture they should stop erosion and encourage more bird and animal life. theres 2 species of acacia that grow wild here already plus quite a few introduced types that were planted 20ish years ago that are nice n big now. may get some more to plant out some other areas as time goes on, next big thing though is to start planting gums and understory natives in a large section that we havnt fenced for sheep, massive hill that has some huge gums and is slowly rehabilitating its self . the tree wraps should last a number of years so I'll take them off the acacias and use them for the gums and other native plants when they are planted.
  18. have been busy over winter planting most of the acacia's that were in pots in the ground. was loosing some trees to pesky wabbits so went and bought some tree wraps that came with stakes. these are a obtusafolia/longifolia x, fast growers along this fence line it goes - confusa then courtii then acuminata, the 3 types alternate till the strainer post at the end, the courtii are staked. a mix of acuminata, obtusafolia, courtii and confusa to the left of the track same track from the opposite direction a mix of acuminata, obtusafolia, courtii and confusa in the foreground, acuminata, courtii and confusa on the opposite bank of the creek a bloke i pay to do the jobs i don't want to do on my farm dug that walking path in 5 hours..... stella effort 10 courtii in a grove to the right, the rest are wide and narrow leaf accuminata confusa to the right, the rest are wide and narrow leaf acuminata with a few odd vars at the end acuminata narrow across the creek along the fence line of the sheep paddocks, 8 willtipole sheep there in the far right of the pic, these are great sheep, really friendly n they shed their wool each summer so they don't need sheering courtii and acuminata on the right, mixed plantings of courtii, acuminata, concurrens, confusa and some obtusafolia x longifolia across the creek have staked all the courtii so they grow strait for a meter then they can weep as much as they want to obtusafolia been in the ground for 2 winters acuminata been in the ground for 2 winters maidenii been in the ground for 2 winters floribunda, 3 winters in the ground, these are very hardy plants, planted some more along this fence line this winter....... one planted last winter, they are super quick growers Phlebs have nearly hit to top of the greenhouse, plan to move them out in the next couple weeks, will have to stake them as they are a bit lanky another bunch of phlebs i got from Communicacian before winter, going to risk it n plant these ones in the ground on the levy bank of the dam, 45 degree slope so should be reasonable drainage, will prepare their holes with blue metal and a native potting mix before planting. n thats what a fair bit of work and 350+ acacia trees in the ground looks like, very exciting to watch them all growing, should be quite a sight in a few years.

  20. we like very much to hunt the mush, so much i thought i'd start a thread to post the pics of the fungi we find this season we - is me and olive, olive is a dog, a very nice dog that really enjoys her autumn and winter adventures fungi hunting, endless hours wandering through the bush and pine forests on the hunt. our pup last season with a nice sized Amanita muscaria and here she is with a couple of Psilocybe subaeruginosa, yawn fest she reckons neither of us like to eat most of the mushrooms we find, olive most probably doesn't care either way, i prefer to see them in their habitat, bit like a cray or a yabbie, much nicer still kicking and not on a dinner plate our pics are mostly taken with a phone or tablet, got a big useless cannon pic taker thats more of a hinderance, we may get a nice little pocket sized number as the season draws near. Thing i like bout taking pics on a tablet is you can see what you got, where as using a camera with a small screen on it often when the pics are uploaded onto a desktop they look like shit, all fuzzy and out of focus environmental conditions also play a major part in taking fungi pics, often its raining, misty, mountainous terrain etc, most i spend with a specimen or a patch is 5 mins then we move on, slr's aint my thing, happy snaps are were slowly learning the names of everything we find, each season we learn a little more, olive really doesn't give a shit about the mush and starts to whine if were in a spot for more than a few minutes, she also steps on mushrooms, she's in it for the walk, the sniff and the dead things we find along the way these 2 books are the main references we use in identification so why start a mush thread in march? we've had a bit of rain of late, few cold nights as well whilst working in the garden we've spied some early risers, these are species that come up every year in the garden, soon there will be many more Omphalotus nidiformis Chlorophyllum brunneum these i am not sure of, closest i figure may be a Pluteus sp or Pholiota sp am no expert so please don't reference this thread if your after accuracy, this is for pretty pictures, bit of silliness and for the celebration of our fungi friends most importantly - don't ever eat any fungus without several sources of conformation - that what you wish to eat is actually what you think it is things'll be a bit slow for a month and a bit, then it'll fire up as the rain and cold increases looking forward to big one.
