  1. I figured this would be the appropriate section to post these photos in. Over the previous Christmas holidays I spent a month on the coast and managed to get a lot of decent wildlife photos - well, I think they are decent lol. Most of these photos are from that period, though some are more recent, since being back at home.

I was going to post the photos, individually, here, but it was taking forever. So, I decided to just post a link to the thread I started in another forum. Once you click the link you will realise I am a reptile lover - I have three pythons and one elapid. They are my children lol.

    Here is the thread.

Hope you enjoy my photography :)

  2. I took a couple new photos this arvo :)

Now that my B.caapi is over 1ft tall I decided to plant it out into the ground, up against a fence in which it can spread across.

My little H.salicifolia has started flowering.

I now have a couple N.rustica seedlings showing through; pretty stoked that they have germinated.

    Enjoy

  3. Thought I would pop up some update photos and some photos of the new kids on the block B)

I'm not 100% sure what species this is, but it has a nice little flower.

    bVNtX1W.jpg

    Echinopsis Oxygona flower.

    n5nWrpP.jpg

Echinopsis huascha flower. Due to my camera settings I had to turn the vibrance all the way down to have clarity in the petals, which made the photo look pretty cool IMO.

    lLO9OIP.jpg

Acacia acuminata seedlings; the first one died, though four more have popped up. The second one to pop up is coming along nicely and is a bit over an inch tall now.

    FWmndPk.jpg

    Salvia splendens seedlings.

    Ui9FGQk.jpg

First catha seedling to germinate, it is about 1cm tall now. It looks a bit demented because I sprayed it with water and it has some beaded water between the leaves.

    FNBd048.jpg

California poppies coming along nicely, probably should thin them out a little bit.

    OtzWUAt.jpg

    Some more poppies coming along.

    YUfGCWZ.jpg

Finally had some luck with peganum harmala, a couple seedlings have popped up.

    p4hH0rG.jpg

The seedling in the middle is the only bat winged coral tree that I had success with, it was over an inch tall one week after being sowed. The coleus branch that fell off is coming along nicely as well.

The caapi and brugs are going strong, though the brugs has been attacked by insects.

One of the ipomoea cuttings have survived, and on the left is my newest member to the family :)

    VTUaKz6.jpg

Since getting my p.viridis I thought it had died, though recently it has shown new growth at the nodes.

    6HY6IqI.jpg

New growth, only about 1mm each.

    ilmsVTn.jpg

New leaves growing on my coffee plant.

    e86tjRL.jpg

My Acacia baileyana purpurea has taken off recently with lots of new purple growth.

    5eijrDi.jpg

Almost forgot, my newest growing adventure. I'm guessing they are just button mushrooms, but thought it would be cool to grow them.

Hope you guys enjoy the newest installment of photos from my garden

  4. Cheers Jox, yeah I probably should have waited a bit longer, though I dipped the cross sections in powdered sulfur and then let them sit for a couple hours before planting them.

  5. I noticed a garden full of either trichocereus spachiana or trichocereus schickendantzii across the road, while standing out the front of my friends place having a ciggie. I went back there today and the lady that lived there was nice enough to let me take a few cuttings. These are the three I chose. I grabbed a thicker one for potting up, and two thinner ones to be planted in the ground. The thicker one is about 60cm, while the thinner ones are about 70cm.

I've decided to call these two the Twin Towers.

    Haven't named this one.

My growing cactus collection. I'm getting some spineless opuntia from my friend soon :)

    VUqgI0R.jpg

The lemon mint has been flowering for the last month or so, so thought I'd take a couple photos of some fresher flowers.

  6. Cheers for the reply. The third one doesn't seem to become columnar, it acts very similar to the first two; it clumps, spreading horizontally. The largest head amongst the group was about 20cm high and 15cm wide. Apparently they have been growing there for a number of years and this is the first time I have noticed them, even though I have walked that way over 100 times lol.

  7. Hey everyone, I have a few cacti that I'm trying to identify. The first two have been growing in our front yard, since before I was born.

Before I got back into gardening they hadn't been watered for ages, causing a large clump to die off. This is the last living clump, with weekly watering it should hopefully pup with fury lol.

Only recent pup coming off of the clump.

These guys are right next to the first cactus.

The newest pup coming from the clump.

I came across a whole bunch of these growing on the sidewalk a few blocks from my house. I asked the owner if I could have one, so he let me cut off two sizable heads, this one being the biggest. I'm guessing echinopsis oxygona.

    VvQKGIi.jpg

Flower bud coming off the head, the flower stems grow to about 15cm, having beautiful white flowers with a pink tinge on the outer pedals.

    ETRegYb.jpg

And lastly, I came across a whole bunch of cactus growing in the front yard of a house across the road from my friends place. Going back tomorrow to ask If I can have a cutting. I'm guessing echinopsis schickendantzii or spachianus.

    Cheers,

  8. While watering my plants today I noticed something unexpected. I planted some peganum seeds over 6 weeks ago and haven't watered them for about three weeks thinking they wouldn't take. Lo and behold, one seedling has popped up. I guess it is true that they thrive when being abused. Hope it continues to grow and doesn't die.

    Here's the little fella

    rRMTsmD.jpg

And something else (unknown) that has seemed to pop up in there at the same time.

  9. Luckily our yard is filled will a whole bunch of crap that becomes useful in one way or another lol.

Yeah, my cigarette intake has risen recently, that is why I bought the seeds. Hopefully your friend has a greener thumb than I; I'm unsure if they will germinate as they have been in the tray for a couple weeks and the tray dried out a couple times early on.

I also thought pere at first, then after looking online I realised that I was wrong. They grow really quickly and looked like they would work as well as pere, and it also meant I didn't have to go out to buy anything, which is always a plus :)

  10. Cheers Ceres :)

The tent pegs that came with the greenhouse were very flimsy, though, luckily enough I have plenty of spare star droppers laying around, so I hammered some in as deep as possible and tied the the frame to them with wire and rope. The back of it is also up against the fence and a sizable tree is next to it, to work as a wind block. Saying that, it isn't all that windy around here.

Mum has had the same happen in the compost, that's why I decided to try giving it a go. Figured if they sprout in the compost then I shouldn't have too many problems myself.

I actually bought the lobelia seeds from SAB; I just checked the page and they have some in stock and it doesn't say they can't be shipped to NZL, hope that helps :) Didn't realise how small lobelia seeds are, probably the smallest seeds I've come across.
