    ID please, possible Panaeolus foenisecii??

Based on a black print, I'd be willing to eat the shroom I'm so sure it's Ant... unfortunately though, they don't taste great and do absolutely nothing interesting to your mind. ;)

Doesn't look like Foenisecii to me... (http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=10236) The mushroom in the pic looks like a Panaeolus Antillarum... black spore-print yeah? (http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=10186&view=findpost&p=90102) -- Eik.

LC instead of agar for clones?

Easy LC cloning.... Just use h202, since we're not dealing with spores. Requires: - Hydrogen Peroxide, 3% is the normal stuff, I use 50% but diluted before use. - Scalpel or cutting blade. - Containers for the LC and other stuff. 1. Make up your LC as per normal, then add 5ml of h202 per 150ml of water. 2. Pour a shallow dish of pure H202. 3. Cut your mushroom specimin down the stem and extract the healthy tissue inside with your scalpel or other tool. 4. Dip the piece you cut in the shallow dish of pure h202, just give it a quick coat. 5. Drop the now h202-treated piece of stem in the LC. Voila - LC cloning without contam issues! Agar + sealed petri-dishes are my preferred culture for long-term storage, but it involves a few more steps than an LC, plus LC's don't seem to contam as quickly/easily as agar (in my personal experience, which I admit is quite limited). - Just my 2c.

    A little sub story

That's incredibly awesome Naja, most hearty congratulations to you.

    Amanita muscaria

Amanitas (both deathcap and Fly Agaric) are ALL OVER the older streets of Camberwell (the ones with the 50+ yr old oaks). Check the side streets along Burke road, between Camberwell Junction and Toorak road, if you go 12-24hrs after some rains I gaurantee you won't be dissapointed. This is a a smaller immature specimen, from a patch of around 30-40 of various ages, I noticed them driving along the street. Once my agar arrives It'll be added to my culture-bank of wild strains, yay for Mycology!
  6. That looks very much like it, thanks Trich-Aura!
  7. This one has me stumped, I originally thought it was another Pan Antillarum until closer inspection showed a brown cap with a darkbrown/black margin and brown stem. Spore-print is a very distinct brown, similar to the caps shade of brown. Habitat was same type of compost trench (horsepoo/straw topped with soil) that I found the Antillarums in. Any ideas? None of my books have anything in them that matches.

Will this seed work as a substrate?

The seeds all look fine, the shell-grit may actually be a positive as oyster (and other) shells are primarily calcium-based and good for mushies. Give it a try and see how it goes, grain is cheap (as are spores/cultures).
  9. Hi Guys, Was just wondering if anyone knows about spore or culture banks within Australia? I'm aware of the awesome funkyfungus site, however there are a few "exotic" species I'm after which aren't sold there. Specifically I want to obtain the following species: - Argocybe aegerita (Black Poplar). - Flammulina velutipes (Enokitake). - Ganoderma Lucidum (Reishi). - Grifola frondosa (Maitake). - Morchella sp (Yellow or Black Morel, not fussed). If anyone knows where these species can be obtained either in spore or culture form (within Australia) please let me know. I'd also be interested in purchasing/trading these from any members willing to part with them.

    Little Brown Mushies

Found another species today.... any ideas? Habitat was a compost "trench" horse-poo and straw buried about 6" deep under a 2-3" potting-soil layer. Edit - Best guess is Panaeolus antillarum, anyone care to confirm/dispute?

    Little Brown Mushies

BM, pic of the gills for you - the print is light brown/grey coloured. Went on another hunt around the yard today and found 2 specimens of this large-capped white mushroom growing from along where my septic runoff goes (one was trampled to bits by my dogs) - I'm thinking Agaricus of some type ?

    Little Brown Mushies

Some shrooms growing out of the ground, I have no idea what they are, but I'm sure they aren't subs, possibly Gyms? Spore-print is a light-brown colour, no blueing whatsoever, nice Rhizomorphic Myc.

    Shaggy mane?

Had this come up after the wet weather in one of my compost piles, this pile had straw/horse-poo and pinechips in a pile and has been decomposing for about a month now (loss of bulk by about 50%). Think it's a shaggy mane - can anyone confirm? And what's the latin name for the species?

    Melbourne RBG meet?

I missed it Got to the station at 10:12, train was on time at 10:10 These things are annual or bi-annual right? Damnit, I had already sorted everything except for running a couple minutes late.

This doesn't look like a cube...

Yeah I'd already told him he didn't grow anything he was after, guy still has 6 or 7 different "patches" like the one above buried around his yard... if only one of them fruits an active shroom I think he'll be happy.
