  1. Allegros book, the Sacred Mushroom and the cross is obscure and hard to read unless you are a scholar and have a working concept of ancient linguistic models. The general notion of the book is that Christ is a metaphor for the mushroom! As I said it is obscure, however some of the translation are illuminating to say the least!

This book sounds interesting, but when I went back they were asking $75 for it which seems a bit much. Ajna how much did you pay for you hardcover copy?

I also found a book 'Botanical Latin' by William T Stearn, it looks pretty good, has anyone got this book?

  2. try aorund daylsefor as there are alot of pine forests and they can have some real beauties.

I take it you mean Daylesford? If so that's where I grew up, there's some really great spots around. many a time I've heard of people coming up to check out trentham falls.

  3. Another reason some people choose spachianus over pachanoi for grafting is for very slow growing globular specimens whose shape could be distorted from growing too fast. Grafting onto a spach isn't quite as fast growing as grafting onto a pach, but the grafted cactus will appear less 'bloated' and closer to it's truer form on the spach.

I've always wondered why people chose spach to graft onto, the guy I get most of my cacti off is always talking about grafting onto spach's. good to have that cleared up.

  4. In the 'burbs not only do you want to be looking in the parks but also woodchipped areas in peoples/bussiness's front yards and schools etc.,

I had no idea you could find them just about anywhere, I'm from the country so my plan for the season was to just go and visit my old classic spots in the country. This'll make for a lot more interesting season.

  5. Speaking of advertisement something that really gets to me, which I've only encountered since moving to the city, is people that drop advertisement in your mail box even though written on the front is 'addressed mail only' or 'no junk mail'. What, can't these people read?

  6. I went through a few second hand bookstores today, I got a book titled 'opium, a history' by martin booth & a book called 'hemp for health' by chris conrad.

I saw a few other goodies around too which looked kind of interesting.

If interested check out 'Carlton bookshop' on Swanston st & 'Book Affair' on Elgin st (both in Carlton)

John M Allegro's 'Sacred Mushroom and the Cross'

I saw this also, what's it about? is it worth grabbing?

    *edited to add which bookstores.

  7. I don't like going to cafe and paying $3.50 for a short black only to discover after they've brought it to me that the machine hasn't been cleaned in four years and all I can taste is burnt coffee oils.

I get really thingy about my coffee too.

One thing I've noticed that just gets to me is if I ask for a double shot late, and the person corrects me with 'strong late' then brings out a coffee that's been over extracted rather and a double late.

If you have a business that sells espresso coffee then you need to know how to make it and you need to know how to clean your machine properly.

  8. It's really good just to read a neutral report about tropane containing plats. Most of what I've read regarding people's experiences with these plants is really negative and 'don't do it' type stuff.

As it's on of the great shamanic plants (in my eyes anyway) I've waned to try it for some time, yet don't feel ready. I got my first brug plant about two weeks ago so maybe in a few years once it's matured I'll have an experience with tropanes too.

Oh, and great report really well written and legnthy too which is how a report should be. :)

  9. In my experience it is only 'experienced' or seasoned smokers who want bush. But these same people are generally the kind of people who limit their usage in other ways aswell, ie. frequency. It's normally the ex-stoners, who continue to smoke, but don't want to be hopeless addicts, that prefer bush. I am one of these people, I would prefer bush personally aswell.

But most 'stoners', people who just want to be baked, and out of it, 24/7, prefer hydro IME.

People who smoke for enlightenment, relaxation, or just for the love of it (read: most peeps on this forum) are the people who seek bush. The people who are looking to get 'whacked' want Hydro. And unfortunately most drug users fit into the 'get whacked' category in Sydney.

When I Smoked I was one of those 'get whacked' type stoners, I used marijuana as a real escapism tool. One of the main things I've noticed between living a smoking lifestyle and not smoking at all is that I'm really not very creative when I'm not smoking. Recently I've been wanting to start smoking occasionally, but the thought of smoking hydro again kinda scares me a bit.

I don't know much about the smoking scene in Melbourne because I haven't been there for all that long, but where I grew up (where I know where to get weed) it's pretty much all just hydro. Finding outdoor grown stuff seems to be really hard thing to find.

I think it's that there's a big market out there for hydro on account of the fact that people that want hydro usually want it everyday (to feed there addiction) and that people who want the occasional bit of outdoor grown stuff usually just grow that themselves and keep it either to themselves or there group of friends, I think it's very rare that people grow outdoor stuff as a money making scheme.

In my opinion pretty much all Marijuana grown to be 'sold' is done with hydroponics.
