thought id share a good pic of a cacti pupping from the root system when all the aeriols have been cut out. it was a loph grafted ontop of a geometrans that had the grafte removed. the base stock had no aeriols left and was left potted at the back of the garden. sometime later (6 months? 12 months? more?) it pupped so i dug it up for a look. red line shows where the cutting stops and the root systems starts. the new pup has come from way below where the cutting starts.

here is a pic of one of my seedlings that looks like it might be a verigated one. im going to leave it for a few more months before attempting to graft as i only graft to trichs and they work better when the seedlings are larger.

does anyone know what the cause of this is? could it just be damage to the growth tip/centre?

Im happy to change the date as Ill be sowing and grafting all year so if its ok with sir maybe we should reschedual and start again, and this time people get ready ahead of time. Let me know what you think.i have used up all my grafting stock. even cut off boring grafts to make more stock available. if we have to start again i cant be in it. only have a couple of seeds left too. we had a month or two notice the first time.
but we could extend the rules to allow peolpe to start late and finish late? say sow 4th april and graft 4th may and measure 4th may 08. then compare to our results for the 4th feb 08.
if we keep track of the dates people start then any 12month period should be ok.
pic of two unlabeled grafts. both have taken. both pupping madly

teonanacatl, whats up with that double headed one? is it one plant with a large pup or is it two seperate seedlings grafted onto the same stock? the photo makes it look like two seperate grafts pushing against each other.

here is my leading graft. cardona on pachanio in soil. two seedlings were grafted here. obviously only one of them got a good connection with the vascular ring.
more pics slowly goping up in my blog
sofar 14 grafts have taken out of about 30 or forty
only one of my peres grafts have shown signs of growing.

now have 14 successful grafts. here is updates of the leading two.

these two are my best two by far. all 4 are cardona if my labeling is correct. some other pics in my blog. both had 2 seedling grafted to them. one on each has taken off. the other two have sat dormant. have now cut the pup off the second one to graft.
hows everyone elses going?

i got a huge pachanoi to graft it on to if you want? will be the quickest way to grow it big quickly so that you might get some back before winter.

yeah guys dont be intimidated, im happy to pull out if it means more people will participate. As i said before the setup is for grafting and the comp is just an aside for me so no biggie if i miss ityeah i think everyone should pull out except me.
nah it would be no fun if there wasnt a serious comp. bring it on.
though i only have 11 pachanoi stocks and 7 peres that are ready for grafting atm. probably 6 more pach and 5 more peres that will be ready in a month.
just attempted to graft to 2 peres and 4 pach on sunday. not sure how many of them will take at this stage.
pic of most of my grafting stock:

it must be 20cm or more in diameter towards the bottom. fattest scop ive ever seen and it is only about 1.5m tall. was just wondering if there could be a juuls giant that looks like a scop or something. but its skin and aeriols definately looks like a scop. it has shrunk a bit in that pic as it is clearly never watered or fertilised where it is and its mid summer. was annoying to see how badly dehydrated it is towards the top.

that is farkin crazy. i think we know who the winner is going to be simply because with that number of entries you cant loose.
looks good.

I dont think this is likely to become a problem worthy of Today Tonight proportionsas it seems manufacturers (In oz at least) are washing there seeds void of most actives
and there is less contamination of product from straw ect!
i'm guessing you dont watch today tonight. i cant count the number of times they have done a story on two neighbors arguing about a tree. anything of equal or greater importance to falling leaves is top notch reporting for that current affairs "news" show.
but im glad u agree that it isnt an issue in oz therefore no need to report.

i can see the today tonight headline " supermarkets sell deadly poison to kids"
unless they realise it is all just a myth

overkill? no. i use a 250W metal halide and a 250W HPS together. others use 400W - that may be overkill.
