as suggested above definately increase slowly, ie weekly not daily. it can take a few days for a burn to show its full extent. i just moved some from under a 250hps to a few hrs sunlight and absolutely fried some of them. btw my cacti love the hps. they love hydro grafted hps even more pics march and july

just after other peoples experiences with indoor cacti growing. do you use hps, mh, fluoro? what wattage? what area does it cover? how close to the light are the cacti? etc etc also do you just grow them indoors over winter or all year round? its getting cold outside and am thinking of moving some cacti indoors.

for an idea of growth rate, the first pic (reposted below) was taken on first of jan 06 and the next pic was taken today.

just got this lotus sent in the mail a couple of days ago. i potted it and put it in this tub and the cut stems have developed a white mould or something. is this anything to worry about? anything i can do? also the mature leaves got a bit damaged in transport i think.

these ones are in full sun from 8am to about 2pm then are shaded. others i have are in full sun from 8am to about 4pm and are a bit brown on the fronts. (see pics below) the centre one (on the previous photo) i bought about 2 years ago i think. btw it is on a non trichocerus root stock. its a geometrans.....or whatever it is called. the two either side of it are pups off the mother grafted on trich pachanoi. they are about a year and a half old maybe. only the centre one has flowered. (about 15 times this season and a few last season) no seeds produced yet as i dont have any pollen to cross pollinate.

lophs on peres vs lophs on pedro's? do the peres produce better results? if so how much faster are they?

i have to post interstate some 1cm fresh cut pups and want to know of other peoples experiences and methods of posting to assure that the pups arrive safely. as they are so small and cut im worried of them shrivelling up to nothing. i was thinking of placing the cut surface onto a piece of fresh cut trichocerus? also is it legal to post? do i need to express post or will slow mail be ok?

yeah it spread to several different spots over his body a few years ago. (mainly in bone i think). reading all that realy made me think about my diet. He rarely eats anything green and drinks like a fish (alcohol causes zinc deficiency??)

my uncle has been loosing his fight against inoperable prostate for close to a decade now i think and is/almost out of options. if someone has a sufficient quantity of this cacti that could be used as a worthwhile attempt to help him he may be interested. ?

seriously! the cacti spines are barbed or hooked and extremely sharp. i had to cut the spine off the cacti to get away and now i canot pull it out of my finger. i have pulled really quite hard and it just wont come out. and bloody hurts! does anyone know if there is a trick to getting these ones out? is it barbed or just a single hook? it has gone through the skin and seems to be hooking into something below the skin.
