  1. Hey Guys, glad to hear some of them have finally arrived. I also got 2-3 letters back due to incomplete addresses but I´ll send those out again next week. As a surprise, I sent the Tr. tulhuayacensis seeds with every single letter that I sent. On top of the Pachanoi seeds! I only got those seeds 4-6 weeks ago, and I was not able to test them yet. And I wont stock it until I see germinations in my test containers or hear sth positive from you. Just in case those seeds have a shit germination rate, I just want to say in advance it does not represent what I sell in my shop. I test all my seeds before I sell them. So yeah, please test that Tr. tulhuayacensis seeds and let me know how it is. And apart from that I hope you´ll have fun growing them!
  2. Hi Stu, I am currently working on a way to pre-order and I will send out a newsletter the day I can start taking pre-orders. I will probably start a crowdfunding campaign within the next week or two to make sure I can get enough books printed. So yeah, please join my newsletter because that´s where I will star taking offers first. Thanks again for all your support guys. This is amazing. bye Eg

    Trichocereus "Pacharu" cutting to trade

This could very well be Trichocereus puquiensis. The one from the description, which is a lot closer to Tr. pachanoi than Tr. peruvianus or Tr. cuzcoensis.

    SAB personality test... dare!

INTJ. I feel like I´m seeing a pattern here.
  5. There is no mentioning of cactus ingestion or potency ANYWHERE in this book. This is a strictly botanical book and I´d be extremely surprised if this would be seen as anything but a cool book about plants. Which it is. I am a strictly ornamental cactus breeder and that´s stamped on everything that I do. And I really mean that. It´s about the San Pedro cactus and related species, but there is no mentioning of anything else. That´s just not me and I want everything I do to be perfectly family and legality friendly. Writring about ingestion and trying to claim ornamental use at the same time would be legal suicide. I grow and study plants. That said; I am not a legal expert for Australian book laws and cannot guarantee you that Australian authorities don´t go into full 1984 mode when they see a cactus, but I am fairly certain that there would be no legal basis for such an act of arbitrariness. But again, I wouldn´t understand why that would happen because it´s a book about plants.

    PMing gone retarded.?

Yes, same here. It probably affects the whole forum. Maybe has to do with changed email settings on the server, changed ssl encryption, .php version, stuff like that.
  7. Hi guys, just a short status update because of the printed edition of my book! The printed run will probably be 1000 books, but I will give away a part of those to shops that help me raising the costs of the printing. So the number of available books is actually lower. No idea how many I´ll have, but I try my best to send a copy to everyone who replies to my launch email on my email list. The day I´ll get the books, I´ll send out an email to my subscribers and will process orders on a first come first served basis. If you reply to my email within the first days, I am pretty sure you will get a copy. I am also working on a deal to get a larger number of my books to Australia at once, which would make the import process a lot easier. It´s possible I´ll start a crowdfunding campaign in order to print a few hundred books more if there aren´t enough books for anyone who wants one. But I´ll keep you updated! So yeah, check out my launch page! I put in a lot of work to make the book and the page look nice and I´ll do everything to make this book look awesome. It will roughly have 220 all-color pages and between 200-400 pics! I haven´t counted them yet because I still get new ones every day. http://trichocereus.net/trichocereus-the-san-pedro-group/

    7 trichs to ponder over

Hey mate, The first one is a Trichocereus bridgesii. There are types like this though they are atypical. 2 and 3 are Tr. peruvianus. Are they both from the same lot? 3 could have some cuzco genetics in it, bit only slightly. 4 is a Trichocereus bridgesii type too. Maybe hybrid but definitely bridgesii somewhere. 5 and 6 are some kind of Peruvianus and the 7 has some bridgesii genetics in it too.
  9. Hi Guys, lets use this thread as an archive thread for pics of Trichocereus lookalikes. Those are the links that Trout posted earlier today but i think we should enclude em here as well as they look very similar to Trichs! Please feel free to add pics of cacti that someone could mistake for a Trichocereus species in here! Another one that people sometimes mistakenly label as Trichocereus is Stenocereus Griseus. I once bought a huge one on ebay that was labeled Trichocereus Peruvianus. Stenocereus (Ritterocereus) Griseus http://www.columnar-cacti.org/stenocereus/s_griseus.jpg

    Please help! too much cacti

Hi Hebrew, keep your chin up. I know what it means to let go of things or beloved plants. I know it hurts, but never forget: Some doors are closed for a reason. Life goes on and on and on...and we need to let go of some things in order to make place for something else. Something better sometimes. Life is crazy and the great times can happen when we least expect it. One bad thing can turn into sth great on the long term. Wishing you lot´s of luck, no matter where your life leads you!
  11. Yeah you know, let it grow for a while. This doesn´t have to be decided today. A Candicans doesn´t nearly get as big as a Terscheckii, so just observe and see how it goes. Personally, I think it has a different distance between the areoles, by far not as broad ribs as Tr. terscheckii and an overall untypical spination. Not speaking about the three pups, that are completely untypical for a Tr. terscheckii at that age too. So yeah, who knows. There are some types that are untypical, so just observe and keep us updated. As a general thing, I´d just recommend that you rather think of horse instead of Zebra when you hear hooves. That´s a saying that´s used in medicine. There are much more standard plants, that just happen to look a little bit untypical than hybrids. That can be caused by the environment, climate, watering cycle, daylight time, etc. That all influences a plant and often lead to weird plants. But that doesn´t make em a new species. But you never know and never say never. Time will tell...it´s a nice plant no matter what.

Definitely interested. Never grew Roses but those look really cool!
  13. Hey Guys, thanks a lot for the kind words. I will start accepting pre-orders as soon as I know how many copies I will get. The number is somwhere between 500 and 1000, but I am still working on the financing. I´ll let you guys know as soon as something noteworthy happens. I am currently asking all kinds of printers for quotes.

    ID this Cacti!!

Could be Trichocereus taquimbalensis. But yeah, still very small. If I´d have to bet, I´d put all on Taquimbalensis.
  15. Very cool, thank you both! The Matucana will most likely be the most stunning ones, simply because this type is awesome and very similar to Rosei 2.

    Hybrid Naming Conventions

Yes you can do both. If you want to name a plant, it´s important that it is unique enough to be recognizable. But it´s not a must if you just want to keep track of your collections. Ben from SS uses a certain code to label his finds. It´s BK10.367.23. The BK stands for Ben Kamm, the ten is the year and the rest are either GPS coordinates or just collection codes. Most German hybrid breeders only name the plants that are unique and good enough to deserve a name. But this system is mostly in use to keep track of the flowers.
  17. Hey guys, I changed the title because it seriously messed with my OCD and hurt my eyes. The name is Trichocereus terscheckii. Psylocaria, what you have there is a standard Trichocereus candicans. They are variable too and can look similar to Tr. terscheckii at an early age!
  18. Hey guys, this competition is slowly coming into the hot phase. Any updates would be appreciated. How are the other participants doing?

Shipping cactus cuts to the US. Legal?

Legally speaking you need a phytocertificate that guarantees that the plants are healthy and free of disease. And there are very few nurseries that are able to issue them. That only applies for CITES II plants. CITES I plants such as Ariocarpus, Astrophytum, Aztekium and similar genera need a CITES certification. And you need to apply for an export permit as well as an import permit from the country you send it to. Good Luck.

    Witches Broom (part 2)

Doesn´t look like Witches Broom to me. The plant looks way too healthy, and some of the pups are already too big to have it. A real witches broom infection starts a lot of pups over a very small piece of plant. It looks more like cancer than classic pupping. It´s definitely not a myth, but a large part of the suspected Witches Broom cases are just very well fed plants that like to pup a lot. Believe me, if you every come across an infected plant you´ll know. The plants are just sick and it often comes with nutrient defiency and not being cared about enough.

Columnar Flower Buds. Got some ? Post them here.

Can´t express how much joy I feel just by looking at that fruit!

    ....................................

That´s not a Tr. pachanoi but a Trichocereus puquiensis. Ironically, it´s really rare! The new taxonomy would simply call it a Pachanoi though.
