The caretaker's an empty bliss beyond this world

No worries Marcel! Certainly is something special eh. Very other-worldly. A soundtrack to the bardo methinks... Like the waiting music in the elevator at the end of existence.

    free cereus Peruvialis monstrose

I'll definitely jump in on this one - thanks heaps. I have a 'normal' cereus in the collection but have always been impressed by the patterns of the monstrose variety. PM'ing.

    First subs of 2012 season

I'll second that and add another spice in to the mix : the smell. In all my years (~10) of hunting around the world I've met loads of people who, after the obvious visual/touch identification then rely on smell for the final confirmation, myself included. If you've eaten a decent dose of fresh subs, that smell will never leave you (!) and be a constant hunting companion. Still... "if in doubt, throw it out" is a good mantra to repeat to yourself when starting out. Once you've got a good season or two under your belt you will wonder why it was ever difficult and start finding them all over the freakin' place. I usually find them in pine plantations / forest floor / field / landscaped areas etc. Pay attention to the trees they like to grow near too and other indicative species such as Stropharia Aurantica for those urban hunters.
  10. Yo rumple - cheers for the welcome message. Feelin' the love... :-) have been a long time lurker, so I feel like i've been a member for yonks, and in the beginning stages of a full blown cactus fanatic. What better time to get involved. I'm in the inner west of Melbourne, and getting pretty excited about the up-coming sub season too! Warmer months == cactus porn, colder == shroom porn! Ah yes, sorry myco, mini-hijack... back to the lophs
  11. I would be very keen to try my hand at raising some lophs from seed, will PM cheers.
