I travelled around South America years back (before i got the cacti collectors bug) and at that time i remember so many bus rides around the elevated parts of Ecuador / Peru / Bolivia and seeing SO MANY cacti clumps... mostly pach green and columnar and i remember thinking at the time that most of these would be of great cosmic interest in some way or another. Kinda glad that i wasn't a cacti nut then because i wouldn't have gotten any sleep on any bus rides and would've been asking for "toilet stops" every 50 metres. heh.

Will keep you SAB'ers in the loop of how it goes. If i get the "Oh that darned nuissance? you can have it" ... then i will just have to spread the love right here with cuttings to all! :-)

You've inspired me. I'm going to do exactly that, will head over and knock on the door for a wee chat. they might even want a few species that i have as a trade, because as far as I can see they have the Bridgesii and only two other species which i didn't have the time to identify. Edit: I'd say, there's almost zero bogan chance because the garden is so well maintained and the house is gorgeous. Unless bogans these days are into keeping manicured gardens. Shit maybe i'm a BOGAN IN DISGUISE!! ;-)

We've all gotta embrace the inner cacti nerd!!

Yep, I certainly got my cacti wood on! i'm kind of addicted to spying on peoples front yards while i walk the pooch... usually commending or disapproving of the space that people create. There's a really annoying trend where i live of all the new houses and their 'drought resistant' gardens. Basically this means, loads of Yuccas and Agaves (these are the only two species allowed it seems) amongst white pebbles... C'mon people, of all the possible things you could be growing in that space!! /rant PS. I have nothing against the aforementioned species, in fact, i grow them too, but variety is the spice of life, and why would you want your garden to look exactly like 539 other houses in the neighbourhood!

This is pornographic in content and nature! Surely, there should have been some sort of NSFW tag or something. I'm blushing right now.

No chlorophyll... what to do? (WARNING LARGE IMAGES)

RE: Etiolation... Disclaimer: I'm relatively recent in the cacti game - only a year under my belt. Just so i'm clear, cacti will etiolate when they do not get enough sunlight? They are 'craving' more of it so are stretching upwards to see what they can get ??? Does temperature play a role at all? Soil moisture? Many questions hath I. I have a few pachanoi which have decided to etiolate this season (some more than others) yet I have them in the sunniest part of the garden. Whereas, others are growing perfectly columnar. I'm a little confused. -
First time sower!!! Excited much???? :-) I spent all day going over as much info as i could re: soil mixtures and tricks, and now i have sowed: T. Pachanoi ~ 50-70 seeds T. Rosei ~ 15-20 seeds L. Williamsii ~ 100 seeds B. Caapi - 20 seeds almost all seeds from SAB'ers except for a bunch of Pachanoi. Soil mix mainly used: 1/3 perlite, 1/3 propagation sand 1/3 seed raising mixture Except for B. caapi, where i substituted the seed raising mixture for peat moss. All sieved using a sieve bought from bunnings. There really are a lot of large chunks (even in the propagation sand) which i didn't want in the mix. All steralized at 180degC for 25 minutes. I am currently soaking Acacia Floribunda seeds so and intend to plant them tonight.. I sincerely hope to see some results. But hey, that was heaps of fun ... can see myself becoming addicted to the whole germination side of things! much love SAB'ers

I think i'm going to buy this - Very interested to read Lesley's (La Gringa) interview since i have drank with her in ceremony in Peru! Softback copy on fishpond is very reasonably priced, but then again, everything on fishpond is cheap! http://www.fishpond.com.au/Books/Cactus-of-Mystery-Ross-Heaven/9781594774911 TP

Good evening my fellow shamans, Went for a great forest walk last Saturday and found some new magical patches. Many species about, but also found some of the largest (and tallest) Psilocybe Subaeruginosa specimens we have ever seen. Enough with the text, on to the photos; Meet Lentil the sausage dog, and faithful hunting companion in training to spot the interesting varieties. Xerula Gigaspora.. Not quite what we were after... THAT's more like it... Quite a few sizeable subs amongst the ubiquitous Mycena Sp. More hunting success.... and having a freakin' ball at the same time! :-) And now, the mother of all subs,.... Well the largest (by far) that i've ever seen. I used to be proud about finding subs the 'width of coke can' but these were bigger than the palms of our hands. I tried to get habitat shots, but they were growing in extremely tall grass and were pretty covered and didn't turn out well. Yes... that's a 50c coin next to that beast. The other subs seem dwarfed compared to this one, but they were all beasts in their own right before we found him.. He had a split cap due to the sheer size and was living with three others of around equal or slightly less size, but they had gone rotten. Have any other myco enthusiasts seen ones this big before? I'm curious. and some more finds that day: I said it before, and i'll say it again, I love a good day out in the forests. I've never seen super specimens (or a rich diversity of species for that matter) like this in wood chip mulch gardens, that's for sure. Not to mention the amount of fun the puppy has out there. Only had one run in with a leech, quickly diffused with a bit of salt and post traumatic puppy licks. I'll have to take my field guide out with me next time. Muchos abrazos amigos...happy hunting. TP & Lentil

Downsizing sale? Expression of interest/advice
trichpach replied to poisonshroom's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
oh and FWIW, i think you will have no trouble selling the Trichos - if not all here, at least on e(vil)-bay. The kids always want trichos. Until you have too many (like me!) -

I'd be keen for an iboga cutting (rooted pref!) how do they fare in temperate (Victorian) climates though?
