    A word of warning

If you have a Lophocereus scottii montstrose whatever you do don't EVER use Yates Folimat on it as an insecticide. I did yesterday as I figured it to be to late in the season for a good soak using a systemic and this was what I came home to today. You can tell where I managed to give it a good coating and where I only glanced it with the spray, coated areas have turned a sickly white/grey colour. Just hit it with some water out of a spraycan to see if it washes off but my hopes ain't high at the moment.

    A word of warning

One very knowledgible member of another forum suspects it was neither the active portion of the spray or a flash freezer burn but the drivegas used in the aerosol. According to him the light hydrocarbons (butane, propane or whatever is used) can be toxic to plants if they accumulate on the skin. Some straight quotes from the thread in that forum. .
  3. Indeed. Might at the same time ban good looking car's as it might just lure young drivers to go hooning as a way of showing their flash wheels off. Or why not ban revealing clothing as it just might tempt someone into rape. Or overseas telemarketers as another call from India during dinnertime might just drive me over the edge and and make me go postal.

    A word of warning

Could be that I got alittle to close for comfort with the nozzle, although others I sprayed was even closer and suffered no damage. Guess it either could be that the Lopho is more sencitive to cold or that it's sensitive to this perticular spray. Shame I don't have a can of compressed air handy or I'd try it on a small section of the healthy skin. Not like I could do it much more harm as it is. lol

    Intergeneric Breeding with Electricity

I tried something similar earlier this summer and cross polinated a Disocactus with an Echinopsis, it's resulted in a fruit that I'm still waiting on going ripe before I cut and check it for seeds. I'm rather confident that it wasn't a self pollination of the Disocactus as none of the flowers it had over summer other than the one I pollinated ended up producing a fruit.

What did you do to your cacti today?

Yep, you can see me. That TBM top right ended up in a "good" spot too The little white sticks are name labels, no way I could keep track of what they all are just by memory alone! Looks messy but haven't figured out a better way of doing it yet.

What did you do to your cacti today?

Not really done today but still, moved part of the collection into it's winter quarters = just further in under the awning to keep them out of the rain for the colder season. What can't be seen is some columnards and opuntias that are hiding underneath the white table plus another table with 30 odd cactii out of frame. It's got alittle out of hand to be honest

    Hello SAB!

They did have a few in the cage last time I was there, mainly the larger ones though that will set you back between 80 and 100. Think they are L. williamsii caespitosa as they all are offsetting like mad, I bought a smaller one last year that unfortunately has had a run in with spidermites lately and is looking alittle sorry for itself now. Used to have Turbi's but non to be found on the last trip, don't think that cage has any rain protection so I've been seeing them go downhill with rot over the last few months worth of rain. Likely all rotted and tossed now.

    Hello SAB!

I'm to darn close to that place for comfort, a mere 15 minute drive and I'm there, could explain why I go there atleast once a month to see if they have anything new Last visit was this very week and I managed to find some new ones I didn't previously have. They do have a fair variety, all cactii you will find at Bunnings in a square blue pot most likely originated from Hamiltons but they also have some rarer and larger stuff aswell.

    Hello SAB!

Just FYI, Hamiltons nowadays stock Pereskiopsis or atleast has had them for sale the last few times I've been out there. $2.50 for a rooted 4 inch cutting.
