I have a pretty expansive collection these days...thx to my wifes patience & some very generous SABers. I'm on the lookout for Amazon species preferably, but may be tempted by the right cactus . Top of the list : Diplopterys cabrerana (goes without saying) Alicia macrodisca Virola sp. Cactus & of course anything that may be on the "Deadly Awesome" list, that I may not know about yet. Now, keep in mind this plant does not like the cold .. The plant in photo #1 is the tallest at 40cm (that's mine)...but the average height is 20-25cm. These are a very delicate looking plant & unless you're North of the border, I would really want to "Express Post" this one...please keep this in mind when offering trades. PS - & to the person who gave me this seed...I still owe you bro, just say when .

we can get frosts here over winter...so they'll be staying in the hothouse during winter. I'll harden them off as soon as winter is done...they'll have a bit more size & be a bit more established by then.

these seedlings have to be hardened off yet...they are still in a shaded hothouse atm. next move will be into the greenhouse....70% shade & a drop from 90-95% to 60-70% humidity. I'll leave the ones I'm keeping in the hothouse, until after winter.

One would be the transmitting site & the other would be the receiving. Funnily enough I had a mate that worked on these sites & the Exmouth sites as well. Transmitting & receiving sites pushing out gigawatts of electricity...enough to boil your blood or even leave you sterile. So we've had HAARP in OZ for quite a while now...

I'd leave them & take the pups when they get to a decent size. While there's an established root system those pups will come on, if u go & chop them now they'll have to re-establish roots again (too much time wasted IMO).

Make sure u've got an extraction fan & plenty of ventilation. I've tried a 450watt HPS & they generate a lot of heat...it allowed me to keep watering my button cactus through the wet season & kept them in a dry low humidity atmosphere. I had to cover them with 50% shadecloth & keep the bulb at least 50-60cm away from them. It was probably the best growth they showed while under the HPS. Good luck Joxy.

When it's summer/hot I water once a day & don't have a tray under the pot. But it's been drizzling on & off for the last couple of weeks so they only get watered once every 2 or 3 days at the moment. You'll notice I've put a saucer under the 14" pot, but I put about 30mm of trench rock in the bottom. That way she won't be sitting directly in the water, in the tray. When they were in the 5" pots I tried putting a saucer under them & they didn't like having wet feet at all. So it seems they like it moist, but not wet.

Ok...it's been 5weeks & this girl has gone from 40cm to 57cm. Originally I potted up from a 5" to an 8" pot...well they've already outgrown these pots & 1 is now into a 14" pot. Roots were nice & white & busting to get out. I'm going to take a chance & put the other one in the ground. The weather is perfect, wet & humid. It's a bit of a gamble with winter, but I have a feeling we're going to get a wet winter this year...so roll the dice, I say .
