  1. thanks halif, i really appreciate the feedback and your thoughts. hearing this makes me feel that im getting closer to being able to achieve what i want with music
  2. thanks a lot marcel nothing professional or acedemic. bit of a 'jack of all crafts' if u will have dabbled in most forms of art at different times, but music has always been at my core it's my life-blood, sound is my religion haha i've played guitar in a hardrock/psych jam band, but it fell apart as soon as gigging and 'formalities' came into it so not a particularly noteworthy background, but hopefully more for the future, with at least a couple of self-released albums in the pipelines
  3. coupla new ideas i'm working with http://soundcloud.com/howlingcloud/acid-rain-remaster http://soundcloud.com/howlingcloud/innermost-outerspace
  4. this track is great man! really nice vibe, could easily pass as a long lost BoC b-side i reckon hehe
  5. wow got some great song-seeds there Marcel! would love to hear them grow speaking of nick cave, the first track almost sounds like his voice slowed down
  6. the overlay on the kaossilator is a good idea. still, bit fiddly i'm guessing and yeah you answered your own question - you can't separate the loops, once they are added to the bank that's it. which is a major limitation in taking the device from the toy category to the real instrument one. i find it useful as a "drum machine" as i've got nothing else to produce electronic beats with i've barely used it for recording, not because it doesnt sound good tho...i think it's because i feel dirty, how easy it is to play some epic sounding scales with no skill at all - but maybe i'd feel the same with computer generated scales? im not sure.. but i will admit that someone could make a track entirely out of the kaossilator and it could be amazing and most people would have no idea what you used, unless they are familiar with the device themselves... sounds like the KP would've been more up my alley great tune there, Stone vs Tepalom! Marcel heard it callingfor a sax solo - but i thought it begged for some vocals actually! i think some of the really nice chord changes made me think of a nick cave style thing
  7. hey psylo, i picked up a kaossilator off gumtree for pretty cheap it's the little yellow one though, not the pro version. just from my exp. i think u got the 2 main problems pegged there already - it's not impossible but somewhat difficult to play specific melodies, at least i think so but on the counter, you can set it to certain scales so that it's impossible to play a note that's out of key (yes, it almost feels like cheating) - and the onboard sounds are a bit limiting, but it is a good selection of 'trademark' synth sounds to experiment with i think the PRO can be used to effect external sounds, but mine cant, that would be great if it does the other prob i have with mine is that as u stack loops, they become fixed and u cant select to take this or that back out. again, the pro might give u more power here i do think the x-y pad thing is very intuitive, seems to be visually more 'logical' in the way you manipulate the sounds so easier than a regular synth in that way, just lacks the precision of true keys. i reckon they'd be great for your purposes, they certainly dont sound like a toy imo. if the price is right of coarse. i am a cheap ass, i dont know how much they are new but i'm almost certain i wouldnt pay it lol check on gumtree n stuff first.
  8. awesome man, i'm definately interested in circuit bending but havent got my hands dirty yet! got a few crappy sound making devices hanging round for the purposes of practice, but i haven't got to buying a soldering iron would be excellent skills to have, got a couple of instruments that could use some repairs too let us know how u got with it!

    Water Kefir

yeah i've been keen to get some water kefir for quite a while i've been making kefir with raw milk for years now, and i also make kombucha yogurt is much fussier with temps etc. the advantage of raw milk too is that it still contains the naturally occuring microbes...leave a bottle of cleo on the bench for a while and you get something much more like yogurt than a stinky rotten bottle of milk (as per pasteurised milk) i tried a kefir/kava mix, let ferment for a couple of days, and i tell you the taste was something to be reckoned with - i prob made it way too strong, but i couldn't get it down. if i had water kefir, i'd probable try it with bit of juiced sally anyone in oz with water kefir and would like to trade for milk kefir or kombucha, let me know

i should be there too, with son and lady in tow weather permitting though - if it gets crazy wet we'll have to give it a miss, gets too difficult with the youngen are you flying solo obtuse? we could possibly help with a lift, but be warned it involves sharing a 3hr trip with a 18mo let us know if you're in need, it'll be cosy but we'll fit looking forward to it

    x x

nice work man, got some of the most detailed and fleshed out compositions floating round here i reckon
  18. yep can totally tell there's "real" instruments and hands behind this one, def what lends to the rock/band vibe cool to hear what that mandala pad can do. i loved the intro bit too man way fuckin overdue to visit man. i;ve just got weekends to utilise atm really, how are weekends for you these days with work etc? can visit a few days in the week too but i'll have Echo with me - he severely limits the amount of constructive music making that could happen but would happily wonder round the garden all day ha. anyway got my sis bday this weekend, but after that we should set a date that works for us
  19. intense! agreed, would be insane if done by a live band
