Anyone into circuit bending?
ajna replied to mutant's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
Haven't heard of the Arion pedals but will look into them The apc sounds perfect for me to learn on I might get one of those, cheers. Housing the circuit bent instruments into new and interesting things is something I'm very keen to do. I'm actually planning to combine toy instruments and fx pedals into one console so it makes a kind of one-off unique instrument to use. I have been wondering what parts of other electronic devices are useful to scavenge from the dump? Ie, can any old volume knob be used as a potentiometer for non-volume effects? And how do I recognise useful parts like resistors n whatnot (btw please ignore any questions that are too broad, I'm an absolute electronics noob and understand I should be doing more of my own research) or are they all different in appearance... -

Anyone care for some mutant drum n bass?
ajna replied to Halif's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
nice work man i think i like the 2nd best, or maybe the other new track u didnt post here - wild violets. might just be my tastes but i reckon u should do like a chillout version of that one, with more sparse atmospheric percussion, i reckon it could nicely in that direction, i guess the intro kinda starts out like that...but yeah i dig the new sounds -

Zen Cat (a poem for my feline friend)
ajna replied to ajna's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
cheers guys Poppy looks a lot like Papaw actually huzzah for cat pics -
an ode to my magical cat and zen master Papaw she has just undergone surgery and recovering, but prognosis uncertain may she heal as well as she chills Zen Cat what's that, zen cat? last night you were tellin' me how it is and how it isn't whispers, from your eternal purr you said that my problems are all my own doing that i choose my illusions so no complainin' no more you showed me that the healin’ I was needin’ was in fact, to be released from such neediness as you ceased kneedin’ my lap and you said there was peace for those of feline-mind you showed me how to sit… breathe… and vibrate from inside. then you said “quit the bitchin’, be still, and lay back. all you really need is a half decent catnap.” but now it’s turned mornin' and you're the one cryin' at me, like you need too! ha! “those of feline mind” she says… take that, zen cat you may be the wiser by the light of the moon but by day you need me ‘cause I’m warm and have food! <3 below: Papaw and myself at the centre of the universe

hey mate, great work some really nice laidback vibes there i reckon they are all relatively close in terms of accessibility personally my favorite is Desert, and if i had to pick one it'd be that one because it's got a really nice progression/stroy going on. are you thinking in terms of submitting to jjj unearthed or something? i hate to say it, but i think vocals would make these tracks a lot more accessible/radio friendly. it's not neccessary at all, i like instrumental music and most of mine has no vocals either, but i think the human voice goes a long way in making music relatable for people. but yeah, that's not meant to sound like a point of criticism coz i like the tracks how they are, just a point to consider if reaching for a wider audience

yeah a prophet would be nice this is the DSI mopho also in this recording is a korg monotribe, and a casio keyboard through echo pedal and loop pedal we certainly have an interesting dynamic he brings the chaos element while i try and tame it into something musical haha and yeah it turned out having some pretty dark vibes...some ppl would prob think it sounds like child abuse but i assure you he was having fun -

New thread for the newer music of Tepalom
ajna replied to Halif's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
ok i will attempt to elaborate the vocals definately make it more accessible but i dont think that's it for me, coz i'm not really a vocals in electronic music kinda person either there's certainly a pop-ness to it but it's a bit dark and 80s, it's quite genre-less really which i like, it is what it is, it's not trying to be anything else it's a bit quirky, even a bit awkward, it's got character... the comment about differing from your other tracks was to insist that i dont think less of your other music but i like this one for different reasons i get a nice chilled vibe from most of your stuff, this one's a bit wierder, a bit more outsider synth pop sounding i like a lot of lo-fi/experimental/dodgy electronica perhaps if i share a couple of tracks, things that have a similar wierd x factor, it will better express my thoughts (and expose my odd taste...and perhaps negate my opinion of your music entirely ha) http://soundcloud.com/softwarelabel/carlos-giffoni-evidence http://soundcloud.com/selftitledmag/steve-hauschildt-constant http://soundcloud.com/gunsandsynths/false-memories -
New thread for the newer music of Tepalom
ajna replied to Halif's topic in Creativity, Spirituality & Philosophy
well u know what man, i think this is prob my fave track of yours! so i hope u do follow up i love how original and personalised the vocals have made your music it's got a real 80s vibe in the best of ways there's something i cant quite describe, but i feel differently about this track than your others, and nothing against any of your other music intended it feels like something i'd hear in some real obscure mixtape and wonder who the fuck was that and what year is that from lol but yeah nice work -
Organic filter tips for organic smokes
ajna replied to TrailBlazer's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
very nice i've been thinking for years someone needs to invent and market organic biodegradable filters i had imagined something could be made from bamboo or hemp, or even a multi-use carbon filter of somesort, but your way is much more DIY friendly. cotton is a great idea. i guess in theory u could use commercial cotton balls, but not as cool as GYO cotton -

i wouldn't say that i am specifically aiming to create soundscape music, although it is definately part of and an influence on what i am doing "achieving what i want with music" referred moreso to your comments about lulling the listener into a trance-like state, tuning in but without being too shapeless... it's that balance i'm trying to get right, i like quite minimal, atmospheric, hypnotic soundscapes with lots of subtlties, but want enough "songness" to keep the listener engaged and along for the journey...but then not so much action going on that it distracts from the subtle....ha i often struggle with whether to add beats or not! i know it really helps to propel the track and give a nice groove, but it definately changes the ambience... the insects probably give this one in particular a soundscape feel too. as i'm making most of this music late at night they create my usual 'backing track', and if im not making music im often tuning into their songs. it kind of adds to the latenight/star gazing vibe i think thanks, "through the hill" is particularly beautiful but all 3 good tracks i guess some artists that i find influencial for this kind of music are Klaus Shultze and co, Emeralds and associated side projects, Solar Fields, BoC, ... <3
