  1. its all supplemental isnt it. i mean, i could not live only on one food type yes you understand correctly horseii. the chips themselves use gallium nitride i believe, mostly, and produce pure uv, this, hits a resin layer that consists of phosphor, this converts the light to white. this phosphor containing resin will vary allot in it's % and will this affect the spectrum produced. keep in mind too, that all plants / fungi have different needs for light too, so this will mean different systems for different plant types etc. to a point. "but i also have to balance with daft things like affordability lol and personal viewing pleasures.." lol yup. true that. affordability is not issue now with china. those chips are only like 34x34xabout3mm and cost like $4-50 each, the driver though... well, take it from me if using over 100w led DONT BUY A WATERPROOF DRIVER!!!!! THEY OVERHEAT IN 800 HOURS. SO, FOR THE LIFETIME OF JUST ONE $4-50 LED (40,000-50.000 HOURS) WILL REQUIRE 32 DRIVERS (IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME) AT SOME $100.00 PLUS EACH. in short, if it has a waterproof rating, its garbage. i have lost many hundreds of dollars on these shit things!
  2. "6000-6500k LEDs" great for projectors... waste allot of money on green light though. again, no infrared, and little to no uv. not great. thats a waste of some 30% light your paying for. better, i think to use that wasted power (unless your power is free) on more reds including infrared. this will also have the benefit of your plants getting what they need as they start to have more needs (over seedling stage).
  3. "so if it gets nasty, film it. ;)" this is not legal and may cause more trouble. looking for mushrooms or trouble? "When I went to QLD on a cube hunting trip, I found I didn't have to trespass or ask at a farm at all, there were heaps growing along a road side cows had walked down. Massive fuckers, so easy to spot from the car. This then led me to a creek that was gov land (signage) n there were more cubes than I knew what to do with, I collected heaps of the big ones for making prints." i agree, not ever seen any reason to enter a persons land. i only look for em every 10 years or so, if i feel they are needed. think i know this place too great place for a relaxing BBQ
  4. a fact is, almost any light will be ok for a seedling. their needs will obviously change as they grow and age.
  5. cant find the one i wanted, was on aliexpres, who has some great new chips not found other places. " Wholesale 1W~100W Full Spectrum Led Plant Growth Light Chip Bead 380nm~840nm is one of the older types. have not tried it and think better of the other types.
  6. OK for a start, you would want some infrared light yes? you dont get that with normal types of "white light" from cfl and led. you will also want some uv doubt you will get that from most "white led's". i shall have a look soon and post what i feel would be OK.
  7. "White light contains all the colors," no shit, just saying. I build high end LED projectors (you know, the ones that don't yet exist...) and work with such tech's allot. the light output from the chips is UV only. it hits a phophor layer to give a balance of "white light", just saying.. the spikes of the white light produced are not even depending on the kalvin you bought. this is why they use multi-chips to get a broad mixture of spectrums.. fancy little chart, BUT i suggest you look into it a bit more, why? because "white" isnt "white". thats why. just saying...

    eBay/Gumtree finds

    thanks Olive.
  9. yup, the mixture of colors is what you want. broad spectrum. there are many to choose from. if all the dyes making up the chip look the same, keep looking in other words, avoid "warm white", "cold white", "daylight", "warm daylight", etc. you want more variance to the spectrum than just 500k.
  10. there is a nice little cave up top of tibro. keep walking till the end of the track and follow rock crevice downwards. take about 6 meters of rope and a way to climb it to get back to the top =) great place for a quiet smoke . in fact there are many caves there. Even in my climbing days, i didnt bother to get up that face. tibro can be intimidating without good footwear, or bear feet. crookneck even more so. it can be done without ropes like all the rest but most dont have the balls for it. including me these days... crookneck also has some awesome "organ pipes" to climb on the backside of it. good for those that love overhang climbs as i used to! Note- if you mob getting out that way, might wanna leave ya car unlocked so i can have a better look inside . nah seriously though, heaps of crooks up there better they dont smash ya car to rummage through your stuff. take it from me about this. i used to go up there evry weekend to climb years back, 8 outa 10 times my car would get brocken into, stuffing locks, paint, windows etc. one fine day i made my way up there with a nice hard bar, and waited in the bush for like, 4-5 hours for those C*nts, they drove past, in a shell of a car (no doors etc) slowed down, got me excited, then sped off.. im sure they didnt see me. how could they? i was well hidden. they were going to have a nice few days in the cold bush naked, fed water only till i felt they had learned their lesson. then released. the bastards...

    Acacia seed giveaway

    onya thunder that's honorable. Respect.
  15. yeah i hear that. i want it sooner too, but oh well.. at least it will be there for the next folks to live here in future. koolies, feel free to further refine it or play about with it. curious to know what you think of it, and what changes you make to it. we can only but wonder how it might evolve as others modify it to their tastes. i think that's a wonderful thing.
  16. yeah no worries mate. found myself with some spare time and had the phone handy.
  17. "unfortunately the fruit looks like turds hanging in a tree."LOL so, a bit like some of my acacia then I got one in the ground. and a few in pots. the one in the ground is from herbalistics and is about 2 1/2 years old i suspect (normal rootstock). cant be too sure of it's age though as life has been beyond crazy in that time. it has not yet flowered and i expect it to take many more years. sad really because my "breakfast champion" marmalade calls for them. Along with cinnamon, cardamon pods, kaffer lime leaf and pomello's. 2 cinnamon sticks, 2 cardamon pods, one lime leaf, and one fingerlime to each pomello -) if i recall it right. made the normal way. adding the fingerlime at the last minute to retain it's awesome texture. try it if you wish. i recon it's bloody good. well, as far as sugary crap goes. it's a treat really. hardly "food". Thanks Deadstar.
  18. nice Deadstar. thanks. how old is the finger lime?

    Entertain Me

following my childhood dream of becoming a jeweler. working only for myself. creating expensive works of art from precious metals and natural stones etc. to bring about a respect for the nature we are all part of here, together. to allow people to once again get in touch with the beauty of nature, in ways they don't take the time to stop to see and appreciate. Bringing the value and sparkle of the diamond to the timbers of the sacred trees =) for this i feel, is the most honorable way to gently force people to regain respect for what feeds them and looks after them. For I stand up for non-dirty industry, nature, animals, and people. this is my only goal IN this life.
  21. OK. Got off phone to AQIS. There is no new changes to any import laws as such. in a blanket sense. there may well be some changes made to the permitted plants / seeds lists though. you guys would have to check that as you consider buys what you seek. the system is as it was 12 months ago so to speak. either ebay folks are getting more concerned with whats aloud to be imported to Australia, and wishing to comply with our regulations better, or ebay is just learning how to become a bigger dick. In short, Nothing has changed concerning our plant / seed import laws. So, um... YAY
  22. why dont we all just buy stuff (and sell too) on etsy? ebay isnt the only online system for such. you can get some interesting plants on etsy. let ebay destroy itself... The more peole who start to sell on there will attract others obviously. shouldn't take too long to make etsy (or another of our choice) the new site for plants / seeds etc.? don't think they have issues with offshore shipping to AU. we still have the normal import laws to protect out crops and unique environment. unless this change is to stop all seed / plant imports (that would put another cork in our economy, so i would expect it to happen). Be good if you can get some answers Nut.

Uses of native saps and gums?

I think you will find oils from such plants will be illegal to posses. are you talking of using them as a post-tanning treatment? I use acacia madenii or longifolia for tanning. sometimes with some "snow in summer" tree leaves too. I'm yet to decide on the exact mixture i will call my own tanning blend =) there appears to be a difference in tanning thicker hides such as ring-tails compared to thin skin animals like brush-tails. this is an interesting area. I doubt i will bother with brushys anymore. the ringers though, hmmm NICE, thick tough and beautiful hides. All road-kills of course! I have not ever heard of using steamed out oils of gum trees for tanning purposes.
