    quick cuttings question

No probs, just curious - I'd never though about long term differences of tip vs mid cuttings. Thanks for clarifying.

    quick cuttings question

Are you saying that mid-section cuttings won't do this? That mid-section cuttings are less able to support long term growth than tips?

    quick cuttings question

A tip cut will sometimes etiolate as well. I.e., it will keep growing from the tip, but since it has no roots and is receiving much less energy, it will grow thinner. For this reason I prefer not to get tip cuts.

    CACTUS AUCTION!!!

Bump - not much of an auction with only two participants!
  11. The whole "driving a train whilst high" isn't really relevant anyway. There is no conflict between legalizing and controlling cannabis, but also prohibiting train driving whilst under its influence.

    Basal Pupping

All else being equal they will generally grow faster in the ground, which I'd imagine would induce more pups. If your interested in inducing pupping, perhaps try some coconut milk - there are a couple of threads about it on these forums. It supposedly contains something that induces pupping, as well as being highly nutritious for plants. From memory, it was suggested to put one can of regular coconut milk (400ml approx) into a 10L watering can. I did this to about a dozen pachanoi cuttings that were rooted but with no pups about 6 weeks ago, and since then they pretty much all have three pups on top of them. But of course, I can't rule out the possibility that this would have happened anyway.

    Today is my birthday

    Haha, very nice! Happy birthday!
  14. I also found that line to be especially cringe-worthy.
  15. I believe that drug use should be primarily a health issue, not a legal one. Its time that law enforcers are freed from this ridiculous burden so they can focus on real crime. Its time that the authorities stop wrecking the lives of innocent persons simply for ingesting certain compounds. Current drug policy is arbitrary, ineffectual and harmful, and its time for change!

    Ebay cactus moral dilemma

If I were the person selling it (and I sell cactus cuttings often), I would not have asked for the extra money. As much as it sucks to sell something and then lose a big chunk of the profit on postage, I would have just accepted that I had stuffed up by allowing this to happen. However, I would have also very much appreciated it if the buyer was kind enough to pay the extra postage, if they could afford to do so, and if it genuinely was an honest mistake. I would only raise the issue with the buyer if the postage was so high that selling the item to them actually ended up costing me money. But that's just what I think.

The end of YouTube and others

There's a petition opposing this if anyone is interested: http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet_b?cl=1390518320&v=11160 I was thinking about putting up a thread about it, but I haven't yet had the time to learn enough about it to make an informed choice. One thing I am sure of though is that free internet must be protected - it is possibly our most powerful tool against oppression! Here is some more info about the two laws (that I have yet to read myself): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protect_IP_Act

    Help me

Geez, that looks pretty nasty. Glad to hear that things are on the mend though! I had a similar thing when I had my appendix out. The nurse kept inserting the needle, missing the vein, and then reinserting it. This happened about 6 or 7 times, and now I have a mass of scar tissue in my left arm. It healed up fine, and you can only see it if I put pressure on the vein further up, but it hurt like hell at the time! Hopefully your left arm will heal up without any complications as well.

Not actually sure about the species of this one. However, I think that "fire engine red" is part of its name - you could try googling that and the word cactus or something?
