Rune Posted October 26, 2004 I am interested to find out what field guides for clear identification of edible and poisonous mushrooms are most recommended? I've just ordered the field guide to australian fungi, by bruce fuhrer, and realized I really should have checked here before rushing in :D

steersman Posted October 27, 2004 I would also like to know this
mesq Posted October 27, 2004 I have " Common Australian Fungi" by Tony Young... and "Psilocybe Mushrooms of the world" by Paul Stamets Since I am only interested really in two genera ie Panaeolus and Psilocybe (yeah maybe Agaricus but not really) I really dont need to know that much... Its much easier to identify what you DO want if you know what you are looking for...

Rev Posted October 28, 2004 Ill have all my fungi books in the car at EB4 so come see me if you want to peruse my library before buying really though that is one book that sits alongside GGMM and TMC as money well spent its a heavy tome with lots of keys n info and bits of humour as well The one by Bruce is OK Just Ok though i wasnt that impressed, nice photography but thats about all In fact i havent seen any decent Aussie myc books Katrina symes and neil boughers comes the closest but thats more expensive than aroras and i dont think nearly as valuable for research
