Adrian Posted January 17, 2002 Red Imported Fire Ants pose a potential threat to our environment and have already had significant environmental, health and economic impacts in other countries. This species has recently been found in Qeensland. So far there are two confirmed reports of the ant being found in Victoria. One detection was in the Dandenong area, amoungst pot plants from Brisbane, the other was in soil on a shipping container from the USA. Torsten Posted January 17, 2002 I am not looking forward to this pest. It is going to be a major problem for us gardeners in years to come and it is spreading real fast. Adrian Posted January 18, 2002 Okay, so its going to be a bit of a pain. This is'nt meant to be a reminder of our difficult struggle against nature. It is a reminder that we have a chance to do something about this early, by working with our natural resources. -Research biological controls and cures -medications and repell-ants -potential (good) uses of the sting (if any) I just think that news is pointless unless it can create outcomes.
