tricocerus from seed?

Recommended Posts

How difficult is growing san pedro from seed as opposed to from cuttings? I didn't even realise cacti produced seed, though i'd never really thought about it

Not too difficult but very slow compared to cuttings.

You have to mother them a bit more than a full grown cactus. Don't let the soil dry out as much as you would for an adult cactus and also keep them out of bright light/direct sunlight. Under 70-90% shade cloth in the sun and in a protected environment. Keep inside during the winter months if you live in cooler climates.

There are several sites on the web that go into detail on how to grow cacti from seed/cutting here are some links:

http://users.lycaeum.org/~iamklaus/grow.htm# A Cactus growers guide. http://www.shaman-australis.com/Website/Sh...ageframeset.htm (under Cultivation info) http://www.xs4all.nl/~knehnav/sanpedro.htm

http://www.peyote.net/culti2.htm

(note: peyote seedlings require quite similar conditions as Trichocereus seedling except soil conditions could be a bit different. More alkaline for peyote and more organic matter for tricho's)

That should keep you going.

Be patient with them. Good luck.

I am just uploading a new "cacti from seed" page in the cultivation section. It is only version one and will be updated and improved upon in the weeks and months to come.

uuhm, it's upto yr skill and the climate where you liv...

I got a nice pachanoi seedling, just ONE in 50 more seeds. a lot of "die-out" after germinations. Watering, light, temparature...etc, Especially Top-watering is not the best way for seedlings. Now I like to buy small cactus more than 1 year old. It's easy. I'm not enough patient ?
