Surely our government's track record of creating legislation and policy which reflects only the best interests of the general public speaks for itself. Surely these laws will never be abused and will only be actioned to track down pesky folk who oppose their our ideals and represent a danger to their financial the security of our nation. Pesky folk like terrorists... seditionists.... treasonists.... protesting minorities and individuals or anyone whose opinions contradict the interests of those who maintain the industrial military complex which kills and maims millions, those who destroy the environment for profit and those who cater to the rich while fucking over the poor. How utterly selfish of those tech giants not to want to "...live up to the moral obligations to protect the public".... I too question, "Why is it for some reason considered wrong or obnoxious that the hi-tech industry, the industry that affects so much of our lives, doesn't actually have that same level of obligation to help protect its own customers?"... especially when it is obvious this new legislation clearly reflects our government's level of obligation to protect it's own customers. The show of support and unity from the opposition offers a hope for the future of our nation. Perhaps this legislation hails a future where our political parties reconcile all their differences and we could do away with the necessity for ridiculous comedy elections.

Insequent Posted July 16, 2017 Awesome article, rahli. Thanks for posting. I guess it would be ironic if it weren't so tragic, but as Jeffries has pointed out, rather than making it easier to combat it, this kind of legislation better facilitates terrorism. And there's no doubt the politicians understand this. It's just a pity the majority of the general public do not.
