  1. Interesting, what age is "older"? A friend of mine in a place where they are legal ;) has one that is around 6 months old max. He was intending to put it indoors sooner or later under a 12/12 light regime as per instructions on other websites to get it flowering.
  2. Thank you very much! Can't wait to see how you flower them "naturally" i.e. outside!

Cut this off a mother plant today which was growing at a picnic area, this was not even a quarter of the plant! Grafted a pup to an Opuntia ficus-indica as well: Thanks!

  9. Hi there, Have just been doing some browsing of the net instead of working and happened across Erythroxylum subcapricornia. Now, there is no information on Google at all and nothing was obtained from doing a journal search. If you go to this website (http://www.anbg.gov.au/cpbr/databases/index.html) and do a search, however, you will find that they have 1 or 2 in a public garden and 21 or so in a private garden (it won't show up on map). I went there yesterday and secured what I THINK is the plant. However I cannot be sure as I am only in first year uni and have not had much practical experience identifying plants. I have emailed the Gardens requesting more information and will update the thread as I find out. Here is the picture of the sample which I think is the plant: Somehow I forgot to take a photo of the plant actually growing, so I will have to go back and get one. Oh, and I did up some cuttings from the plant, they were treated with hormone and put straight into those jiffy pellets within an hour or so of collection. I took the cuttings in an attempt to do my part in propagating such a curiosity. Initially, as I only have a few and do not want to rape the gardens for cuttings (there was no problem with these as the plant was about as tall as me), I will be giving these out to people who have any knowledge pertaining to the plant. After that, anyone is welcome to them so long as they share the plant :D Uploaded with ImageShack.us P.S. The leaves on most of these cuttings appear to be variegated! Interestingly, looking up the plant on the Australian Living Atlas website shows that there are verified populations in my home town of Rockhampton, Queensland (right on Tropic of Capricorn). Another thing I found interesting was that the picture for Erythroxylum australe was taken in Mount Archer National Park (virtually 1-2km from Rocky). The author is listed as Ethel Aardvark, which is obviously a pseudonym. If anyone has any info about the person who took the photo, I would love to get in touch! Thanks!

    Erythroxylum subcapricornia

Hey guys, So far the guy from the gardens basically said I had to bring a live sample for him to identify, but due to exams/assignments I did not have enough time to do so before I had to return home. This is probably a good thing, as there are populations around where I live. I checked out an E. ellipticum population, however the spot was underwater at the time. As soon as the floods go away (can't get into town as the road is several metres underwater), I can go and check them out. I purchased a Splityard Ck so I had more of an idea what to look for when I go out and I think it's safe to say that none of the plants I found were anywhere close, LOL! The leaves on the Splityard Ck are probably a half to a third of the size of the plants I was collecting and the distinctive light colour/venation/bark of the erythroxylums is now evident. I must say there is certainly no substitute for seeing a plant in person. I also had a chance to check out some other species thanks to a member on here, so it's looking good next time! The red berries at this time of year should make it easier too :D

Probably leave them for a day in a humidity dome then trim them off to below the black part. Photos would be helpful.

Windows XP won't start up; constantly reboots

http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download Yeah there is also a list of viruses that cause this error as well, but you won't know more until you read the minidump.

Windows XP won't start up; constantly reboots

From just having a Google most of the 0X0000008E errors are caused by faulty hardware such as RAM. They can also be caused by crucial windows files being messed up. The best way to get your data if you can't go into safe mode is to get a linux live CD like ubuntu, back up all the data. You should also be able to run a program called memtest and test your RAM. If you have your windows XP disc, put it in, boot from it and do a repair of windows. This should fix it. If you boot from the livecd, navigate to the minidump folder and post the dump (C:\Windows\Minidump\Minidump.dmp). This will tell you exactly what the error is (your computer makes this file before it reboots when there is a blue screen).

Press f8 when turning on the pc and select "disable automatic reboot ...", can't remember what it says. You should get an error message. Also try safe mode to save your data

    Micropropagation techniques

Thanks for the articles guys. I'm looking at getting into this to get some interesting plants passed around more in the community. The main problem I am having is what sort of containers are suitable. I contacted Cospack (found thru Darklight's advice and Google) but have received no response. Cheers!

    Rot - Semi Urgent

Hey guys, Basically I had my first instance of rot today. About a month ago I sent all my cacti from uni to home in a satchel and left them in there with it closed for most of the time, since it arrived. Most of the cacti are fine, but a psych0 tip has a bit of rot. I daresay all this rain and humidity in the enclosed bag was not a good move! I can upload a picture tomorrow but essentially there is some black liquid looking stuff around one areole that spreads around 10mm into the cactus. The flesh around the black stuff is very soft and when squeezed, liquid comes out. Now my question: How should I deal with this? I'm thinking that I might be able to save it as it's been sitting in a humid bag for a month (prime rot environment) and the whole cactus still has not been taken over (have heard stories of whole plants going in days). Should I plant it so the cactus starts growing again and can fight the infection? I have already dusted it with sulfur, but I fail to see how a topical treatment will help the interior which is also affected. Cheers!

    Raising A.Phlebophylla

Got 12 seeds sitting in just boiled water at the moment. Had to put them in the hot water as the pods and some of the seeds had white mould from being in a sealed bag. Going to plant in potting mix along with a few scoops of soil from under a Delonix regia. No idea if this will do anything, but it's the only legume accessible at the moment. Will update with how they go!
