    Netbooks (Mini Laptops)

my thumbs up for the lenovo s10-3! for the price, they're a great little unit. ebay link no probs with net surfing, reasonable res screen (for a 10")- no hdmi out though, build is solid and about 1kg, works fine with the 2gb upgrade, handles watching a dvd+ quality file, decent sound for the size, comes built with linux/win7 dual boot and very tweakable, keyboard is 95% size of normal so pretty good to use, touchpad is absolute shit -needs a usb mouse, battery life is approx 5-7hrs with 4hr recharge.

    manitou rolling tobacco

wow! i tried out this tobacco recently and have been supremely impressed! went for the new manitou line of additive free and organic grown (to E.U. and U.S. definitions) ~$30 for a 35g pouch of rolling type, they also have tailor-mades at a reasonable price too. first off, the 35g lasted a week instead of the normal 50g per week consumption, and that was without intentionally trying to cut down...just sorta happened. second point to note, was when it ran out and i had to revert to my usual tobacco brands (dr pat + champion ruby), i found my use went up again to 50g per week. What was even more interesting is the actual addictive element of it. With the regular tobacco it comparitively felt like chasing fullfilment of a craving (that never seems to be fulfilled) whereas the manitou feels like i'm smoking to have a tobacco experience (a subtle distinction but quite noticeable) the taste is pretty good too, a slight hint of chop-chop and a slight hint of that 'musty' type flavour (reminded me of the time swim tried to cure a few leaves) but overall easily palatable. its drier than regular baccy, as explained on the pack - no humectants due to mould risk. the real revelation came when i had to go back to regular tobacco - it was definitely tastier but overladen with distinctly horrible chemical taste and feel. it seems like regular baccy generates this dirty mouth feel and even my skin and body physiology felt icky. and i thought regular tailor-mades were horrid enough. only one week's trial of this manitou-organic has immediately made a convert of me, along with several other smokers i know as well. can't recommend it enough to any tobacco users out there!

    stomach bug, no more

that australian based specialist is my ex's dad, pretty sure he's still based in townsville. if you're interested, send me a pm and i'll ask if he's still researching along these lines and can recommend someone who can apply as treatment, or any current trials to participate in.

    Wild growing Physalis species

i found that cape gooseberry will stay as a smaller plant in full sun but in semi shade they get taller (6ft in my exp.) and a bit leggy till the branch topples over, at which point it'll root at the node and send up new shoots, very sprawly. fruit size, husk shape and taste qualities can vary quite a bit just off the one plant.

    how to propagate catha edulis

didn't want to start a new thread, so figured i'd post these pics of the various varieties of known strains here, i've supplied seasonal info as they tend to vary in colouration over the temperate year, especially the reds. red - (early spring) red - (mid summer) narrowleaf - (spring) planthelper - (spring) green - (mid summer) green - (early spring)

    Eaten again!

i'm in melbs too and find when any plant leaves are being eaten, either from the edges or middle of leaf, and there's no giveaways (i.e slime trails, caterpillars, pests or their droppings), I find it to generally be earwigs, with damage occurring to about 60cm high. or sometimes slaters if its <l0cm. check under any mulch for them, or try to catch them in the act, normally in the early evening. beer traps/ olive oil traps sometimes work, or my favourite is rolled up newspapers left lying around, which you then can chuck/compost after a week or so. i've seen them do it to all manner of vegies and herbs, incl various salvia sp.

  21. to the letter of the law customs - kava info and also gov. health dept. kava info people i know have had no issues bringing in the 2kg allowance from fiji, samoa and vanuatu. cant see why NZ, esp. with its large islander population, would be treated any differently.
