The bottom isn't soft at all. There are a total of 3 orange spots on the cactus, all above soil level.

Do you mean soil composition? Or to check for fungal infection? I'm planning on uprooting it to take a look after work today. It's growing in mostly pumice, with some coarse mineral sand, perlite, and a little bit of compost. Very little organic matter.

It was a nice gradual move into full sun, and all my other Astrophytum are doing well in terms of keeping from becoming sunburned. My heart sank when I saw it. Usually that color orange has led to some unfortunate losses... Should I try removing the affected areas?

Is that the pachypodium lamerei cristata specimen from Berkeley Botanical Garden?

And I'm not sure exactly what the deal wth these two is. Most definitely odd when compared to the rest of my astros

Picked this up last week. The lady I bought it from was convinced it was lophocereus schottii, but I see Pachanoi.

My ever growing astrophytum shelf

My investigations on it yielded confusing info. All cleared up now. One of the many many reasons I love this forum. Thank you :-)

A few more additions to the family Superkabuto Asterias Coahuilense x superkabuto Is coahuilense synonymous with myriostigma?

The cutting was bigger. Couldn't take it on the plane back unfortunately. After my brother-in-law mailed it back to my house it was in need of some surgery. :-/ I wanted to take a nice big branch, but I got the idea the lady who allowed me to take a bit really liked this plant in particular. Maybe I'll drive next time and offer a trade for a bit more. The blue color is what caught my eye.

I found this while on vacation a few months ago. I was out looking for a cactus nursery I had located via the internet, but when I arrived I learned it had closed down years earlier. My heart jumped when I noticed this beautiful plant along a fence line. I asked the woman who informed me about the nursery no longer being there if I could take a cutting, and she gave me the go ahead. Obviously a trich, I was wondering if anyone could further elaborate on what I've got. Thanks!

It is standard size wire fencing. They were particularly fat columns. Thanks for the help everyone!

It seemed to be peruvianoid to my not so well trained eye. There are some very long spines on the cutting I took. Some pushing 3 inches.

According to the grower who sent it to me, it is indeed. Ornatum x myriostigma. :-)

Olive, you've got me drooling... I hope to one day have some astrophytums as gorgeous as the collection you have.

My new addition to the garden looks a bit different than my monstrose pachanois. The spination is where I really notice it. Just wondering if anyone had an idea of what I've got here.
