What did you do to your cacti today?

    I took some photos...
  2. And here are some that remain in the container. I will be trying to graft some more as their minute root systems do not inspire confidence that they may survive the winter. Roots so tiny that, when grafting, it is was difficult to tell which end is the top and which the roots...
  3. Mine are going well. I'm going to try and winter some over and graft the others. Here are my first attempts at grafting these tiny cacti...

    Show off your freaks

I grew it from seed it's about 3. Could well be too much N but I've potted and treated it just like many others from the same batch and it's the only unusual one.

    Show off your freaks

The spots appear to be growing out from the tip, one can just be seen as a deformed patch in the bottom photo on the rib nearest to the camera. It's never been top watered.

    Could these be monstrose?...

Thanks guys, I'm thinking they are Di or Trichotomous...
  11. Being a newbie I am unsure if these are anything to get excited about. Grown from seed, the first pic shows two Echinocactus grusonii one appears to have 2 and a half heads, I am sure this was not caused by an injury. The second grew from a packet of seeds I received marked "mixed Loph" and seems unusually long with extra areoles across the top, I'm unsure if it is even a loph as it looks unlike the others that came up out of that packet. Are these crested or monstrose? If so, should I graft them or do anything special? Thanks! I really appreciate the expertise that gets shared on here.

How do you stop seedlings dying from fungus?

    I use Thiram anti-fungal spay.

It's caestiposae I'm sure. The first few flowers it put out over the last month looked more like this Then it grew the big one you refer to.

    Is booby cactus in oz?

Well I brought a pair from ebay only to have customs seize them at the border as the cities cert was filled in incorrectly by the seller as was the phytosanitary certificate. (Cities cert "non compliant and invalid" also only "suggests" one cactus, photosanitary cert lists one anti mite chemical not the two needed and item was dipped for 1 min instead of 2.5 min and is also "non compliant and invalid") I'm told by them that even if I were to somehow get new compliant certificates I could only have one of the cactus as only one was "suggested" on the original cities cert, not the two in the package. Funny how the cert is invalid but that part of it still counts... The upshot is that they are going to MURDER my cacti. Rather an expensive failure... Oh well, it saves me from having to make up tiny bra's for them.

    How to recognise a Cuzcoensis

I thought this might have been a Peruvianus but now I'm thinking Cuzcoensis. "+" sign visible from above The long central spines broaden out at the areole and wavy ribs The bleaching of the spines is also there but not well shown in the pics.
