Either way thanks MG : )

I haven't looked but since it keeps being brought up I'll finally cave in an make a facebook account.  Damn you all for making me side with the devil but it sounds like it may just be worth it.

I don't have a fb account either just sounded like there might be some good info there :)

  5. I don't think insects would be to blame if they are not sucking or eating the cactus, I wouldn't imagine just landing on them to cause transmission of the virus.

Hmmm seems odd for so many to be effected especially in such a short time frame, a bit of a mystery to me.

Have you had a look on that fb page Joshwaa suggested ? sounds like there is some good and interesting reading there

  6. Ah shit, do you smoke ciggies ? if so make sure to wash ya hands before handling the cacti just in case, cause it could be a possible source of the virus ? and if making cuts sterilize the blade between every cut.

At least it appears you don't have scale insect, im anti poison as much as possible so prob around every few months im out with the tooth brush scanning for the suckers.

I wouldn't go genocidal on all the insects but watch to see if any particular insect is causing any issue and deal with that how you may, I think it is wise to keep them in a sick bay and monitor the situation from there. Hopefully someone with greater knowledge will offer up some more helpful advice than my own.

try not to let it get ya down,  they are living things and life is always at the mercy of disease, sickness and death.

  7. Geez a lou that is spreading fast, here is a pic of one that got it pretty bad a couple years ago, I thought it was toast, all I did was turn the effected side away from the sun but seems to have recovered and seems stable tho was majorly stunted

  8. Oh and with ferts I reckon fish emulsion and occasionally a little seasol is good, tho I do not liquid fertilize mine no where near enough, I just lazily put some blood and bone around them and the ones in the ground get a little lime from time to time as well.

  9. I have done a bit of reading and youtubing and pretty excited to get into it, I have purchased this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10L-30L-Alcohol-Moonshine-Water-Copper-Home-Stainless-Distiller-DIY-Brewing-Kit/292121254848?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=591078724495&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

watched some vids on it and looks to work well and thought screw ill give it a go, this guy has a few vids about it

  10. Oh and with the sugar water mix, what ratios do you use ? how long approx. does it take to ferment before stilling and roughly what volumes of ethanol do you get from say 20ltr mix ? I know there is some variables like temp of fermenting etc but curious of a rough time scale and results of your experiments.

    Cheers crop : )

  11. Thanks crop that's some good info, That copper alembic still looks like a beauty.

I am gonna have a look on youtube a bit later to see if there is any vids of people using them and the results there getting, I do like the fact of knowing its made from safe quality materials.

  12. Thanks for the photo tips, I am quite technologically illiterate.

The only other sharxx x I have is (los banos x palarencis ) x sharxx blue, both hybrids are showing signs of being fairly Glaucus, both are growing in more shade then the rosei1 hybrid tho but yeh looking sweet none the less and pretty sure they shall be stunners.

  13. Yeh for sure here is a pic of a couple to show the differences within the seed batch, some seed produces near identical plants and other times there is a big variation, that's the beauty of growing from seed ya get to pick and choose : )

Here is a couple that are still young and have a fairly different look from each other r.thumb.jpg.cb378790adc00c3f31745a4e8e23ccb5.jpgrt_(2).thumb.jpg.97de7f08338d4afb6f21a2fd2018e6bc.jpgr_(2).thumb.jpg.ca810152eaa148e3131b908cfdb2a64e.jpgrt.thumb.jpg.598d9c95a1274792c88d4ecdf6de295c.jpg

The pics have been coming out side ways for me lately not sure why sorry about that.

I have some len x sharxx blue about the same age and they are defo showing signs of being big blue basterds and pretty excited to watch them grow, so many hybrids so much goodness.

There is so many but another stand out for me atm is yowie x peru john, there some beauties with distinct deep v notches and plumpness :drool2:

  14. Hey y'all just wondering if anyone into home brew and distillery is keen on sharing some experiences and tips with someone wanting to get into it.

I am thinking about getting a basic beer brewing kit and a small still like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5GAL-18L-Stainless-Alcohol-Essential-Oil-Water-Distiller-Moonshine-Still-Set/301934028679?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D52547%26meid%3D266afd7f91344ecbb2233e7b85d3c312%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D12%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D292829002489%26itm%3D301934028679&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Any feedback on this setup pros and cons and such ?

I haven't really done much research but if I made a mash or brew of about 20L consisting of 10% alcohol would my yield after distilling be 2L or is this optimistic and reality is far less rewarding ?

I will research further soon but thought ill ask here first from someone who may have experience, i have heard the first x amount of distilled alcohol should be thrown away ? any further details on this or other advice for safety or harm reduction will be greatly appreciated.

Any recipes and tips for mash or spirits and beer brewing etc very welcome and again appreciated, I have made some meads in the past and came out quite good but I have quite a liking for the spirits and am keen to save some dollars producing my own, Thanks in advance for any and all advice or help in the process : )

    Cheers

  15. You got the tricho bug hard core, beauty of a collection so far, sometimes it can feel you become a servant to them but they give so much back even just with there looks and presence , I feel there is a real energy to them just walking around looking at them or sitting by them.

A fair few years ago I was spending a bit to much on obtaining clones but now I try refrain from giving in to it cause It is basically never ending and I would be defined financially as poor lol and with a little patience awesome plants will come from seeds, way cheaper and pretty cool seeing them develop, feels very rewarding. I have got well over a thousand going maybe even 2 thousand or more I don't keep count lol, also including coloured flower hybrids, seems cool to get some columns going with different coloured flowers.

Defo gonna tame it down a bit cause its pretty much full scale for me atm  but some seeds I am keen to still get are mostly bridgesii x bridgesii, waiting to see some more of them available like ritta x jeans etc

Rosei1 x john is a nice hybrid I have some that are a couple years old and can see there gonna be super fat attractive beauties : )

The tbm looks a little hacked, make sure your blade is razor sharp (and sterilized) and try to make a clean slice, no hacking or sawing at it unless it is woody as heck and requires some more heavy duty equipment and oomph, not sure about the plastic for the grafts ? I use stocking or super glue, good aeration with stockings : )

Never heard this before, I am not sure of the validity of that claim, sounds dubious to me but I have no idea ?

Anyhow awesome collection and welcome to the tricho club : )

P.S sorry for any errors or stupidity, I am well into a bottle of jd cause I have gone off the rails a bit again lately lol

  16. i only have a couple of trees of both and they aren't very old but here is what I have noticed, the colubrina only has a small amount of red dots as shown here colu_(2).thumb.jpg.24fa4810a4247dba0a1f1c83e498d952.jpg

compared to  perigrina which seems to have more red dots peri_(2).thumb.jpg.fcde930c2de554ad54689efec532ec31.jpg

The trunks seem a bit different (remember I only have a couple to compare so not definitive in anyway) the trunk on the colubrina looks like this colu.thumb.jpg.abb42c6364b58b286dd4a30b8e6b4a96.jpg

and the perigrina seems to have more swirly patterns, white bands or strips across the trunk and more pointy/sharp bumbs or thorns shown here peri.thumb.jpg.0fd28059cefd1761deef743cd539c376.jpg

The colubrina hasn't produced seed yet but seed I have seen looks kinda squarish like this seeds-raw-cebil-anadenanthera-colubrina-seeds.thumb.png.ccab032231eeb1271f2ab8be42f37f3c.png

the perigrina has only produced one pod so far with three seeds only one properly formed and they appeared quite round more like this anadenanthera_peregrina_seeds.thumb.jpg.8b37636190e71847c1280fffe7b308e3.jpg

Only a small amount of specimens to make a comparison with so not really reliable info but just some things I have noticed between them so far.

The colubrina has no flowers to compare with but here is a pic of a perigrina flower anyway from one of the trees : )
