Possible for Trichocereus to cross with Cereus?

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Probably a stupid question here, but I was wondering if it is possible for a Cereus to cross with a Trichocereus?

I know that some other cactus genus can cross with other genuses but not sure if it can happen between these two.

The reason I ask is because I just stumbled upon this photo which looks freakishly similar to Trichocereus KK242, although it is clearly a Cereus. Is it possible that a Cereus species crossed with a Trich to form KK242, and if this is possible maybe that could account for the reported low potency of KK242?

Just a thought.

Cereus forbesii

I have heard of Trich X Cereus hybrids, but they seem rare.

I wonder if that could be one?

Is that a KK242? Its got real yellow spines - a great specimen as usual. I can see some significant similarity between those two.

But check this out. Compare these T. peruvianus [sic] from Basement Shaman with the cereus in the original post in this thread:
