Adrian Posted April 18, 2002 The following was sent to me several days ago in an attempt to identify some mushrooms suspected of being psilocybian: (I'm almost 100% that one lot is Psilocybe subaeuriginosa, judging by other people's shots in comparison to what's sitting on this plate in front of me. Is there another species that looks very very similar, but doesn't stain blue that you know of? Maybe they are Australiana? The caps are orange-brown coppery (slimy on the top), the gills are a sort of light grey, stems are light brown-yellow and did I mention they don't bruise blue.) If you think you recognise these mushrooms please reply with your ideas.
Al Posted April 18, 2002 Hi all, Does anyone have one of those psilocybin test kits? like from www.protest.force9.co.uk/psilotester.htm Does any species contain psilocin/psilocybin yet still be toxic (in the usual sense)? That would be a bummer. was thinking of ordering one. (so that i dont accidentally pick an illegal mushroom, of course). anyone have any experience with the like? sorry Adrian personally dont know about your mushies, but if they dont stain blue (as a result of psilocin oxidation) doesnt that rule them out? shit they sure look like subs too me though (being no expert). seeya'
Guest reville Posted April 19, 2002 sorry As far as subs goes i have no idea Some say there is only one species, others recognise several (splitters and clumpers) The only way to really tell would be to clone them and fruit them side by side so you could look at fruit bodies and microscopic details You would also do single spore isolations and try cross fertility between monokaryotic mycelium. beats me. Clone it anyway
Adrian Posted April 19, 2002 Woohooo! I mannaged to take some spore pictures at several hundred times magnification! I'll post them soon. If I get the nack of holding the camera straight on the monocular microscope lens I may just be able to offer my services.
