Many cacti flower when stressed....

My Lop hops usually flower when watered after a long period of drought.

Mine seems to flower after I give it a little fertilizer or lime and water. It shot out a flower about a week ago.

Being such watery things, cactii are quite influenced by the moon (or part of the same rhythm).

BTW the 14th of this month was a new moon.

Anyone else get flowers recently?

Age is also a factor.

I have also found that when the fruit come out, you have to collect them fairly quickly as they seem to dissapear. I would guess that ants take them.

Well after there rest periode they start flowering. I discovered that a cool rest periode boost the flowering. I live in Holland and in winter they stand sunny but not warm.

After the first few mistings the older ones suck them full of water and start flowering. I have not seen a Lopho flower within 4 years, have heard that it is possiblein the second year!
