Cyjack Posted September 16, 2005 Sorry - my point was that I found it strange that the emphasis of the story was that there was some type of triumph to celebrate... I mean - the title of the story quote: Snakes bite back at poison toads points towards the idea that snakes adapted themselves to overcome adversity. Even apothecary seemed to be suggesting the same - quote: at the rate that snakes breed, 70 years is a decent timespan for evolution to occur (in snakes). Dont forget the good Dr Ben Phillips - quote: It's nice to see that Nature's looking after itself wtf? Seems to me like there is some confusion here... As I believe we may have just concluded, its not that the snakes got wise, or that nature moved some mountains, its that a particular type of snake (the big mouthed ones) are now all most probably dead, and thus the remaining snakes in this species have 'evolved'... heh - just seemed strange to me. gerbil Posted September 16, 2005 darcy:The biggest predator of cane toads is pictured below. Yeah but hardly ever fatal IME. As a kid i remember belting them with all our might, completely flat, looking in bad shape with things hanging out their mouth, then you wait a while and they get up and hop off like nothing ever happened. Never tried to drive them though, i was a skinny little runt lol
