Greenhouse questions - how hot is too hot for tropical ethnos?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I recently constructed a 12 x 8 ft walk in poly-carb greenhouse to move my ethno collection into.

I've got the humidity up around 70 - 80% through the use of a misting system and a separate sprinkler system that soaks the gravel floor.

The problem now is the heat. Temps were pushing around 50 degrees until I covered the top and sides that were in direct sunlight in shade cloth.

The max temperature now is around 40 degrees on hot days.. is this still too hot for tropical ethnos like caapi, p.viridis, etc?

Trying to think of more ways to get the temps down. I can leave the roof vents open but then the humidity level drops to 50% or lower.

I've looked into temperature controlled vent openers, but most operate at 25 degrees. Interior temp doesn't drop below that so the vent would constantly be open.

Appreciate any advice
